It's basically like Ino's body control technique. He took control of the Byakugan guy's body, and "trapped" Byakugan guy's consciousness in that weird charm on the tree. He wanted to dig out the guy's Byakugan before returning to his own body, back with Danzo. However, the eye had a protective justsu on it that activated on its own, so he tried to commit suicide with the body by falling on the sword and jumping back to his own body at the last second. He was stopped by the Mizukage, who realized that it was an imposter, forcing the Konoha guy to jump back to his body.

and then he becomes a trap card for the mizukage when he gets saved, rocket punch > trap card, and that's that, basically a stupid waste of time and ink.

Yes....one akatsuki without access to his weapon of choice. If Kisame had been fused with samehada, or if he even had his sword I think it would've been a different story. I mean, he pretty much neutralized Hachbi's 2nd form with a single touch, I doubt Raikage would've made any difference. And that definitely pisses me off! They should've let Kisame live. He was such a badass. I knew that only Plot Induced Stupidity would kill him.
well he did do a water substitution jutsu before he died so there's a chance that hes still alive. It's hard to tell because we weren't given a closer look at the body, all we saw was the silhouette of the body and some liquid. If he is still alive though, i wonder if he is going to find another sword... One hopefully wont turn on him for stupid reasons.

On another note, did the scan just change? I could've sworn Ao said "you old conniving bitch" the first time I read it, now it says "you old hag," and naruto says "ARE YOU KIDDING ME" in the last panel, but now he says something else.
