Shingeki no Kyojin is a manga about the last survivors of the human race after a mysterious race of gigantic humanoids appears that feeds on humans.

Humanity has built walls around their last bastion, a layered city with the last survivors which is frequently attacked by the titans.

The story follows the desperate attempts of humanity to survive against an invincible opponent, with the Scouting legion being its last hope.

The manga is quite brutal and gory.

If you liked Berserk or Claymore then you'll probably love this manga. It's brutal and filled with a sense of despair, and the story so far it fairly interesting and misterious.

Also it makes a lot more sense than Claymore.

The story branched out to so many different characters. It gets hard to keep track when there's only a chapter a month. I've been following this manga from ch 1, and it's really good. The main point of the story seems to be the gradual discovery of the mystery behing titans.

This is good news. Definitely checking it out then! I like the concept.

Holy shit, just read the first chapter, and this manga is badass. Dayum.

Though I wonder why the titans didn't just immediately bust through the middle wall too. Could someone explain that? ><

I read the first thirteen chapters, now I'm hooked. The concept is really cool, and the characters are well developed.

Thanks for making a thread about this, this is the most entertaining manga I've ever read, although I don't know how much that means because I rarely read manga.

Manga is badass. I just hope it would have earlier chapters!

This is probably the most interesting manga currently running. It's got so much crazy intrigue and awesome plot twists and visceral combat and giant creepy monster things. IT rules.

was too rushed and not fleshed out enough. I still enjoy it, but a lot of the mystique has been lost, at least for me. The unflinching violence is always good, but I feel that the plot is starting to deviate towards standard fantasy/sci-fi affair. Perhaps it's just the pacing that's throwing me off. Anywho, I hope the author can prove me dead wrong.

The artwork and those cool effects kill the feel of Shingeki no Kyojin for me. It doesn't really bring out the horror of the titans, and the dark situation that the manga brings out. Maybe the real thing will have a different feel than a trailer with uplifting music.

The manga is very sombre, and hopelessness is a common theme. Hard to pull off in a anime, at least a traditional one. Rurouni Kenshin Ova did it pretty well though.

If you really liked this one, I would recommend Berserk and Claymore as well.

Makes me think of evangelion with all the "humanity fighting for their existence" and toying with things they don't understand.

that said, i agree the sudden jump into the titan conspiracy feels rushed, looking forward for the wall thing developement

Just read the whole thing, and while it really started nice and promising, I don't think it is that great anymore. My main point being: too many heavy plot twists happenings within too few time. The first few were refreshing and captivating. But reading to the latter volumes, the story and the whole setting just becomes more rushed and chaotic, it makes you wonder whether the author has a grand scheme in which direction the story is heading to.

Similar to the latest Naruto volumes, where first some twists happen, which roused a sense of anticipation of what will happen. Then alot of more twists follow, which turn the first few twists seemingly inconsequential, the twists in which you put so much of your hope in.

edit: or also similar to Claymore, where I also see no clear direction where the plot is heading, and where I sometimes get the impression, that the author wanders around aimlessly.

edit2: ofc all above is just my opinion. maybe I am also too stupid to see some grander scheme.
