Imagine you knew from beginning that Rudy is ITK and Dexter's brother..or generally watching a movie with spoilers. It's just not the same.
Most people would figure it out.
Such a little twist was all good and fun in Fight Club but Fight Club didn't last 10 hours.
I really don't get how people couldn't see it coming but perhaps i have just watched enough TV/films to see an obvious twist like that coming from miles away.

Dexter on the other hand is the most amazing, though provoking show ever. Season 1 and 4 of Dexter are spectacularly thrilling and very immersive. Every other season is preety much like first few seasons of Lost. The 'most thought provoking show ever' title goes to Breaking Bad, which is phenomenal. Every single season is extremely well written and you should both check it out. Lol no. Lost doesn't have a single season (maybe first half of season 1 when it is all still new and kind of cool before you figure out the show is just leading you on) that is equal or better to worst season of Dexter. As for Breaking Bad, maybe. But I don't have enough time to watch both BB and The Wire but I heard better things about the The Wire so that show is on my to watch list. Wow, you're really hating Lost. And I suppose you haven't seen season 5 of Dexter, that shit truly was horrible. Season 5 was weaker then others, but not nearly horrible. It had plenty of interesting stuff going on (and after investing 4 years of following the character of Dexter it is not such a horrible thing to see his interaction with children and "common" problems a single father has to deal with).

I was kind of disappointed to see the last episode. TL was right about Gellar I guess. I was of the opinion that it was absolutely absurd, because how the hell can someone chain themself up, and then torture themselves with a poker? But I guess anything is possible in Dexter.

I just watched Sundays episode last night. I want to first say props to those on TL that called it. I then want to add that you all that predicted it are not as good as my Mom.
I was watching the episode last night at my Moms on her laptop. She saw the beginning like minute where it was going through the recap, looks at Geller, and asks "Is that guy really there?". I told her that people have speculated he's not really there and is part of Travis' mind but it hadn't been proven yet. Then sure enough they prove it at the end of the episode. I was like "wtf!?".
I dunno how my mom does it. She did the same thing when I was younger with hour long crime shows like Diagnosis Murder. 30 mins in she knew who did it and every single time she was right. Just thought I'd share that my Mom > TL

Don't watch stuff with your mother. She sounds like a walking spoiler.

she didn't have 8 episodes of leadup tho. By the time they revealed gellar was dead it was already so obvious. the times he got "seen" by travis it was always fleeting and not able to be verified.

As much as people may not have cracked the case in terms of seeing that Dr.Gellar wasn't real you have to think about the kinds of people that visit this site. The demographic of this site is anywhere from twelve years old to 50+ years old. There are also plenty of people here who have the luxury of time; watching all kinds of scripted shows and have an intuition as to where a writer would go. Personally I'm in college studying to be a psychiatrist so I saw some things leading me to believe Travis was mentally ill to begin with plus hes a pretty bad ass painter.

I don't really think you can make a twist like that work out when you give the audience a chance to get away from the show/movie for a bit, clear their mind, think about it and come back. They just botched it up so badly, I mean there are ofcourse people that didn't notice it, but for people that are actually into Dexter enough to watch each episode atleast twice and think about it a bit over the week, it just gives them to much chance to notice the subtle(or in this twist's case, not so subtle) parts.
Just having Gellar keep popping up in public without any care that the whole city is looking for him was just terrible. They should've atleast made his character show some fear of getting caught.
But yer my biggest clue as to Gellar not being real was the smile at the end of the locust episode. If Travis had only been a drone of Gellar's, why would he be so happy?
In the end I was kinda hoping he'd be real, since I didn't really want to believe that their big twist would be so obvious. Suppose there are still 3 episodes left to surprise me.

