Ok, a Chinese Manhua...I thought I would never get into it, but boy, this series proved me wrong. Tops even some of the best Japanese mangas for me. Has anyone read it? It seems like it's still on-going and there is a group releasing it.
Read it here: http://www.mangahere.com/manga/feng_shen_ji/
Some sample pictures: + Show Spoiler +
The summary:
The Great Shang dynasty has been in power for many years but the Gods' find fault with the new emperor. Instead of submit to their will at the expense of his people, the Emperor resolves to throw off the Gods' yolk and free humanity. However, not only the Gods but a rival, the young Zhou who submits to the Gods' will for his own purposes will face him! The fate of the dynasty, nay, the fate of all humanity will be determined by this great battle between the forces of Heaven and Earth!
The artwork is jaw-dropping, the story is intense and interesting, and the characters (especially main character) is extremely like-able. If you haven't read it, please give it a try. The Chinese names are harder to remember than the Japanese ones but honestly there didn't seem to be that many names. I liked popular manga such as Gantz, Berserk, Siren, but this manga is just epic. Try it out!

Been enjoying manhua more and more. Either they've gotten a lot better recently or groups are finally translating good ones.
|
It's okay, the main character's wife is kinda lame tho.
|
This is a great manhwa. Nice drawings, full color. The main chacacter is kinda lame i agree, but he went from a spoiled brat, to a slave, to the "chosen one" so it's acceptable..
i like it!
|
The main character was a brat in the beginning, but he goes through a lot of character development. I hated him in the beginning too.
|
Really one of the best I've read in a long time. The raws are so far ahead of the english releases though (like nearly 100 chapters ahead >~<)

Just an update to this - they are now releasing 3 chapters a week. Gonna be caught up in no time. This manga is amazing -- easily my favorite out of hundreds. Read to like chapter 5 and you will be hooked.

My most eagerly anticipated manga every week as well =] Only drawback I find is that a lot of the minor characters are quite hard to differentiate

My favorite Manhwa after Ravages of Time. It's always a fun a good-looking read.

wat? Wife is not lame! She's awesome! Quick step ftw!

I prefer it to Bleach, Naruto, and tied with OP in terms of keeping me entertained. The backstory is actually not lame, and somewhat well thought out.

There are still nearly 30-40 chapters in the second volume, and the 3rd volume is already solidly underway, last I checked there were 10 chapters out for that at least.

That is amazing, I can't wait. :X

The story, the battles, the caracters, the colos and the art!

Wewt! Ty! Why is this manga so good? Love the endless fights with bad asses! This does what Bleach could not!
|
Wow is this based on Feng Shen Yan Yi? It's a famous book about these gods and deities at the end of the Shang Dynasty period in china.
|
I was actually wondering...what does Feng Shen Ji mean?
|
On December 26 2013 08:04 SoSexy wrote:I was actually wondering...what does Feng Shen Ji mean?
Feng Shen essentially means 'deity-naming' or 'deifying'. The process by which a human or something is raised up to the rank of deities.
Ji means record, or story.

LOL what you're thinking of is 疯, whereas this one is 封. Both are pronounced as feng
Just started reading this manhua last night, HOLY SHIT BALLS it's good! Sooo much better than Bleach and all that garbage. Man I feel bad for those guys who can't read Chinese. The names, the locations and everything sounds so much better in Chinese. Really enjoying it so far probably will rank among my top 10 fav mangas. Thanks TL!
Edit: so far from the way I understand it, it seems like the Gods are simply a more evolved 'species', kinda like humans and neanderthals, but just far more advanced? Do they go into the backstory of this stuff more? It's very interesting
Edit 2: Just got up to date. Love the backstory of all the species. It uses a lot of taoist concepts like the 3 different worlds is referencing the 3 realms of reality in taoism (三界). The super ancient oracle script used during the Shang dynasties is also pretty cool since the word for Tian is basically this:
which kinda looks like Tian and his dragons
Also some other pieces of backstory: Fu Xi is the supposed progenitor of the Han chinese, along with Nu Wa produced the human race from clay.
Pan Gu is the first living being and creator of all things. Before him there was chaos and he was in an egg, then he awakens and breaks it. He is often depicted as a primitive human with a hairy body and HORNS. He separated the sky (Tian) from the ground (Di) by pushing it apart. Eventually after 18000 years he dies and every part of his being becomes something (e.g. his eyes become the sun and moon, breath becomes the wind...)

Can't say I'm a huge fan of this manga. Reminds me too much of Bleach - bad guy does some shit talk, good guy says let's just see who's stronger, attacks bad guy, bad guy is hit and surprised good guy manages to land a hit, good guy goes: "Haha, what say you now?" Bad guy replies: "Hurr durr, I underestimated you, now let me show you my true power." Good guy gets hit. Bad guy says: "Monkeys never had a chance against Gods." Good guy thinks about friendship or some bullshit and comes up with a previously unknown power and kills bad guy. Rinse, repeat over every single fight. DBZ syndrome also comes into effect where the characters become so powerful that the only way to progress is to make the next character even more powerful and the next power-up even more powerful. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to do shit translations of the next chapter in the interim. Let me know if you want this or not:
+ Show Spoiler +
Dammit, flood control prevents me from using the image tags.

