I look forward to Book 4
+ Show Spoiler +There's still the issue of the Earth Kingdom under disarray. Wouldn't surprise me if the Dai Li are the next major villains where they establish order that draws parallelism to Soviet Russia. A former kingdom that'll attempt to take back Republic City while Korra is still in a weakened state.

Solid all around and a good set up for next season. Also, they didn't kill off the villain, so they can bring him back if they want. Of course we know Korra is going to recover at some point, but it gives the series to good spot to focus on some other characters. Plus the return of the Avatar will be a fun episode.
+ Show Spoiler +Zaheer will most likely have his bending taken away. The way I see it, he'll make a cameo, but he won't play a major part.
I think the Red Lotus will serve as a looming threat in the beginning of Book 4, and then the plot will move on to something else.
I like the Dai Li idea.
@Fi0na It didn't bother me, no worries. Wasn't being aggressive at all. I just wanted to express my opinion

It even has a Great Wall to go with it.
Mako definitely had more potent lightning this time around. In S1, a straight shot only wounded Amon, while in TLA Azula's lightning was strong enough to kill Avatar State Aang. I wonder if there will be new firebending abilities? Since S2 was the water tribes and S3 was the Earth Kingdom, S4 will probably be partly in the Fire Nation.
Giving Bolin lava instead of metal? Nice choice I guess, definitely adds a pretty unique aspect to it.
Avatar in general has been pretty explicit about death, so I'm going to guess that the other two Red Lotus benders survived. Why else keep Zaheer alive?

I actually was half-expecting them to do something tragic to Korra. It ends well, but it has a bitter touch to it - you feel how broken Korra is. I think they're doing the groundwork for the last season, what with Korra losing hope/strength and an entire nation vowing to live by her duty.
My guess is: eventually, it'll lead to all the nations doing so, and the Avatar will no longer be needed.
Those fights were really kick-ass though. I especially loved Mako vs. Ming-Hua, and how it ended with her biggest strength being her downfall.
Once again, Jinora comes to help Korra at the last minute though. Maybe it should be called The Legend of Jinora xD.
All and all, I absolutely loved it. It had its weaknesses, what with Korra being saved the way she was and all, but it was the strongest episode of Avatar to date. At least in my opinion. Which makes it more of a shame that its scheduling was absolutely botched by Nick. + Show Spoiler +I think if you're right that the next season will be them moving toward not needing an avatar, the ending actually is very strong with the way Jinora and the airbenders saved Korra because it shows that the world doesn't NEED the avatar to save them from the big bad guy. Even mostly novice airbenders, when working together, can save the world. I think that, if that really is the direction they are headed (which I think is a very good possibility that you're right), then I think that will be the lasting impact of this episode, not that Korra got saved. That ordinary people can matter too in the grand scheme of things.

I liked this season better than the previous two.
+ Show Spoiler +The last two episodes had some epic bending fights. I really liked how clever Mako and Suyin were in their fights vs Ming-Hua and P'Li, respectively. I wasn't sure why Mako didn't lightning bend when fighting Ming-Hua in the first place, but I suppose it did give the fight some dramatic buildup. I thought Beifong vs P'Li fight would end with someone pulling a Bolin (a piece of rock or metal hitting P'Li straight in the forehead); but Suyin converting her breastplate into a face mask, right as P'Li started her explosion, was the highlight of the episode for me. The Zaheer-Korra fight was really entertaining too. Zaheer's evasive fighting vs. Korra's rage enduced force was like yin vs yang.
While I would have preferred a darker ending to this season, I can live with the one given. I suppose I am ok with Korra living, because she didn't get out of the situation unharmed (I am not a fan of superman plot armor). I am even ok with Zaheer keeping Tenzin alive. I think Zaheer could have done the same trap with either of Tenzin's siblings (as they were both out of it), but I suppose it let the show still be a kids show and give Zaheer reason behind his moves. However, I was not ok with Jinora knowing that the poison afflicting Korra was metal. If I recall correctly, no one mentioned that it was a metal. Jinora probably didn't even know that the Red Lotus member was a metal bender. The poison could have very well been a liquid, but she seems to somehow know it was a metal. All that aside, the season was enjoyable. I hope Zaheer returns next season, as he was an interesting antagonist.
O and I strongly agree with TTT regarding Guru Laghima and Zaheer's maneuverability.
On August 23 2014 01:29 TwoToneTerran wrote:Yeah there's a clear difference between what Zaheer was doing -- floating and maneuvering around with no motions or actions -- and what firebenders do where they propel themselves super hard in specific directions. The maneuverability alone is a great difference. That was a good build up of the constant mentioning of Guru Laghima, though. + Show Spoiler +Once Zaheer lost his last earthly tie with P'li's death, he could finally become wind.
I can't wait for the next season!

loved this season. not too much love life drama and just straight up great story and new awesome places in the world of Avatar like the metal bender clan.
I am really looking forward to the next season

just wondering if anyone else had the idea that asami+korra could happen? at least from asami's side i've been wondering a few times this season, altho korra probably goes back to mako

+ Show Spoiler +Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced this is where they are heading. For example, Zaheer's line "Korra, the last Avatar" is heavy foreshadowing to me. One can even read between the lines and extrapolate further (and go somewhat crackpot) to say the title gives it away. You know, The Legend of Korra, the last Avatar. Anyway... I do think Ming-Hua and Ghazan are dead. Avatar isn't always explicit on deaths, think Jet for instance. Also, Avatar's wiki says Zaheer is the last surviving member of the "elite group".
I really do hope we won't have to wait too long for Book 4. They put the bar really high there.
And also, wishful thinking, but perhaps they'll do a spin-off on Wan? It's been discussed on this very forum back when Book 2 was airing, and I'm sure they've certainly considered it themselves. It could depict Wan's entire life, I'm sure there would be plenty of material, and it would give them a great opportunity to give a lot more background to the story.

Dear lord did they pull out all the stops for this season. After a frankly mediocre first season (though it ended strong) seasons 2 and 3 have been outstanding. The last half of season 3 is some of the best work in the entire Avatar series. I literally just finished the last episode and I'm just blown away by how great it all was and how no one really came away unscathed.

They did a nice job at the end of the season giving Korra a challenge to overcome for the next season. They are doing a really good job of giving an all powerful character like the Avatar things to overcome. But next season I do want to see some straight up Avatar ass kicking.
Also, the "armor trick" was one of the most well shot things I have seen in the series. They cut away at the exact right moment and your brain fills in the rest. It was one of the more shocking moments that made me say "Get rekted".

Holy shit this ending is so sick, you saw what i did there didn´t you? Looking so forward to the next book!

+ Show Spoiler +The ultimate form of airbending being perfect flight was cool and all, but the astrophysicist in me really wanted it to be light bending. Think of how awesome all the illusions would have been T_T.

Holy shit the show got so dark so quickly. No wonder it doesn't air on TV anymore.

Insane ending. Can't believe they did some of the things they did + Show Spoiler +killing off 3 of the red lotus members and the ending was kind of sad.
Looking forward to season 4 :D

So Jinora looks a looooot like Aang. I hope Kai is into androgyny.
And I'm glad Korra's a cripple now. Maybe not walking will help soothe her temper/ego.

Really? Where is it released now?

Internet? I mean, I've always watched it there, but I was under the impression it didn't air on TV anymore (since mid season iirc).

in last airbender there were several scenes with female airbenders that had long hair and only the front part of the arrow was shaved

Given that the Avatar has existed for all of 10,000 years, it's actually quite amazing that no one managed to kill the Avatar State Avatar, not even once.