Dexter on the other hand is the most amazing, though provoking show ever. Prison break (especially the first 2 seasons) was amazing. I don't understand why fans of one show feel the need to say how other shows suck. Anyway, it bothers me how many people know about the real Dexter - Lumen, Quinn, Jonah, Travis. The previous seasons he was much more cautions and I couldn't imagine Dex telling so many people who he really is. Nowadays instead of being more secretive he just goes to his victims, tells them that he is a killer and threatens them. Lol. First season was ruined just because you knew they would escape at the end and by 100 stupid ways everything went wrong for 20 episodes. Each season after that was worse and worse. I only watched it because my wife didn't give me a choice :D Both Breaking Bad and The Wire make Dexter look like TV aimed for children. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Dexter and have seen all seasons but it’s pretty banal in comparison. A warning though, The Wire can be very confusing in the beginning since the plot is a bit complex and there are so many characters. I actually turned off the first episode because I found it boring but if you continue to watch you will soon realize that The Wire is a masterpiece.
Edit: On topic, I haven’t really followed this thread so I didn’t see that the twist with Gellar coming at all.

Ooh wait, you aren't allowed to speak poorly of a terrible season because dexter fans must embrace the show and love it forever and ever.
I used to be the biggest dexter fan but this...i don't see how anyone can actually call this season good. It's mediocre at best and dexter isn't a show that is supposed to be mediocre. Of course you can speak poorly about a show, but I question your motives in doing so in a thread about said show... Just stop watching? Thanks for instantly proving my point in how Dexter fans cannot actually stomach any criticism towards their show without responding like that.
Now, now children...

Well his believe is he is doing God's work, bringing the end of the world, so him getting caught would put a bit of a dent in that plan. However it's a good point that maybe he would believe God would protect him from getting caught or something.

At first I was thinking Gellar might have been alive for the first part of the season, and that maybe Travis flipped and killed him after Gellar killed his sister, but now I'm not so sure. It just seemed a little hard to swallow that Travis would kill his sister. If he did (probably) then he is definitely a schizo because the one side of him only wanted to protect her.
Also, I guess Travis banged himself in the face with a shovel that one episode (showed Gellar do it)???
Quinn banged that old WaffleHouse mom and took pics on his phone. LOL.

I was beginning to feel like Dexter's a complete idiot for not being suspicious, and walking down into that trap door just sealed the deal for me. Another low point of this episode was the terrible technobabble. "I can find the Internet Protocol Address of the blog, yo." Dissociative Identity Disorder is real. Is it Fight Club status? No, that is obviously complete Hollywood (albeit still awesome). The basic "being someone completely different for a while and completely forgetting about it" is pretty real though.
You are definitely right about one thing though, his bullshit technobabble is getting really fucking dumb. I thought that kind of shit was reserved for day-time television. It's not as bad as some shows though: http://www.cracked.com/article_19160_8-scenes-that-prove-hollywood-doesnt-get-technology.html
Grats to Cainam for calling the Gellar thing so far back. It became glaringly obvious once people kept just missing Gellar, but you called it way before any of that. Would have been cool if the exact same plot twist wasn't used 12 years ago. Now it's just boring.
I'm way more excited about the hand in the guy's apartment. Hopefully they do something great with that and not repeat what they did with Trinity's son and have it be a single episode arch. I would really like to see him be a serial killer and compete with Dexter or go after Dexter or something along those lines. One thing Dexter has above every other serial killer is the fact that he has access to all the resources the police department has. If there was someone else that had those same resources, it could turn out to be interesting. What will more likely happen though is he becomes Dexter's protegee, which will be boring and predictable because they've done it twice already.
And WTF. Do something with the Anderson character. He's said like two lines the whole season, but they've both been awesome and Doakes-esque. Make him be some Sherlock Holmes shit who races against Dexter to find the killer. Like seriously, Dexter has found out all of these serial killers through common-sense detective work that he does on his SPARE TIME, and every other detective in the department is 20 steps behind (maybe because most of them of going through a mid-life crisis and a self-destruction downward [boring] spiral, respectively). Anderson could be the chance to make Miami PD not look like complete buffoons.