I feel exactly the same Takuma, even though I still think it's worthwhile to read. I guess the difference is that I feel Bleach started off well and spent some time explaining how different powers worked etc. - and then threw all of that logic away at some point. Feng Shen Ji feels like it's always been this light hearted fighting heavy brawl where wu geng just magically beats the living shit out of every bad guy, no explanation needed lol. That, and the art is pretty sick.
Also, I'd read your translations if the pages weren't split in half!
|
Hahahha. "All your base are belong to us". Thanks.
|
Its pretty standard piece as far as hk comics goes. Its jes martial arts story basically. Its been like this for past 20-30 years.
As added info, this manga is based off a classical novel with a very different interpretation. As far as the original story goes, the shang dynasty was overthrown by zhou where gods took part on both sides resulting in the gods retreating from human affairs.
The japanese manga version of this is called 'Houshin Engi' (Same chinese title). This is a humorous version also with its own interesting interpretation. Check this one out if you like some sci-fi.
|
This has quickly become one of my favs ! Don't hesitate to take a look.
The mix of US - European comics in a Chinese environement, with a good story and awesome art in color. What more can one ask for ?
The size of the team working on this must be quite big also.
|
Hey guys for those who can't read Chinese and haven't read series 3 yet, basically the author is predicting that the manga will end at around chapter 180. The chinese version is up to chapter 165 or so as of jan 2nd, so the end is in sight. There are a lot of...surprising developments that will come up in the future. A lot of great backstory with pretty much all the major characters will be explored.
|
hey this is pretty epic from the get go, good job, just started
|
|
Wow I'm only at chapter 3 but this manga is awesome. The art is gorgeous and the characters are so cool
|
Probably has one of the best styles in terms of artwork I've seen - right up there with Berserk, Vagabond, Tenjou Tenge, Air Gear, Shin Angyo Onshi, etc. Actually I might like this even more than all of those save Berserk.

Just started reading this recently. I'm at the part where he's about to learn the smelting aura technique. I'm loving the story so far. My only complaint is that I wish Wu Geng was able to stand on his own a bit more. I mean he's definitely smart and seems to learn quickly and master his divine power:monochrome but in pretty much all the fights right now, he's been helped a lot more than I thought he should be although I guess that's normal when you are fighting great gods and such

Man, I hope this manga doesn't go into a shitty direction like DBZ where they just keep powering up and eventually go into Super Saiyan mode and the main character's hair changes from black to gold.
+ Show Spoiler +
|
I read part 3 and in the 10 chapters or so, I was kind of disappointed lol .
|
i can't see how you even began to draw the comparison to dbz, its nothing close to it. the plot is very well written, the coloring is VERY SOLID. there is almost no other manga artist that i've seen who can draw on par with full color...especially action scenes. the more accurate comparison would be bleach in terms of abilities. the mark of a person with strength is if he can achieve a divine power, (just like a bankai) which can either kill you be one of the strongest abilities. the main character lost his arm in the process of reaching his divine power.
and there is no such thing as hair changing colors, in that picture one of the tribes called darkones probably gave him their soul force which is why his hair turned green. it wouldn't otherwise ever happen.
as far as the manga goes, zi yu's character is legit badass. the only complain is the simplicity in his techniques....as far as his smelting aura goes all he pretty much does is rain down aura swords (which never work) and then usually follow up with a sword through the heart. you'd think he'd learn by now since the first chapter a few new tricks with the aura. if you're capable of creating anything through your imagination, well i'd argue he has alot more he can do.
|
Yay Zi Yu. Good teamwork from the gang.
|
|
Oh yeah by the way, Ah Gou means "the dog", literally. It is what someone would name a stray dog, usually. Keep in mind, "the dog, and cabbage are two of the main character's names."
|
This doesn't go the way of DBZ at all.
I've read well into series 3, it takes a very different and interesting turn.
From about Chapter 40 and onwards in Season 3, it gets SO FUCKING intense. And its all plot driven, not power creep.

TLADT24920 Posts
In terms of the latest chapter, I get the feeling that Ah Gou will wear down Tian but it won't be enough and that it's Shen's energy ball or whatever it is that will kill him. Think Tian is worn down, so is Ah Gou on the ground and no one can help him. Shen seems this as an opportunity and uses it. I still don't see how Shen will ever be a match for the dark ones or Ah Gou though. Anyone else think it felt like a copout with the whole 'Tian's fighting spirit is now back. It's out of my hands" lol.

What a comeback.
FSJ is full of surprises. I kinda like the fact that the end was a bit of a twist so that we could continue the manga, and this time without the overarching shadow of Tian. This will make the gods more interesting IMO, since they have to improve as well.

I think that's the point that his uncle is going to make, they are pretty much doing the exact thing that the gods did to them. They are probably going to work out another way to solve things after they realize they are going to put the native human tribes in their former position.

He was becoming like Tian and full of himself. Kong Que(sp?) made a good point about him forcing the people off their own land so I figure they'll just learn to live with them or something. This chapter was pretty good. Would've liked to see monochrome casted once by Ah Gou though just to see its effects lol. Next chapter should be good

nooo he's ruining everything. Interesting how they are fighting, but they are all fighting for what they believe is best for their people. The first arc was basically just like the good guys (dark ones) versus the bad guys (gods) but now it's getting a little more complicated than that.

Newest chapter is out! Ah Gou is such a fucking boss! + Show Spoiler +Love seeing him fight and his combination is brilliant as well. As mentioned, I don't see how his combo can be defended against unless you have monochrome or some ridiculous speed. Having said that, I have a feeling that Siwang won't die either. It's always been implied that Ah Gou's Monochrome did not match up to Tian's, and even during the moment when Ah Gou panicked and let loose an enormous amount of Monochrome (probably more than shown in S3) was when they admitted that his monochrome was close to Tian's level.....

Well Ah Gou was also incredibly weak when he was in the mines, and we haven't seen a glimpse of Shang for all these years, so it's quite believable that he has a ton of power. The only problem I have is not with his power level, but with how little limelight the author gave to the boy during the Mine story, and now suddenly he's an important char.

