On top of that, so many people are spoiling shit without even bothering to put spoiler tags in it. Show some consideration for the people who haven't read the books.

Why are they there? I got the idea that they are there for punishment or something and then sent to army/war. Though, i wouldn't be surprised if im wrong lol. I should pay more attention to the show.. Some are criminals and some go there by choice (Like Jon Snow). A lot of criminals are given the choice between taking the black and going to the wall or being thrown into a dungeon. They are there to protect the wall from the wildlings up north

I should pay more attention to the show.. They are the Nightswatch. They Guard the wall and thus the seven kingdoms against tribal people of the north called wildlings and against the "snowzombies" from episode on the white walkers (called the others in the book) The recruits are either prisoners who choose to guard the wall as an alternative to punishment or volunteers like Jon Snow. Edit: doh! too late ^^ Edit 2: for questions you can also visit the HBO viewers guide. http://viewers-guide.hbo.com/game-of-thrones/

I always wondered how deserters were recognized and caught because some of the Nights Watch does go south on orders like Yoren. I have read all the books, but i would be PISSED THE HELL OFF if i hadn't and clicked one of the spoilers thinking someone was talking about the episode for the night, only to have something huge spoiled. Part of what makes this series so amazing is the crazy effing shit that happens that you never see coming. On top of that, so many people are spoiling shit without even bothering to put spoiler tags in it. Show some consideration for the people who haven't read the books. While I think that people should not be discussing the plots of later books without relating it to the show however, I believe that people that have read the books should be able to discuss the changes between the books and the show and the implications thereof. I do agree that people should be careful to spoiler anything that hasn't happened in the show.

Yoren of course will have some documents or a ring to identify him. I guess a herald or someone experienced in this job can identify him as a recruiter.

Founded eons ago, the Night's Watch protects the Seven Kingdoms from the wilds of the Far North. Members of the Night's Watch swear an oath of duty, one that binds them to the job for life, and forbids them from marrying, fathering children or holding land. Desertion is a crime punishable by death. They dress entirely in black, hence the nicknames "crows" or "black brothers." Although the Night's Watch was once manned by volunteers from the noble houses, in recent years, the service has fallen on hard times and has lost the interest of the king. Its ranks are now formed of criminals and delinquents avoiding strict punishments, or high-born lords escaping scandal. Once bonded into the Watch, however, past crimes, allegiances and birthrights are forgotten, and each man can rise within its ranks. The primary duty of the Night's Watch is to maintain and defend the Wall, a 700-foot-high barricade of mostly ice that separates the Seven Kingdoms from the unknown that lies to the north. Lord Commander Jeor Mormont leads the Night's Watch from its stronghold at Castle Black, one of many fortresses that line the Wall. Benjen Stark serves as First Ranger and Mormont's second in command." I've stopped reading Bran and Sansa sections, sometimes Catelyn too. They're just so damn painfully boring compared to anything else.

While I agree that they are boring, they are inportant in the advancement of the story and reveal some information that you don't get anywhere else so I would advise against skipping them entirely.

I fully agree that the atleast the Sansa parts aren't too interesting. But just as the people above i would advice you to read it ^^, just to get a better picture of what's going on. __ Just watched the 4th episode, quite good ![]()

I'm sure that someone's mentioned it already but I absolutely love how Peter Dinklage tackles his role as Tyrion Lannister. He just seems so delighted at every barb and witticism he throws out, he carries himself like a Lannister would and just does a fabulous job. Along with the young lady playing Arya and Aiden Gillan(Littlefinger), Dinklage headlines the great casting of Game of Thrones.

He was way too important to be killed as a side note. Hell, he was a POV character, takes some doing to kill one of em. Also, is anyone else surprised when they saw Viserys on a horse again? I thought the deal was that he walked the rest of the way to the city, getting him the whole "Sorefoot King" nickname.

He just walked for a couple of days iirc, but the enormity of that insult was enough to earn him the nickname.
