I didn't see a topic for this Manga, so I'm creating one.
The story focuses on an eccentric samurai, Gintoki Sakata, his (partial) apprentice Shinpachi Shimura, and a teenage alien girl who's from one of the strongest races in existence: yato. All three are "freelancers" known as the Yorozuya. They search for work in order to pay the monthly rent. The story takes place in the Edo Period, but instead of the Europeans invading in the late 1860s they are invaded by aliens, which they call Amanto.
Gintama arc are either parody or serious battles, but there aren't super powers or special techniques, the fights are quite magnificent.
About this week chapter: could that guy that we saw on the flashback be Gintoki's father? And damn, this arc is really good.
|
+ Show Spoiler [Chapter 520] +Flashback guy is Oboro (I think that's who you're referring to?), from chapter 392-398 (episodes 258-260), hope Takasugi is still alive, he needs to do more fighting. This arc is really good so far and is looking to be the longest in Gintama.

There is a thread specifically for the anime
Man this arc though......god fucking damn it.

Meh, to be honest this manga (and anime) stopped being good a long time ago. Remember the first two episodes of the anime (that were not in the manga) and how shit they were? That's pretty much how this series turned out in the end. Like Bleach, it had its run.
Yeah sure it's cool that [spoilers]Gintoki chopped off his master's head[/spoiler], but seriously other than that this manga stopped being funny a long time ago and I was literally just flipping through the pages like I do with Bleach each week it came out without even a smirk whenever someone tried to tell a joke.

Looks like the final boss is Shishio Makoto.

Dear OP please add description of anime/manga into OP.
Relevant: seems interesting. I'm intrigued.

Sadly this manga has been going gradually downhill for a very very long time. The lack of character development has meant that the author needs to pull emotional plotlines out of his ass each arc and the same jokes are being overused (e.g. Shinpachi being represented by only his glasses, Otika being a sadist, Gintoki only coming to eat sweet deserts rather than save someone, etc).
It's time for this manga to come to an end, but milking it for all its worth seems to be the way things are going, which is why the Bakfu will never die.

Says so much about this series, haha.
Definitely one of my favorites. When I was reading through it I had to stop a few times and read something else because I was laughing too much and had hit my limit. Guess the humor style used fits me fairly well or something.
For anyone that hasn't read it, just look at a list of chapter titles and see if they make you laugh or not. Gems like 'The Red on Santa is probably Blood,' or 'It's Only a Superstition that Bees Stings Go Away When You Piss on them In Reality It's Just a Great Way to Get Germs So be Careful!', or my personal favorite 'There are Two Types of Humans in the World, Those that Shout Special Attacks and Those That Don't.'

This new chapter, bloody streets.

Gintama is my absolute fav.
|
I feel like the author for the past two volumes has been trying to throw in too many "damn that was awesome" moments in at a time.
It would have been better if he spread it out, that way it doesn't lose its effect. Everytime someone is about to die, suddenly another hero jumps in to save them.
He (or his company) really needs to stop milking this manga by doing pointless short comedy chapters (that aren't funny anymore) and just start doing a longer, overall plot with one bad guy like Rurouni Kenshin.
|
Since this manga feels the need to have a "wow" moment every chapter, with 20 or so enemies suddenly turning good guys who were only pretending to be enemies saving good guys at the last second (the gag will never be up), the boss is likely Gintoki's former master, who's all evil and shit but as he dies and does a Darth Vader moment he will say I always believed in you Gintoki and this was my plan all along to see you rise to becoming a Samurai blah blah blah:

How does Gintoki cleanly chop his master's head off with a sword, yet manages to not chop a single hair so that when the head flies off, the long hair still remains?

That's how good Gintoki is.