Newest chapter is out! :D Not a bad chapter. + Show Spoiler +Definitely a new move that Ah Gou wasn't prepared for so I wonder how he plans to deal with it. The best method seems to be to block out the sound though I dunno how viable it is and what he can use (focus monochrome on his ears? lol). Other than that, I still find it a bit hard to believe that Shang is that strong but again, it's just some new move and a shield using smelting aura, nothing amazingly impressive. I wonder just how much stronger these honored ones are and if Ah Gou will end up leaving Dark Ones' city after this or not.

He has the Divine arts, Dark spiritual power and smelting aura and still people think they can win ? :D I feel the same. Monochrome was this barrier or attack mechanism that slowly choked an opponent (made it hard to breath etc...) but recently, it doesn't feel as strong anymore. I don't know if its because the author figured out that it's OP and nerfed it in Ah Gou's absence or if Ah Gou just never used it to his full potential. As mentioned ^, it was even said to be close to Tian's level which to me indicates that he's close to getting to its upper limit (white wall or w/e that move was called that Tian used on his uncle).

Well, true, it wouldn't be surprising if he's really strong however with Ah Gou, his divine power by itself is close to Tian's level. That divine power is quite feared because of how strong it is (defense and offensive). I dunno, it just feels like Shang came out of nowhere and is all of a sudden challenging Ah Gou to a fight that he shouldn't win. Anyways, wrote more in spoiler above.

+ Show Spoiler +It's because of who Jiang Shang (Jiang Ziya) actually was in history. Chinese readers would automatically know he's going to be an OP centerpiece at one point or another.

+ Show Spoiler +yes please! While I don't hate smelting aura technique, I prefer he uses monochrome a lot more. It's a pretty powerful technique and I think variations of it would make it more interesting. I mean, why can't he get it to white wall or w/e the final upgrade for the move is? I'm pretty sure all those smelting aura users wouldn't be able to fight against that at all, then again, maybe having a body from smelting aura makes you immune to that?
His dark powers aren't that strong tbh. I mean, he knows spiritize, cool, so what? no limit break and I think he caught his opponent by surprise with the moon rounds bouncing back etc... it's definitely a cool thing that he can do with his spritize though but still, I think any opponent will a good grasp of his attack and a defensive mechanism will have no problems with it. His monochrome is his ace imo. Being able to create an immovable wall while affecting your opponent physically etc... is pretty big. Either way, I think these White Creed people are another obstacle. For some reason, I feel like we'll have the Gods and Dark Powers work together against the White Creed. The balance of power will shift towards the humans' end if what I'm thinking comes true.
On a side note, hope we see what happened to the Gods. Nothing since they got the powers from the ancient Gods.

monochrome was the primary reason that tian was the most powerful being by far for what, the last xxxxxx years?
yes, exactly. I am also disappointed that it seems to be thrown to the side in favour of smelting aura and spiritize. I mean, ya, I realize we had a decent number of chapters having Ah Gou develop it to the level it is today especially since a good portion of chapters were about having to get back against the Gods etc... but it's one of those moves that I love to see being used.
One thing though, I think Tian also had great strength and tons of experience but monochrome is definitely one of those moves that elevated him on top of everything else

Latest chapter was pretty good. + Show Spoiler +Wonder what that seed does to the people and that sacrifice as well. I can only figure they are controlled to some degree based on what they showed us.
|
it obviously controls them as the original King showed and he wanted to break free of it which only drove him more mad.
i love how the story ties back to old people though like the mines and everything instead of just ass pulling chars for convenience. Loving this, wish i could read chinese to catch up to the full ending!
Also, LOL @ Shit Eater Prince. buahahahha Ah Gou. How do you NOT like this main character lol.

lol yes, of course. My previous comment was in regards to the previous chapter. + Show Spoiler +Well, he went mad because he broke the seed because it was changing him and taking him over.
As much as I disliked Mu, I feel bad for him being all jailed and such. Imagine if Ah Gou frees him, wonder if he'll pledge loyalty to him then lol. I have a feeling that White Creed will surpass both Dark Ones and Gods and that they'll have to work together to defeat them. On that note, we haven't heard much about the Gods since they were reborn as ancient ones, wonder what the deal is.
Yes, I <3 Ah Gou. Now if only he can be a better husband for Bai Cai!

+ Show Spoiler +dang, was hoping they wouldn't kill him but at least he died without regrets. I think it was the perfect time for Ah Gou to act seeing that as soon as the leaders took those seeds, things would've just went badly from this point on. I really would like to see what the Gods are up to though. Several years since we've heard anything about them but surely, they must be seeing what's going on, right? :S

I think it is much more plausible that it's Li Ne Zha's mother. It wouldn't make sense that the rock's head would be the old tree because here is what it says on page 5 of chapter 118 "Yet in the end they end up killing the world tree and absorbing it's life force" http://www.mangahere.co/manga/feng_shen_ji/c118/5.html

Not sure if it was mentioned before, but there is Da Jun Fa (rough translation: The Big Warlord), which is set during the early Warlord Era in China after the fall of the Qing Dynasty (~1911). So it's obviously a large departure from the Wuxia/Fantasy setting of Feng Shen Ji, but still has plenty of martial arts. Here is a chapter.
To be honest, I don't find it as interesting as Feng Shen Ji, but that's mostly due to my disinterest in the setting.

