On an unrelated note, I find it amusing that Joffrey consistently kind of has a 'modern' conception of things, yet is otherwise sadistic and undisciplined. He envisioned the modern army in season one, and he was expecting a relatively modern notion of Cabinet ministers reporting to their executive as well. Not to mention he took the far sighted position on Danny, which Tywin did not.
edit: and come on, theon got castrated...grrm is a perv. Basically everyone in the show gets raped and castrated.
If I'm not mistaken, Joffrey is simply more concerned with ruling than Robert was, hence the desire to be counseled. Robert was, more or less, hedonistic and seemed to hate being king. He wasn't as afraid of being killed or losing the power as much as he was afraid of doing real work. The only exception was with Daenerys, but I think that may have more to do with her being Targaryen and them stealing his first wife. Joffrey, on the other hand, sees shadows in random places. He's naive, a coward, an idiot, and sees himself as a divine power. Tywin is right to not fear dragons, which were known to be weak for centuries, though admittedly, he should show a little more caution.
Hes right to be sceptical but hes wrong as a matter of fact. He [tywin] clearly is relying on faulty information, making him either incompetent or, well, himself, naive and fooled. Probably the latter, with him relying too heavily on Varys. Joffrey is a coward personally, theres no doubt of that. But fearing Dany is completely rational, something even Robert understood a year beforehand, long before she gained a large army and a reputation. Joffreys negative qualities are his sadism, cowardliness and immaturity, insofar as it goes larger political concerns--given hes twelve- hes actually been quite apt.
Like I said, I don't think Robert was actually afraid of Daenerys. He hated the Targaryens because of what they did to his wife.
I don't think Lyanna was ever Robert's wife. They were just betrothed.
You're definitely right though, Robert didn't fear a Targaryen usurper at all. He just hated them all because one of them took Lyanna from him. If Robert was nothing else, he was a fearless warrior.
edit: fuck I scrolled down the page and someone beat me to it anyways...

It is pretty important for the quality of the story if Drogo raped Dany or not. I think it is safe to say that women do not fall in love with their rapists, so it would mean that we are watching a pretty terrible show if he did indeed rape her.
You can fall in love with your rapist, you can fall in love with someone who beats you or has even taken you hostage at gun point, for crying out loud. Nor would the inconsistency between Dany loving her rapist change what blatantly occurred. He raped her. What came after may be distasteful or implausible to you given that fact, but it IS what occurred.
yes he "raped" her, there is no argument. But the cultural difference makes it so his rape carries a VERY different weight than say if that happened today in our time. She knew what she was getting into, and he still treated her like a queen. Which is why she took the initiative and wanted to show him a good time after learning from that other girl in the camp. Normally after getting raped you don't try to please your rapist by learning how to fuck better.
You can complain all you want about cultural distinctions or the abnormality of her response, but the act merits the definition of the word rape no matter what way you parse it.
edit: Next were going to get idiotic remarks about how Crastor didnt rape and molest his daughters, nor did he commit murder, because sacrificing your incest-born sons to the Others isnt murder in their culture.
It's a TV-show/book. Please take the rape discussion somewhere else.
Uh oh. Hearing good news for Robert in that she's pregnant? Idk, that just seemed like it was foreshadowing bad things to come.
Also, joffrey and tyrion scene was hilarious. Tyrion saying "your grace" begrudgingly every time, and obviously having more power in that conversation.

I also love how he BARELY bowed at all. It was the most half-ass bow ever.
The best part was as he walked away he had the biggest fucking grin on his face ever like "that was too fucking easy".

Isn't his name Robb? Or am I missing something?
It is.
Robb is a Stark.
Robert is a Baratheon (though there's also Robert Aryyn in the Vale, who Jon Aryyn named after Robert Baratheon).

One thing I noticed this episode was that when the messenger from Yunkai was talking to Dany, Dany briefly looked at the slaves kneeling down and talked about freeing all the slaves in Yunkai. As another user pointed out, it would be a golden opportunity for the slaves to rebel in the city. Dany's army will protect them and escort them. She wanted the slaves to hear so they can spread the news I think.
Even though they said the walls are impenetrable, if the slaves inside revolt, the city would be easy pickings for the Unsullied army.
I've just read the books and I skipped the seasons before this one since I thought there was too much sex and shit. I really enjoy this season. The story is beginning to take form and soon some really big shit will happen :D.
I really hope that Dany doesn't smash her head against the walls of Yunkai. Hopefully we'll see a siege or something of Yunkai, with the Dragons roasting the shit out of those slavelords.

Not really a good reason to skip the first two books, considering there is sex in all of them? If you're worried about a little sex, this may not be the series for you. Also, be careful what you say, people are really sensitive about spoilers so you should edit.
omg u guys can not know how happy and relieved i am, that briene didnt get raped or die (omg nothing has horrible as rape T_T) thank you jamie, and thank god the theon tortue scene was cut short, another horrible thing (pleeease let it end)
tho its was a fantastic ep, im a bit worry about daney tho shes getting far too cocky tho if she cant break into the "yellow city" (i cant remember hte other name ye-something) theres no way she gonna be able to defeat westros. I really hope the blacksmith boy, doesnt end up dying to make some demon baby, or making out with the redlady (im hoping for the romance story between m'lady arya and him )
