Spoilers abound. + Show Spoiler + Like really, what is the titans' motives? If they wanted to destroy the human population, they would been able to do so easily for quite a while (assumably many years before they actually kicked in the door on the first wall). And if they wanted to just destroy them why bother infiltrating them with human titans. Personally I find it hilarious no one says "hey guys, there's no hole in the wall and that village totally had no people in it, so it's not such a stretch of the imagination now when we know there's humans who can turn into titans that those titans were human initially." It's a rather small leap to take. But no one's really the rational thinker in that series. Oh and I so do not agree regarding the Gantz parallel drawn. They're not alike at all other than both series having a 'horror' element and contains stupid and irrational characters.

Do you guys think it would be best to read the manga or wait for the anime to come out later this year?

Always read the manga, because the anime won't be as good or better (though there exists a few exceptions I can't even think of at the moment — gintama perhaps? Definately a comedic series, atleast, due to humour translating/evolving when adapted into animation).

It's brutal and filled with a sense of despair, and the story so far it fairly interesting and misterious. (It's an atmospheric song, but the guitar starts at around 2 minutes or so if you want to skip the buildup)

have i mentioned i want to thank everyone who suggest manga to these threads? they are fucking awesome. you guys opened me up to noblesse, TOG, and now this. please continue with the suggestions, these are gems. i also read this in about 2 days, i might re-read it but as most i do agree that the continuous plot twists of new titans kinds randomly just cheapens the whole thing. i'm not sure if it's the lack of build up, but i can't see a reason to reveal so much in 1 setting if the whole story is based around the wall. it's going down a really quick path to end just like bleach did. 1. revealing that a society exist 2. showing the members with very little build up (amir's buildup was relatively none) compared to the long ass struggle of the main character and his build up. 3. and then throwing in the wall having titans in them. while i do think this enriched the chapters by 2 fold? it's too much too soon, if you also have other titans with intelligence attacking and so fourth, i don't see a place where this fits. i really don't sense a hopeless theme like most, while it is dark? i found battle royale far more hopeless along with gantz's early season. the way the antagonist is built up in battle royale makes him seem like a an evil demi-god because his IQ and capability for learning to kill was so high you couldn't possibly compete. whereas seeing the main character ocme out alive after getting swallowed, it's hard to feel he doesn't lack plot armor.

1. What society? The one inside the wall of a family who knows about the history of the titans and the ones in the wall? That there might be a community of human/titans somewhere outside the wall? The infiltrators in their midst? 3 inside a single squad. You'd wonder how much else there might be then. 2. The protoganist vs. low profile supporting character. There's bound to be a difference. Especially when splot twists are concerned. And why can't the "build up" happen later? See it as a character introduction, or being pushed to the forefront. 3. I disagree. I've touched upon it above, so you can probably figure out why I disagree.

I think that most of the other races have been killed by titans and the surviving ones were the ones that were near the walls. That had something to do with why Mikasa's family was killed didn't it? or one of the attackers mentioned that her race was rare or something? EDIT: I worded that badly, I meant that Mikasa's family was attacked /because/ her race was rare or something like that.

I'm guessing there's no dark-skinned race alive within the walls.