Warning: long post ahead with major spoilers.
I couldn't stand to wait any longer for the English translations, so just went ahead and read everything left. There are about + Show Spoiler [# of chapters] + chapters left, and the story progresses quite well right up to the ending. While FSJ has loads and loads of characters, most of them are not just randomly introduced, and characters stick around for long parts of the storyline. For those reading the English translations week by week, the story doesn't deteriorate like it does in some shonen manga. Random thoughts below.
+ Show Spoiler [Some of this stuff is not spoilerish,…] +- While FSJ definitely suffers from power creep, it's handled better than it is in most manga. Non-main characters introduced early on ( + Show Spoiler +with the exception of the lost ones, who really don't get any more plot development or powerups ) are still relevant up to the conclusion of the series. - + Show Spoiler [Major spoiler -- the ending] +The final confrontation is kind of weak. Granted, FSJ isn't a completely story-driven manhwa, but I felt there was just no buildup to the last revelation. Tian isn't dead, he was just faking it. He's bored because he's created and destroyed three separate societies of existence (gods, mankind, etc). He offers Ah Gou a place among the new gods when the world is destroyed again, but Ah Gou says fuck it, I'm gonna fight you instead. Tian is impressed enough with him and the rest of existence that he says "k u guys r on ur own now i wont interfere lol" and just fades away. Ah Gou goes on to become the supreme overlord of everything. Except for he doesn't give a shit and just flies around on this weird animal thing holding the blood spear. - + Show Spoiler +Shi Xing dies so many times. Even for his final death during the series conclusion, you'd expect him to stay dead, something along the lines of "now I can join my beloved." Nope. Though I guess his ending is kind of touching. - Gui Mu... last time we see him where the English version has progressed, he's locked in a basement and is fat. He's never mentioned again. - + Show Spoiler [White Creed arc] +This arc is about as "filler" as it gets for FSJ. Most important results are Jiang Shang/Ziya joining the good team as a ridiculously powerful ally and Phantom World ppl thinking that Ah Gou is their savior after, well, being saved by them. I guess other things happen that are relevant later on, like Nezha getting his final powerup in the form of a controllable gigantic rock statue, a la Pacific Rim. - + Show Spoiler [Prince Ji Qiao] +His ending is karmic, but at the same time he's a karma houdini. Dude's an asshole, through and through, and manages to... mostly escape punishment. Well, I guess he loses his city, all of its inhabitants, and his position as the king of men. Perhaps that's punishment enough. - The Dark Ones generals really step up their game. Mask guy (Siwang) is a ridiculous badass on multiple occasions. - Ziyu is and remains a badass. - Zhen Chen shows up randomly and is still hilariously overpowered. He's really taken this "I'm gonna preach 2 u" thing far. - + Show Spoiler [Shen Yan] +He goes down like a bitch without putting up much of a fight. During the huge final battle he's being all Orcus on his throne, just sitting there super smug. He's got a thing for dragon dudes. - + Show Spoiler [Other gods] +Almost all of the gods end up "rebelling" against Shen Yan. Mostly because Shen Yan is a dick and betrays them. Young lightning god joins, all of the sage kings end up defecting, etc. Even Ah Gou's bitch of an aunt (srsly don't take ur dad's eyes) joins the good guys at the end. Still shows the most cleavage in the entire series though.

YES! Great chapter. Finally, we get more fighting. It's always amazing to see how good the images end up being in fight scenes. + Show Spoiler +Also, that armor is crazy OP. If it's able to repel even dark prison and he can't possibly damage it, only thought is that he'll have to time it out and hold on till it runs out. That or somehow revert the amount of smelting aura Bu took in to reduce or dispel the armor then he can finish him off.

These battles in the latest chapter, so good! :D + Show Spoiler +Bu Nu though, man, such a cheater though I guess Ah Gou cheated with the medicine as well lol. Wonder if he'll use the sun rounds now (or was it moon rounds that bounce back?). That's my gut feeling at least since Bu Nu hasn't seen them yet so it's another trick up his sleeve.

Some plot summary spoilers from reading chinese subs, dont read if you dont want to be spoiled
+ Show Spoiler +-zongheng tianxia defeats heitie by using heat to make his iron body immovable -ah gou resorts to using his full divine power to fight bu nu -siwangyenshen underwent an exorcism (thus his mask) to become "immortal" or at least undead/unkillable. he kills the honored one that he's fighting by smashing his skull, this fight was pretty compelling to watch -hanfeng lin lin uses his frost abilities to freeze his honored one + Show Spoiler +-rock face is revealed to be shiji, nezha's mom, princess of wanqu. -the ( now dead) king gave her a powerful seed which is supposed to be used to fight "nothingness", which the phantom island citizens are at war against. -one of the 6 honored ones has been secretly infected by "nothingness" and seeks to use the life force from the city to destroy phantom island, thus nezha's mom has been on the run all this time. -the honored ones have been hunting her to use the seed to fight "nothingness", but the infected one wants to destroy it to guarantee "nothingness" victory, she doesn't know which of the honored ones are infected -she and nezha interrupt bu nu in their fight after they have been exhausted, she tells her story to bu nu. because bu nu once let her escape in the past, he is least likely to be the infected one -bu nu calls a ceasefire, he goes to confront the leader of the honored ones + Show Spoiler +-bu nu asks the leader to stop the assault and says he will fight if he must, the leader calls bu nu gullible and easily knocks him out. the leader then goes to fight ah gou while the 6th one goes off to activate something. the whole place becomes a giant golem (with everyone inside of it) and begins to travel into phantom island. -the dark one generals find ah gou and through their combined power they take down the leader. the 6th honored one comes back and says he has finished his tasks -because dark ones will die when they enter phantom island, shiji has them teleported out back into the grounds -the leader demands shiji to return the seed, and says everything he does is for the good of phantom island. -shiji gives the condition that he must allow her to inspect all of the honored ones to see which one is infected, and that all 6 honored ones must be present during inspection. she says the seed will react when it is near beings infected by "nothingness", and when it reacts, the other 5 can fight the infected one + Show Spoiler +-of course, this is a lie by shiji to provoke the 6th honored one (who is the infected one), he jabs his arm through the leaders chest, kidnaps shiji and runs away. -the giant golem turns into a monster with blobs dripping out and slowly goes to attack phantom island. nezha is the only one who can deactivate it -the leader gives his seed (and his powers) to jiang shang and then dies -ah gou suppresses the golem using his divine power while nezha goes to deactivate the giant golem. nezha couldn't damage the insides but then remembers a special ability taught by stone face which not only deactivates the golem, but activites the "seed" which was actually hidden in his amulet by his mother. this expels the "nothingness" in the golem, grants nezha control over it and also revives heitie, bu nu and the other honored one -they then go to fight the last honored one and save nezha's mother + Show Spoiler +-nezha fights the last honored one (who has become a being of blobs) using the giant golem, where as ah gou, jiangshang and the 3 honored ones enter the source of the nothingness -nezha has a hard time at first, then easily defeats and kills the last honored one, but before he dies he says something along the lines of "what? the nothingness must have accepted your mother as a new host" -only ah gou and jiangshang come out and says the 3 honored ones and shiji will stay in there forever - its revealed that "nothingness" never wanted to attack phantom island, but its characteristics depend on its host, the previous host wanted destruction but it found shiji's characteristics much more suitable therefore abandoned the honored one in favor of shiji. shiji accepted to be the host so that phantom island will never be attacked again. the other three honored ones stay with her even if they can never leave again. + Show Spoiler + -ah gou rests in phantom island for a while, and jiangshang agrees to go back with him to the dark ones -mean while, the new gods have attacked the dark ones city, and are prepared to launch a massive attack -kongque and the other gods of dark ones city have been captured -bai cai has died, and ah gou enters hell to find zonghengzhiye to make a bargain. he retrieves bai cai's soul, but in return he must give up his soul after 1 year. ah gou quickly holds a marriage ceremony then prepares for battle immediately -the shit eating prince offers his allegiance to ah gou because he is afraid of the gods now. ahlan, zhuiri and other outcast gods come to their aid. the other dark ones generals who did not join the city also came to fight -the dark ones generals of the city fight "great gods". zonghengtianxia is quickly killed. siwangyenshen also dies when his mask is destroyed, but not before dealing a damaging blow to his great god. han feng lin lin almost kills his great god, but falls short. ah gou defeats his great god (the poison pool one that he fought many years ago) -the ancient war between ancient gods and dark ones was won by four dragons, white dragon, black dragon, also yellow and red dragon. pan gu is resurrecting yellow and red dragon to fight the dark ones.

