This part with Loras was an obvious mistake (and there are more in the series) but considering + Show Spoiler [minor spoiler from Book 1] +Loras will probably not appear in this season again it was too much to ask the actor to spend some weeks/months in a gym so he can better look the part to only show up for 3 minutes in the whole season. ....go look at Bruce Lee... size of your arms =/= strength. I've seen smaller and thinner people to the guy who plays Loras be about 10x more powerful then massive Gregor like guys. So please don't try and call everything false logic. I've seen a 5 foot, super thin Thai guy kick a 6'3 ultra ripped Englishman in pads (the ones you hold for kicking practice) and make him stumble back 2 feet, when he wasnt even putting much force in his kick! seen it with my own eyes! Lol you pick Bruce Lee of all the people. He has a really strong sinewy body. Loras not even close to that. And you second example where you compare a martial artist focusing all his forward momentum into a kick and pushing someone away (who is at that point just a bag of force) to people fighting with swords and the effect of constant daily practice with piece of metal and the effect of that on your body, is a big FAIL. If want to go by these stupid descriptions that mean nothing, I seen with my own eyes a guy with a huge belly do a flying kick. But you know what, this guy was training martial arts for like 20 years and had 3x the muscle of Loras actor although he was not buff. no dude, i'm saying size doesnt mean shit all. go look at Samurai and see if u find massive body builder types there. and the martial artist wasnt focusing much energy to push back another martial artist that was double his size. It's not about how big you are, it's how you use those muscles. There's a martial arts theory that people have red and white muscles with red being big bodybuilder types that deliver burst power and white being less strength but more endurance and then pink type which is as powerful as red but as endurant as white and not bulky. anyways, size doesn't matter, especially if the entire force used is provided by a horse and not by you ie jousting. go watch Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong and see how smaller = stronger in some cases yeah, plus i'm skinny as a rake and i'd kick all your asses...... Rofl all you guys need to go watch some MMA. There is a reason they have weightclasses. In 99% of cases big does = better. The only times it doesnt is if the smaller guy is way better trained, and the big guy is untrained.
I have to agree with Tyler on this one, it only applies in unarmed fighting, otherwise Japan wouldn't be dominating the Kendo world.

So you would rather they give her the money instead of spending it on special effects and upcoming big battles?

With the exception of the percentage of us who are genetic freaks, being ripped comes from having a low body fat percentage and working out specifically for that, having a modern targeted diet. Funnily enough, the guys I know who are actually dangerous people in terms of using weapons or fist fighting are mostly not 'ripped'. And the only fighters I know who are ripped are competition fighters, because they can't have any extra weight. Many of the ripped bodybuilders I know are complete pussies and would get ripped to shreds by the guys with beer bellies. You can have enough strength to wear armour and hold weapons even if you don't look strong. While you are of course completely correct, in the context this argument came from Loras doesn't exactly have a beer belly either. He's a skinny kid with virtually no muscle mass at all, regardless of whether or not it's covered by a layer of fat. He has a gamer's physique, not any even remotely athletic one.
I disagree I have a gamer phsique yet I am stronger, faster, and have more stamina then I look.

Well, you should check the twitter and the blog.
For me... its rather clear that there is only 1 char that this could be. A powerful badass that we dont really know if it is for good, or evil. And its a female.
+ Show Spoiler +given that cat is allready casted (i wonder how she will look after u know what) i dont think there are many female roles left that are really powerful. http://twitter.com/#!/PalseyHBO audition tomorrow, round 4!! Third time lucky plus one??? Need to put the lines down and sleep zzzzzzzzzz from the blog in my post I originally auditioned for a very small role, and now I am up for a biggie! And she is evil too……. well maybe not evil but certainly not a character you would want to mess with. That is always fun, I do loving playing a powerful woman! I have practiced since I got the script a couple of days ago and know the part well. My brother has read all the books it is based on and so I always call him for the low down. His response for this one was that she was one scary motha…!

Would i rather they have put more money into special effects and upcoming big battles then use it to hire Sean Bean? No actually.
I also take it that someone like Bean is probably more expensive then her. HBO has big dollars so it's not like they really have to choose much, they can have it both ways.
Finally i feel that Game of Thrones is at it's core a story about people. The battles never did much for me. I cared for their outcome but little for when they actually took place. As great a writer as George is he isn't very gifted at writing battle scenes.
So i think money is better spend on actors then on extras for battle scenes, if the choice has to be made.

You can find lots of brilliant cheap actors though, but cheap special effects would hurt the show quite a bit. Most of the cast of this show is (probably) cheap nobodies and they're all doing great jobs.

There must be a skill cap to acting because i can't tell much of a difference between the acting skills of some well known actors and hardly known actors in other shows. Or maybe its because the acting skill is reliant on the director and stuff

i thought japanese dominated kendo because the majority of people who know kendo come from japan. (like sc for korea)

Or that there's an overflow of actors in general so there's lots of unknown good actors.

Christina Hendricks is out of the question. For one thing, she's still on Mad Men. For another, she's an American, and this production uses almost exclusively British actors. The only two Americans on the show are Peter Dinklage and Jason Momoa, who play roles that are extremely difficult to cast. Finally, Christina Hendricks refuses to do nudity, which the role of Melisandre requires.

Once you land one good role, unless you just majorly fark up, you are set for life as a "good actor".

I strongly disagree. thought kendo was a sport where they tap a stick against their oponent, not drive steel through plate or ringmail or leather. In kendo you don't try to incapacitate and or injure your opponent. For unarmored swordfighting it could be true, but if you're gonna fight someone with a sword, you better have some protection.
Strength and brutality most often wins.

+ Show Spoiler +Barely held off a half starved Jaime who had his hands bound, so no. Although she's certainly more than a match for most of the male characters.
Edit: + Show Spoiler +Although she did beat the Knight of Flowers in a tourney, and he's considered one of the best knights in Westoros, albiet hes extremely young. So she probably is top tier, just not numero uno.

@Isengrim + Show Spoiler +I think Brienne didn't want to harm Jamie or at least kill him, since she had to deliver him to King's Landing alive.

Strength and brutality most often wins. If someone took a kendo stick and smacked your head with it, they would shatter your face. It is not a sport where you stand around tapping sticks against each other. They wear leather armor for protection during fights, compare Kendo to Western fencing, which would be better described as a bunch of sissy men prancing around.
