How come neither of the russian were sick, since they have operated in that Jaeger a lot more time than Pentecost?
Also, did Pentecost ride solo at all times, or did his partner die? I got the idea that he used to pilot with Herc Hansen.
I recall that Cherno Alpha was actually ran using diesel generators locator at its "head". Cherno Alpha's cockpit is at the chest and that big helmet is actually where the generators are (From a design concept perspective).
Cherno Alpha is definitely nuclear, though. It may have diesel generators and such on it, but its main power source is a nuclear reactor. Anyway, I'll still assign this inconsistency with the change from it being a Mark 4 to a Mark 1.
They make knock-off film for blockbusters and put them in Video stores at the same time. Occasionally, they're actually better than what they are ripping off.
The reason the jaegers weren't walking gun platforms in the first place is because of the kaiju blood.
It was hard as hell to clean up, and made anyone who came into contact with it ill (see the people in Hong Kong, which is important). That's what the jaegers had arms and legs: they were supposed to stroll out into the shallows, beat the kaiju to death with blunt trauma, and only use things like the plasma cannon or sword as a last resort.
Notice China, a country that doesn't give much of a damn about the environment, is the only country that uses a mech that is based around cutting weapons. They also have an apparently large amount of the populace infected with the Kaiju Blue.

I think Australia's Striker Eureka is the only jaeger that has weapons to reduce the amount of kaiju blood. According to the prequel comics, it is stated that
In turn, they're backed a pair of twin retractable Assault Mount 3.25 "Sting-Blades" laced with carbon nanotubes that channel thermal energy at temperatures over three hundred degrees Fahrenheit, wounding and cauterizing Kaiju in close combat.
Loved the movie but the end fight was kinda disappointing. I mean it was really just the two jeagars hobbling around everywhere and one kaiju going full retard. I get that its a category 5 and it should not be some sort of cake walk but i kinda wish the jeagars put up some sort of a fight for that other then what they did.

Striker Eureka was owning that Kaiju when it asked for help from its buddies I would have wanted to see more action from Eureka though, rather than just a + Show Spoiler +

honestly i didn't hate this movie. the entire purpose of the plot was to facilitate more robots and monsters knocking into each other, and it seemed to do this shamelessly. was amusing honestly.
i just went to see that film. all i expected were great special effects, a not so important story and that´s it. guess what: that´s exactly what i got! so there really is nothing to complain about
GDT announces that in Pacific Rim 2 there will be a "Jager/Kaiju hybrid." By using the information from the drift and Gipsy Danger being in their realm, the aliens will create a hybrid creature to fight with.
A copy/paste of a question in my post on page 39 that I'm genuinely wondering about:
With regards to Elba's original final plan, can somebody explain to me how it was supposed to work? From what I understand, they were simply planning on getting the Aussie jaeger to put a nuke inside of the portal, correct? And this was supposed to be his new revolutionary idea? They mention earlier in the movie that they tried nuking the portal but it didn't work, and we're supposed to believe that in ten years of conflict they never thought about putting a nuke inside the portal rather than on the surface? What?!

I think the plan was to time it such that they carry the nuke in when a Kaiju comes out, thus opening the "door" for them. At least, thats how I figured it with the mathematician trying to predict when they will emerge and such.

They said that their theory was that the increased frequency and number of Kaiju meant that the portal was stabilizing and would stay open rather than closing after each attack.
I enjoyed the movie. Not the greatest plot or story line or anything, but it was a visual special effects masterpiece if you see it IMAX 3D.