Latest chapter is out! :D + Show Spoiler +The mom has finally revealed herself! Wonder what she has to say about keeping Bu Nu alive. Guess that they must find a solution for phantom island and that will cause the honored ones to back down or something. As for the fight, pretty interesting idea by Bu Nu and almost worked had Ah Gou not pushed his power to its maximum which was legit. Ne Zha arriving on time also 'fits' so good there lol.

+ Show Spoiler +Si Wang is a fucking boss! I know he's going to take this so seeing him losing that arm and get stabbed then burned is nothing to him lol. He's so scared now that he'll probably break down just from the fear. Can't wait to see how he finishes him off (or if they make it in time to prevent him from doing so)

Just read this over the last week whenever I had the time and now I'm going to have to wait each week for the new chapter... Damn it...

SiWang YenShen!!!!!! + Show Spoiler +Who would've realized that he's essentially immortal so long as the mask doesn't break lol. Suck a badass though crushing his skull ugh. That scene felt really disturbing when I was reading it. 2 down, 1 about down but left to live so we still have 3 honored ones (cap guy lol, the one with all the blue in that second last panel and one left) to fight. Wonder if they are the boss level and the other three were a level lower or something. The story is getting even more interesting. I still don't understand how Bu Nu plans to find out who has been taken over the nothingness just from telling them about it.

+ Show Spoiler [Latest chapter] +man, I feel bad for Xiao Lu. I like the idea of her constantly telling the honored one that he can do it so I wonder what this means. Chances are he'll lose his mind if she's froze to death which it seems like she's getting there :/ I also have a feeling that Linlin is going to die here while taking down Quan Dao.
|
TLADT24920 Posts
+ Show Spoiler +Felt so sorry for Xiao Lu and Quan Dao. Friends separated by death. Wonder if Xiao Lu will ask Linlin to let her free to death or if she'll kill herself after that. I do hope that Quan Dao somehow manages to recover and gets back with her. Guess linlin did survive though being in phantom island is a death sentence for him and the dark ones. Wonder what's going to happen now and who's behind strengthing the nothingness. Imagine if it was the Gods then wow, so crafty T.T Having said that, I do wish we eventually see them pop up again. I like these fights but some of those other ones were crazy good!

+ Show Spoiler +Jiang Shang, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! PLEASE DON'T DIE! It was so awesome to have you join the team again! Ah Gou is going to go into unstoppable mode after this. White wall anyone? That's what my gut tells me. Doubt he'll use smelting aura for obvious reasons and dark cannon is strong but can be reflected back which is problematic. It has to be time for the upgrade of monochrome to the next level, Tian's level, white wall!
|
I like the times when Ah Gou needs/uses help. It's much better than many 1v1 fights (though the last 3 fights with the Generals were pretty awesome).

