(though + Show Spoiler +Lin having a sister throws off all the fanfic I've read... ) I'm really enjoying the bending scenes; they're really well choreographed! The Metal Clan seems pretty awesome (and oh man I can't wait for backstory about Toph's family!) And Zaheer et. al. seem pretty interesting; I wonder what their motivations are. Still, one thing I can't get over: where are all the spirits outside Republic City??? (Shouldn't there be at least some at the poles? Why are there none in the Earth Kingdom?)
Yeah I care more about toph's family and how toph was in the past.
This season is really good though, a lot better then the other 2 and I enjoyed the other 2 seasons a lot as well.

This is so far miles better than the first 2 seasons! Toph's family is actually pretty interesting.

For some reason i find kai extremely annoying and just shitty, im also finding jinora to be super convenient at every turn which is also bugging me. But damn those bad guys are amazing as well as the slight hopes of toph/backstory niceeee kinda werid how it like implied toph slept around with different dudes... idk toph will also the exact image from TLA to me

It seems I have a bunch of stuff to catch up to. I still haven't caught the season two finale. D:

Anybody else kinda hope Lin never gets over her issues with her sister?
I'm just worried its gonna be some cheesy make-up moment that somehow undoes ~20 years of disagreement, because I don't see how they can do it well in the ~7 episodes we have left this season.

To be honest that fits tophs character imo. I could totally see her doing that.

I agree. I can see if a major plot event happens that gets them to trust each other, but I sincerely hope Lin won't just up and join the family. She seems really deeply scarred.

Is it just me or does P'Li/Sparky Sparky Boom Girl look enormous standing next to Ming-Hua.

probably really big boned and muscly like the sparky sparky boom man zuko was pretty tiny next to him

Like it much more than the previous two seasons so far. Bending's better too.

I don't think I need a spoiler anymore. I'm confused why the two daughters of Toph have Yin and Beifong as last names. I can understand if they're from different fathers but one uses the maiden name and one uses the father's name. I assume perhaps Toph's first husband left or something so they used the Beifong name instead.

Toph never got married. So she is beifong (note that lin and su had different fathers who they did not know). Su is married and took the last name yin.

Caught up to Episode 5. The fight scenes..... my goodness I miss this.

what? I think Suyin is her first name lol
not many people have last names in the Avatar universe; moreover, (1) she doesn't know who her dad is, and (2) the Beifong family is super-important/rich/whatever, so she just took her mom's
also in Chinese culture married women don't take their husbands' last names

I'm actually enjoying this season so far but it's doing the classic avatar thing where it has 0 sense of scale.
Edit You guys think that Zaheer is another of Aang's children It would explain his inexplicable mastery of the air element and why he's seen as such a threat and possibly why he wanted to kidnap korra. Maybe Aang took his bending and he got it back during convergence?

seems more likely that Zaheer was an Air Acolyte at some point? ... but yeah, Kya did recognize him very suddenly... hmm
|
I don't think it's possible for zaheer with his attitude and views to have been a son of aang and ketara, especially with how we've already delved into their family's past last season. It's more likely aang somehow wronged him and his 3 companions in some way, although it's still unclear what it might be. He's definitely knowledgeable about air bending, so it's possible he used to be an air acolyte, as we know he wouldn't be an air bender (aang was the last one, after all, and tenzin and his children were the only new ones until harmonic convergence).
As for the beifong's, i'm really liking their story so far. To me with how Suyin is acting, she's definitely the one guilty of wronging lin, and most probably is the reason she has that scar on her face. The writers seem to like going into detail on how people get their scars, and after the whole zuko + ozai scar thing, I'm sure they'll do the same plot where family caused the scar.
As for surnames, I'm not sure if everyone in the avatar world actually has one... However, the Earth Kingdom is based off China, and Chinese had a lot different customs than traditional western customs when it came to surnames. For example, women do not drop their surname upon marriage, so Suyin would still be Suyin Beifong.
