The Dictator A combination of racial slurs, nudity, satirical humor, the actor of Borat and Bruno delivers another hilarious movie, a 8/10 for people who liked his previous movies.

![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6e/Battleship_Poster.jpg) Entertaining I guess? Have you ever watched a syfy movie that was so bad you couldn't turn it off for some strange reason? That's this, except with a massive budget.

Loved it, a must watch.

Battleship. don't bother watching that one.... just loop some Navel recruitment adverts in a row for same experience.
The Ward. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Might be just because of Amber Heard or a total lack of any expectation. + Show Spoiler +Expected a standard haunted hospital story but was treated to a darker Shutter Island like story Big one
The dark knight rises. I don't know... honestly. First time in IMAX for me, really liked the experience, but can't say if the movie itself is anywhere near the level of the previous one. need and want to re watch this one
Wild Bil Based on the trailer i expected a snatch/lock stock like movie but it was more a family drama that sucked me in.
Project X Watched this movie with house mates and friends, afterwards everybody wanted to go out and party. Perfect film for that purpose but don't think this should be watched as a Film.

![[image loading]](http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZrYWu_kc6Sw/T3enlyrF9qI/AAAAAAAABm8/6OC3AcfMV1Q/s1600/The-Raid-poster.jpg) The Raid: Redemption i'd give this 7/10 for its action. the fights are pretty decent, much better than so many american action films, and good for asian standards. i didn't watch this looking for a story (there was none), and got some good fun out of it. watch with some buddies or by yourself if you're looking for action and fight scenes.
![[image loading]](http://withoutwriting.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/donnie-yen-flash-point-poster2.jpg) Flash Point (dou fo sin) god damn donnie yen is such a badass. this was a rewatch, and i can never get enough of the fights in this film. donnie yen mixes a number of styles in his fights, using HK police force techniques, traditional chinese kung fu, judo, and brazilian jiujitsu. the end fight against collin chou (who uses mostly muay thai, maybe kickboxing too) was just superb. you could feel every punch, kick, elbow, knee, choke, throw. excellent choreography. 9.5/10 for its action sequences; the story is just there to make the fights happen. if you're looking to enjoy some brutal fight sequences different from jet li's traditional kung fu styles, but not shitty american fights, you need to see this film.
![[image loading]](http://www.craigerscinemacorner.com/Images/panslabyrinth_poster.jpg) Pan's Labyrinth (el laberinto del fauno) this film is one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite. it was really captivating, and really immerses you in the environment. i won't say much more about it to avoid spoilers. one of its reviewers commented that this film was "a fairytale for adults" or something like that. it's good. 9.7/10
![[image loading]](http://www.cinemablend.com/images/news/31034/New_Dark_Knight_Rises_Poster_Arrives_Online_1337636698.jpg) the dark knight rises watched this in imax, but i don't think i'll ever be watching in imax again. it was just ismply too fucking loud for my ears. anyway, i shared a lot of the same thoughts with those who posted in the DKR thread. 7/10 for me. just for reference, i'd put batman begins and the dark knight both at 9/10.
![[image loading]](http://imgs.abduzeedo.com/files/misc/paulo/batman/01.jpg) batman (1989) watched this out of curiosity and for comparison's sake. it was alright i guess. i recognize its significance, jack nicholson's performance, and tim burton's style. just not my thing. enjoyment rating: 4.5/10
![[image loading]](http://www.moviegoods.com/Assets/product_images/1020/194388.1020.A.jpg) batman returns again, watched this out of curiosity and the want for comparison, as well as to expand my film horizons. i didn't like this film at all. it was just.... boring. i ended up doing other stuff while attempting to watch it. enjoyment rating 2/10
the fighter (2010) decent film about a real life boxer and the issues he's dealing with. i thought it had really good acting from almost all of its cast. really shows the personal and family problems that many people out there face. 7.8/10 i liked it.
![[image loading]](http://fadedblue.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/imprint_movie_poster.jpg) imprint i actually saw this because of doctorhelvetica's horror blogs. i've heard a lot about takashi miike, and have seen one of his other films (chakushin ari [one missed call]) with some friends. imprint's story is a lot more disturbing and strange. decent horror, better than most others, although some would put it in its own category. it's not the 'cheap scares' genre where something jumps out at you, nor is it the asian style 'spooky atmosphere' type. the horror lies in discovering the characters' history and motivations. 7/10

Starship troopers has a 4th movie in the installation, and it definitely lives up to the name of the original film. Its 3D -animated, much like the ST: Roughneck Chronicle series, but with 2012 rendering instead. The plot is there for the sake of having a plot, but it's basically about 1hour of non-stop action (with occasional 3D titties and boobies :D). If you liked the first one, you'll love this one.

Drive I would rate it a very solid 8.5/10. Very classy movie, great performance by Ryan Gosling(not that he had to do too much, but some actors just couldn't pull off the quiet confidence he exuded), not exactly complicated but extremely well shot imo, and I just loved the feel of it. Is going in my top 25 list, if not close to the top ten. Nothing super amazing about it, just a really solid movie. If I can project a mere 50% of the coolness that Gosling does in this movie, I will have it made.