So many amazing chapters and what a reveal lol. + Show Spoiler +Interesting to see Ah Gou mention Tian's name. Glad to see that they keep him as the benchmark instead of just forgetting about him since he died. I do wonder if Ah Gou will ever take his monochrome attacks to the next level and use white wall. I await that day! I expect an amazing fight next chapter as they take on the nothingness! :D

This manga is so awesome. Can't wait to see what happened with the latest release. + Show Spoiler +Facing both the Gods and the kingdom of Zhou, what will Ah Gou do? Maybe this is meant to raise their morale? That and he has a year left so he probably wants to make sure he spends it with Bai Cai and repay her for her patience and such.

man, this latest chapter, so good. Getting chills just thinking about the current situation. This + Show Spoiler +war is going to be epic! I've missed the earlier chapter when Ah Gou fought the God way back. It was always nice to see some variety so I'm looking forward to that. Tian's son with the phoenix is back (likely)! I'm sure the uncle will be back as well, so will that lighting God that tried to get together with Bai Cai way back. We haven't heard much about him. My other suspicion is that the wandering God, forgot his name, will join them and help in their healing. Kind of like how he helped the God's way back in the battle in God's domain. With his healing and Ah Gou, his uncle, friend, Tian's son and the lighting God, they'll be able to hold off against the army (normal dark ones) and the 5 of them will be able to go up against the sage gods. Can't wait to see Ah Gou use his monochrome again and surprise them with his spirit! :D
|
Yeah, really nice chapter. Seems there's gonna be no downtime at all. + Show Spoiler +Cool to see the gods who helped Ah Gou again. You think Ah Gou will really die after a year?
|
Do we need to always use spoilers to talk about this manga? lol + Show Spoiler + I don't think Ah Gou is gonna die in a year, by that time he'll be strong enough to kick that ancient dark one's ass. Also I hope they do some explaining as to what happened to some of the characters during the time skip. Like the pheonix guy and wind sage god, I thought they were stuck floating in space lol.
Also, by wandering god you mean Zhen Chan? That dude is the classical monk god archetype, total badass, can't wait to see him go to work on those ancient god guys.
|
We're not sure the army of Zhou will attack the dark ones. They had to choose between assisting and attacking, both decisions requiring their army to move in that direction. Maybe humanity and dark ones will unite to fight the gods, gaining their freedom. Then probably the shit-eating prince will try to hit the dark ones in the back after the gods have been stopped.

Seems like we're back in action! :D + Show Spoiler +Loving the new chapters and developments. OMG Ah Lan is back! T.T I was just wondering about that the other day lol. Also, thunder god is back too! Wonder who the other gods are. I wasn't expecting the army of Zhou to help them tbh since it seemed like the prince said that they would use this opportunity to attack them or implied it but I probably misread the situation.
I am surprised by how resilient the army of Zhou has been against the ancient Gods. Ah Gou with that cannon being imba as fuck. Had a chuckle when the prince was talking about Ah Gou and his "crazy" proportions lol.

IIRC there's 180 chapters in total. less than a year to go! (Or if you can read chinese, you can just finish off the series for yourself instead of waiting 6-7 months for translations xD)
|
Isn't this 180 chapters only for the season 3? Meaning a whole lot of stuff til the end if that's the case.
+ Show Spoiler +Yeah, reinforcements are needed considering the horned gods are destroying everyone that isn't a named. And they are only the core part of the god army.

In the Chinese version, the manga is finished? or just the current season?

Season 3 is the last season, the manga is finished (it has been for some time now). There's a "happy ending" at the end. Sort of. I finished reading it around 8-9 months ago, so I forgot some of the details. But it's ended.

Some good background this chapter: + Show Spoiler +So, the God is going to fall huh? I hope they don't make Linlin get close to killing him but that he becomes weak at that exact moment so he's not able to deal the final blow to finish him. Feels like the author is going for a 1:1 death ratio (slightly more dark ones to start for number purposes). I would like to see how Ah Gou is dealing with that other nasty God lol.

Wow. I stopped reading this manga about a year or two ago 'cos I was getting sick of the main character whining about his bitch wife.
I open this thread expecting the usual BS you get in threads like Bleach and Fairy Tail about how garbage the manga has become - what a delightful surprise it is to see people still enthusiastic and pleased about it.

Well the main character is whining mainly when it's "peaceful". And that's a state that doesn't last long in Feng Shen Ji, so we just enjoy what's going on.

The dragon gods look stronger than sage kings but weaker than Tian. Interested to see how this will turn out. I don't even think Ah Gou can deal with the dragon gods, much less any Dark Ones or any smelting aura users.

Character development. Ah Gou was meant to be a little bastard in the beginning and then matured later.
This manga is a notch above those popular stupid mangas. Every page is in color, the art is beautiful, the action is amazing, main character isn't afraid to kill and be a bad guy, the other characters are interesting

Well Ah Gou managed to stand against Tian witht he power of all the dark ones, but it was way before he got his wtf op skills he has right now. The only people he had trouble with where the guys from the sky( don't remember their names) and as we see, random guys are anihilating the gods. So IMHO Ah Gou is strong enough to deal with the Old Gods without using dirty tricks

He may be able to fight the Old Gods without tricks, but he's Ah Gou, so he's gonna use them anyway!
|

I hope he uses tricks. It's what makes him deadly. He can stand toe to toe or close to them so that by itself makes him an extremely dangerous and strong opponent but what really elevates him about that is his trickery.

Especially when it makes his ennemies absolutely mad and they're losing their shit, commiting a lot of mistakes he's gonna abuse.

By Dirty Tricks I obviously means some deus ex machina that would make Old God half weaker or random BS like that. I'm all for Ah Gou' shenaniganery of course !
|
I used to think Ah Gou using a cannon / gun as his spirit weapon seems lame but it makes perfect sense. Ah Gou is an opportunist, he will take advantage of a superior weapon's range if it's to his benefit. His thinking represents breakthroughs and new ideals which is symbolized in gunpowder over swords.

I believe in a flashback, he explained that as well but don't remember which chapter.

