Even if Gintama goes back and forth between serious chapters/arcs and comedy ones, there's still a limit. Replacing some of the characters would let him use new gags/character quirks instead of needing to continue reusing them past their expiration date. Hijikata's mayo fetish hasn't been too entertaining for awhile, though the rest of his character is interesting enough (such as his reasoning behind the mayo usage). Still, it's not an easy thing to decide to kill any character that is even remotely popular as there's likely to be a significant part of the audience whose primary interest in the series is because of that character. Not much is different from the anime to the manga. Anime has fillers obviously but there isn't much change. | ||