Watched all four Superman movies (not in one sitting). It was a neat experience, but not one I'd particularly recommend unless you're a fan of Superman. Pretty much all you need to know is in the first movie, anyways.
I'm not even going to complain about the plot. I knew what I was getting into, and built up my immunity to plotholes beforehand. All I'll say is that if you watch this and then watch something else, even the flimsiest storylines seem airtight.
The special effects were a lot better than I expected. I guess it was released about the same time as Star Wars, so I shouldn't be too surprised, but I'm always impressed at what they can pull off without CGI. It's like watching a string of magic tricks.
The series took a notable turn towards comedy with each subsequent movie. I understand this was kind of a sore point for fans at the time, but given how cheesy they are to modern eyes I don't think it really hurt the experience for me. The drama kind of disappeared at some point too, but it wasn't exactly the Dark Knight to begin with. Overall, it had its moments and was worth seeing just because it's the "classic" superhero series. I wouldn't watch it again, though.

I read the book a while ago and my dad recently taped the new one. I sort of wish I could take away my memories of the book while watching it, so that it could have made the movie a bit better. Switching between the two main characters was pretty poorly done and sudden, which could be confusing at times. Without knowing the thoughts going through the characters' heads, it lost a lot of its effect which the book managed to have. There was also an annoying sound playing in the background in some scenes, which was most likely done to make the environment they were in more real, but it just came on as annoying. Certain things were changed from the book, some of which I don't mind and some of which I do. + Show Spoiler +At the end where they're supposed to find Harriet in another country, instead the sister was Harriet. This made the phone hacking scene pointless and confusing for those who didn't read the book. My biggest shock in the movie came when the rape scene ocurred. It was supposed to bring out feelings of disgust and horror. I don't know how, but I think the book did that better than the movie, which surprised me a lot. The detail which made it effective in the book was lessened in the movie, and because it happened a lot faster in the movie, you couldn't dread seeing as it happened slowly, like you would when reading each word.
7/10.

@dragoontatoo - I absolutely loved this version, fincher fan, but I thought it was much much better then the Swedish, as I watched the Swedish again recently and found it very primitive and "made for TV" feel. I thought it was breathtaking, and rezsnor/ross's score was very well done. Though its very slow paced which I like every now and then, some might find it boring, SPOILERS that rape scene is ominous as prior the force bj has that vacuum in the background which wast a perfect mood. Also the cinematography literally was perfect and definetly shoulda ousted friggen Hugo's win, as that entire movie was friggen orange and blue... yuck.
I also just watched Not half as funny as talledega or anchorman, but Zach has a fantastic preformance. I think the fault of the film really comes from being too serious in parts much like what plagued semi-pro, and had too good of production like WalkHard, where scenes are so funny but everything looks so damn good that its distracting. Worth a rent if you like the two actors.

I watched VHS a couple days ago. Tons of people said how amazing this film was. I was so pumped since i havent watched a good horror movie in ages. Its not bad, its creative, but some stories are way better than the others. Two of the stories were plain bad in my opinion. If you want a cool horror movie, watch it, but dont expect it to be the most amazing thing ever.

Just saw God Bless America : It was pretty funny in its way (dark humour), and also a good depiction of today's society

Don't have internet in my apartment right now so I took the chance to watch a couple movies yesterday.
The second Sherlock Holmes.
![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/53/Sherlock_Holmes2Poster.jpg/215px-Sherlock_Holmes2Poster.jpg) I never saw it in theaters because the previews didn't look good. So it helped that I had pretty low expectations when I watched it yesterday, because it greatly exceeded what I expected. Appropriately funny, a fast enough pace that I didn't become skeptical of the verisimilitude, and exciting action sequences. I actually found it better than the original, much in part due to the fact that I found the villian to be more believable. 7 /10
The Fighter
![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/93/The_Fighter_Poster.jpg/220px-The_Fighter_Poster.jpg) Solid movie. I got hooked into it immediately. The pacing was good and the acting was great. Christian Bale did a really good job with his role. The fights were exciting, and I found myself on the edge of my seat during the climax. 8 /10

The Dark Knight Rises
Unbelievably disappointing, so little attention to detail, didn't really feel like Gotham from the other two, totally lacked the edge that The Dark Knight had, rehashed Batman Begins so much instead of moving forward, stupid, lame major conflict and climax. The + Show Spoiler +big reveal shunts Bane, the only really cool part of the movie, off to the side for a completely bland and basically unintroduced villain right before the climax who ends up doing nothing. Catwoman is one note and bland. The + Show Spoiler +climb to freedom/prison parts were mindbogglingly dumb and facile, how obvious was it the first time they climbed that they couldn't make the jump with the rope on cause there wasn't enough slack? That was supposed to be the big metaphor for fear holding him back? Come on. And that's his big character growth/hero's journey? The football scene was the one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Also it totally mails in how it looks at the most interesting part of Bane's plan + Show Spoiler +what's going on in the minds of the ordinary people of the city (who we barely see any representation of, where are all the millions of people, what are they doing?). It doesn't get to anything other than, oh I guess class warfare happens. Instead they focus on the most retreaded, archaic part of the whole thing, OMG a nuclear bomb. What is this, the 50's? 4/10

So basically you hated everything about the movie. I on the other hand loved the entire experience and would see it again if it didn't cost me $10 to see it in theaters. 8/10

Ahahahah. About Mesrine, there is no point... since it's a true story. Of course if you watched both movies thinking the plot was designed to highlight ideas or something, that must have been weird, because every single part of them are well documented facts about Jacques Mesrine's life, until his execution in Paris. So there is no point, just the story

Citizen Kane 10/10
I understand now why people say this classic is a must-watch; despite being a film from 1941, it still stands up to new films very easily; the camerawork is great, Orson Welles' acting is very believable and the way the story builds up to one of the most cathartic endings I've ever seen is mindblowing, that I couldn't avoid shedding some tears.