I really can't imagine how the creators manage to get us 30 pages every week in color with such details and amazing arts when you know that lot of mangakas in Japan are working way past the usual 40h/week to get a black and white 20 pages a week.
|
TLADT24920 Posts
It costs more per chapter though, doesn't it? Maybe they have more workers then? It's a good question though.
|
I have no idea about the release rythm of Feng Shen Ji, but the manhua is finished, so that's why we're getting one chapter per week, No way it was drawn/written in one week otherwise.
|
I don't even think Ah Gou will fight against the dragon gods. There are still (at least) two strong fighters that have to get their part of the fight: his uncle and the phoenix dude. Ah Gou will probably fight the main vilain (6-eyes) that will reveal his true form that is actually stronger that the dragon gods.
Also, I think the dragon gods are weaker than what we expect because they don't have a real body.
PS : I suck with names in manhua

Chinese labor is probably much cheaper. Mangaka assistants and drawers are not costly in China probably
|
Even with a shit tons of assistants, you can't expect to release that amount of colored pages weekly, at best it was one every 15 days. Hell, for most american comics of similar graphics, you have less pages and it's once a month.

That red dragon god is probably the most ferocious / bloodthirsty god outta them all. Only other one that gave me this feel was Shi Xing's cursed form (he was always bloodthirsty) and the Red Warrior God (but he had a calm personality and wasn't bloodthirsty)

^ ya, he feels really bloodthirsty to me as well.
+ Show Spoiler +Zi Ya is back! Hype!!!!!!! That red dragon has no clue what he's up against. I'm so excited to see just what he will do and how far he's come since the last time he was with Ah Gou years back.

Finally the final player has arrived!

i dont think Zi Yu is gonna be able to do much against that red dragon. He didn't come close to beating Tian (even if we assume Tian is stronger than the red dragon). Maybe wound him, but he probably won't beat him.
|
If not Zi Yu, I can only see a reincarnated ErXing to beat him, and that's unlikely to happen... And since he's not the final boss, no Ah Gou either. So Zi Yu is my bet, maybe with some help.

Like, it's been over 5+ years since and if he can put up a fight against Tian, I don't see why he can't do the same (and much much more) against the red dragon seeing as he's been training for this. At this point in time, there's no doubt that Zi Yu will defeat the red dragon or at least damage him enough to be finished off by someone (maybe the king to raise morale?)

I understand he's strong but he lost against the buddha-god who was a sage king (the most powerful SK, but still).
Ancient Dragon Gods are supposed to be stronger than SKs. It just wouldn't be believable if he could beat the Red Dragon...they are from beginning of time. A human, no matter how hard he trains, beating 1?

It just wouldn't be believable if he could beat the Red Dragon...they are from beginning of time. A human, no matter how hard he trains, beating 1? But this was over 5 years ago, that's my point. He's had ample time to get prepared for this. If there's one thing that held true in the manga, it's that in several years, someone can come back much much stronger. Ah Gou came back from his spirit training which was three years and beat three dark ones (or was it two?) with limit break in a row to stay on as the ruler of the dark ones. His experience in the first war, mastery over his various powers and foresight have made him a deadly opponent but Zi Yu has all those traits. He's much more experienced, carefully reasons things out and yields a power that can be seen as being deadlier than most of what Ah Gou has (minus dark prison I think).
He was also stronger during Tian's reign, put up a good fight against the strongest God which even lead to Tian using white wall (or w/e its called) to actually beat him. I believe Tian even asked his name and respected his strength which says a lot imo. This was all five years ago which is a long ass time in the manga. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if Zi Yu trained intensely and in solitude since then to find a way to beat the older Gods, whether its through a new technique or a new sword like the one he used to slay Gods with etc...
For the buddha-god, thing is, Zi Yu broke out of his power so even though he lost, he also kinda won. I wouldn't be surprised if the buddha-god has kept him up to date on what's going on in the God's domain either and about the possibility of the older Gods coming back so even more reason to believe that he trained hard for this. Heck, look at how he casually approached the red dragon as if he's another low-level God. It doesn't say much and I'm likely overanalyzing it but it screams confidence. Either way, let's go Zi Yu! :D

It's getting more intense and I'm on the edge of my seat as well. Wonder how it'll end. + Show Spoiler +Yes, it is Tian's spear. My guess is that as his son, he inherited it or something. That or he called for it and it materialized due to his bloodline. At this point, I think the fight is going to be a lot closer than before if the yellow dragon hasn't been cut at the start of the next chapter.

I actually really like this yellow / golden dragon. He seems way more tolerant and cool than the red one that's going on a rampage. Wouldn't mind seeing the yellow one duke it out with the red one.

ya, the red one has bloodlust which is why he goes on rampages and killing everything lol. The yellow one seems more of the thinking type which explains + Show Spoiler +the offer he made in this chapter.

Loved it! + Show Spoiler +Shi Xing is such a boss. I can't see him taking down Shen Yen though after having exhausted everything but I also don't feel that he'll die yet either. Wonder if he'll be rescued by the recent prisoners who escaped. Also, wonder if we'll see a massacre of the dark ones' people seeing as the horned gods have come to attack ;; Lots of exciting developments and I also would love to know how he managed to get the blood spear. Did he inherit it due to Tian being his father? Does that mean it's his permanently now?

Finally started to read this a few days ago, after it has been on my "to read" list since forever.
The first chapters were a bit too "over the top" for my taste, still enjoyable tho. The following ones were just great :D
At chapter 20 for now, looking forward to more.

I found this series two weeks ago and I caught up with it just now. Has the series actually ended already and if so, how much is there left?

It's over and I think it's really close to the end, at maximum it should be around 15 more chapters.

nooooooooooooooooooo + Show Spoiler +she's gone! Sacrificed herself for a noble cause. I have to wonder what this new powerup of Ah Gou is though. He's faster or something due to the nothingless that's left in him? Seems a bit farfetched especially considering the potential mechanism for that, however, I do want to see him get back up on his feet and fight the remaining dragon god or even Shen Yen.

I'd say at least like 30

Resurrect dead waifu by enslaving humanity and making them dig out some crystals from deep inside the earth. When she was mistakenly stabbed by hoomans he just kinda gave up on everything, didn't he?
I just wonder how they're supposed to beat Tian. He wiped out both the dark ones and the whole ancient dragon race solo... I just don't know men

I thought Tian just gave up on living. He literally gave up staying alive as he felt he didn't have a purpose anymore.

Also as far as I understood it, Tian more or less fought each one on one, so as Ah Gou beat red dragon, he could be close in power.
Also considering that that they gave him a hard time before receiving multiple powerups (if that ever meant something), I could see this fight turning out to be interesting. Yi Zhu is still around, right? Same for monk SK. This might end in a 1v1 though, as Tian is as much of a final boss as one can wish for.
As weird as it sounds, I'm kinda hyped for rezz-no-jutsu.

He basically stayed alive mostly to help resurrect his close to dead wife with the crystals that he made the humans mine but once she got stabbed by Ah lan, well, she was dying for good now. Given, he did fight against Ah Gou and the dark ones before Shen Yen "killed" him so I wonder how he managed to come back. Also, what's his purpose in fighting now? Does he just want to settle a score with Ah Gou seeing as they never finished their fight?
Also, I've been wondering about it, but, could this be the battle that finally gets Ah Gou to push his monochrome powers to their max? True dark prison is good and all but white wall is where it's at. Imo, it's his only chance to beat Tian seeing as the difference between the two was large in their first encounter (Ah Gou used a ton of power from fellow dark ones to stay close to being even) and even though Ah Gou has gotten much stronger, I'm sure a difference still exists in their strength.
|
Yup, Tian is way too strong to beat, but Ah Gou taking the spear from him is not impossible. I can't believe Ah Gou said no to that offer. That's just not his character. His character is selfish and looking out for his best interest. He also avoids fights he has a huge disadvantage in. He knew Tian was untouchable. I guess his intelligence paid off by making that smart wager, but Ah Gou still should've taken that offer.
I find it hard to believe Tian is way stronger than the other ancient dragons. I mean, the red / yellow dragons were beasts.

I find it hard to believe Tian is way stronger than the other ancient dragons. I mean, the red / yellow dragons were beasts. hmm I wondered the same but I think he realizes that if he agrees, everyone will die including Bai Cai. We've seen him sacrifice his soul to be with her after she died way back so I'm sure that was a major contributor to his answer.
well, when you have a lot of other gods including those legendary dragons speak so highly of Tian, you know that something is up. Of course they are beasts but seeing as he defeated them all, he's a much much bigger beast than they are. Ah Gou would've definitely lost if he fought Tian so the wager wasn't a terrible idea. I like the way he tried to lead Tian into it lol.

He's the one kid of the dark ones that didn't commit suicide when found by the horned gods.
Loved the ending. One of my favorites, so I'm sad that there won't be more chapters. Of course, the actual manhua ended a while back, but I'm glad that the translations made it all the way through.

So was it ever explained how this one god was the son of Tian? You'll think that as a true son of Tian and a Dragon Goddess, he'll be a lot stronger without having a mantra curse and merging his life force with a pheonix to prop him up.

Is it really over? There's so much more the story can compound on. There's Ah Lan, Ah Gou's future, Sage Kings, Dark One's futures

Loved the remaining chapters and glad to see that they + Show Spoiler +didn't kill Ah Gou in the end. I mean, I would've accepted it but it would've made for a much sadder ending . Still, I'm sad that we won't get any more awesome battles or any more information. As the poster above stated, they could've definitely went much deeper in the story in certain parts but it could be that the author thought that it's best to stop now. Overall though, one of the most entertaining manhuas I've ever read and with a very satisfying ending no less.
As for the kid, I also wish we got more information on who he is. It could easily be Ah Gou's biological child or as mentioned, the remaining dark ones kid who was alive after the rest committed suicide. Thanks for the translators for doing an awesome job as well even if they don't read this and to all the posters who chimed in and gave their own thoughts as the story progressed.

Yeah, gotta be boring to be the most powerful being in the universe that can end the world as he wishes - he knows the living things are artifically made by him, and doesn't care much for interactions with mortals. If he took the Zi Yu path, where you just stealthed out and lived as a commoner, things will be more interesting for him. But then people will notice like, who the fuck is that dark monster-looking guy with 2 dragons coming outta his back?

It's obviously the son of Kong Que; the one who got kidnapped and presumably indoctrinated by Shen Yen. He seems to be at the remnants of the Crystal Mountain, holding a particular crystal which can be assumed to contain the transcendent vigor of Shen Yen/Pan Gu since he doesn't know the meaning of giving up. This could be setup for a s4 in the near future, or a new series contained within the FSJ universe.

But the evil witch/ah gou's aunt was the one who put the death curse on the son of Tian in the first place. You'll think that's she'll have a bit more interaction with someone who is her son. That said I do remember her being called by her father as a something to Tian but it seemed to be a figuritive, not literally. It just seems odd that there is no mother revealed if it isn't Tian's wife and that Tian gives no shit about his only son. It's just such an odd circumstance that I would had thought that he wasn't truly his son, but nope the other dragon god firmly establishes that he is indeed his son.

Dunno, Phoenix guy doesn't seem to harbor ill feelings for her, despite her being the source of the curse. Also we know that she's highly ambitious, so if Shen Yen commanded her to put a curse on phoenix guy she might actually do it, even if phoenix guy was her son. Imo their relationship at the end is somewhat peculiar anyways, they talk a lot about the curse and she decides not to lift it because she wishes for him to find a raison d'être. That's a pretty intrusive decision to make if you ask me.
@Phoenix guy-Tian-relationship: + Show Spoiler + Tian is pretty weird in regards to his son. He gives him blood spear vs yellow dragon, but then takes it back and doesn't mention him while talking about reshaping the world. Either the author didn't plan his revival two chapters before it happens, or Tian doesn't give a shit about him or he just assumes that Phoenix guy survives the reshaping.
