I completely agree with Mordiford about the drama surrounding Asami/Mako/Korra. It is, at this point, entirely Mako's fault. I was fine with Mako/Korra in the beginning, but Mako hasn't done much recently to affirm Korra's interest in him. His overprotectiveness at the end of episode 9 was a step in the right direction, but I'm afraid I've begun to agree with Mako's critics to a certain extent. There's still just not a lot to his character. As of now, my opinion is that Korra deserves better, but I'm hopeful that Mako will eventually man the f*** up and deal with his situation. Morale is important, kid.

^ Mako sucks. Boring guy. Only time I thought he was cool was when he redirected lightning today.

Mako finally redirecting that electricity was cool too. And come to think of it did Bolin say a single word this episode? Yea, he said like "Car! watch out! Okay we're cool" lol Oh yeah. ALso 'MOUSTACHE GUY!'
But yeah, what could they do? THey could spiderman over like Lin and rape shit. Or maybe catch their cannonballs which are metal and throw themb ack! That'd be neat. Although I guess it isnt fair to expect that.

He also yelled "moustache guy!" before Naga jumped.

+ Show Spoiler +Anyone else kind of wish Tenzin's bison came in and rescued him? I know Korra and the gang saving him was awesome, but I just wished there was a bit of that Aang-Appa dynamic going.

So if we ever see Zuko talking to Iroh it's going to be a dialogue between himself.

I can't help but feel that the season is too rushed! The dialogue is so one-dimensional and straight forward. No feelings. Like when Tenzin was getting put into the Equalist truck, after Asami just knocks everyone down, he's like "Thanks, I'm fine now." Then just straight up goes and starts fighting again like he couldn't do it seconds ago.
Also the characters acting too dumb and too much fan service. Like Lin against Metal Airships, she's supposed to be a badass and not get caught. Or Tenzin...can't he create a fucking gust of wind and just do something while someone flies the bison? A lack of common sense of the characters throughout the season is starting to irritate me.

Although I completely 100% agree with you on the BIson thing. Anyone can fucking fly one. In fact you probably dont even have to hold the reigns and it'll just go straight. Tenzin could have and should have done SOMETHING. :/

Sorry but Tenzin's one-liner and going back into the fight was just too casual for me :\ I know I'll get some flack for this one but how about that scene with Lin and Tenzin's kids? Those equalists must have been not trained at all. Some equalists could take down Lin/Korra/Tenzin, yet these kids who are obviously not as powerful as the ones I previously mentioned managed to just pummel through a huge ass group of them. Fart bending was funny, but the huge gap between the intense seriousness of the situation and then a sudden comedic input of epic trolls made me shudder.

I dunno. You didn't like it so theres nothing I can do to convince you otherwise. I just think it's silly for that situation... IMO thats exactly what should have happened after he got up. Then again, as a goddamn master wind bender I didn't really expect him to lose. Well I did, but he shouldn' thave. His element is all about dodging shit, and those mechs are just way too slow to hit him.
As for the kids going baller-mode. The most realstic thing would be Jinora coming in like she did with her suprise attack and then Lin going back to beating everyone. Jinora doing stuff is believable... I mean, Aang was 12. The other two was a bit silly. But one can argue: - the element of suprise - they dindt want to fight children that are like 6/8/10 (Jinora's 10, made the other two up) - Equalists fighting is all based on their speed and agility and dodging attacks. Airbending happens to also be about speed and agility and avoiding attacks, and their attacks are all AoE so you can't really dodge them.
And then after they kicked ass for a few seconds and provided the distraction they did, everyone else could have come in and finished the job.
It's not that far-fetched. I mean, they're top top 4 airbenders IN THE WORLD! It's more believable than these super mega badass benders getting owned every episode. -.-
EDIT: It's likely that he's a grandson. Zuko was I think 4 years older than Aang. Tenzin is definitely older than Iroh, and Tenzin is Aang's youngest son.
Also LOL that Meelo .gif. :D

In an interesting twist, it could also be his nephew. Is there any confirmation that Azula never had kids or anything like that? I think it'd be quite ironic if the roles between Zuko and Iroh are switched xD.

Mako is constantly concerned about the present. He didn't want to get with Korra because of the tournament. Given the choice that probably would have resolved itself afterwards if Asami wasn't written. But she was and an 18 year old guy is put in a position where two women are throwing themselves at him and he doesn't know what he wants. He did recognize, that on principal, he is with Asami and tried to leave it at that.
However, the situation is constantly being forced in his face. He doesn't want to deal with it now. There are more important things to take care of. Korra's capture is plot mechanic to force his hand. He is forced to develop in ways people expected him to earlier while they ignore the establishment of his character.
While I feel for Asami, she is complicating the big picture around them because she became overly attached. Mako wants to have a clear head so he can figure things out. In the middle of a war isn't exactly the best time to soul search.

RUFI--OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO + Show Spoiler +sucks that lin lost her bending, what will be the future of metal benders? also wtf Meelo and his epic fart-bending i couldn't stop laughing. Dante Basco voicing general Iroh the younger is nerd chill inducing indeed.
also i think it's worth mentioning that part of the reason the children were able to beat off the equalists while Lin was not is that the equalists are only trained to deal with non-air benders. the airbender children would naturally have an advantage in that sense, where the enemy isn't prepared to deal with this kind of bending, one that is harder to dodge and makes your target harder to hit. if you think back to Aangs time, how many benders did he beat with just airbending? and back then he was biologically only 12-- so i think it's within the realm of possibility.
|
The one part of the episode that I didn't like was the battle between the air-kids and the equalists. It did seem plausible that the children would win (due to the element of surprise, them being very good airbenders, and the most important fact of them being children, which would be sure to mess with anyone's motivation to fight) but I disliked the fight in general due to the stupid one-liners and my general hate of Meelo.

Korra isn't even close to throwing herself at him. She even specifically told Mako to stick to and help Asami work through this ordeal. Mako is a dense, bland douchebag who is socially inept to the situation. He's the only bad part of this show to me.
Her whole world is shot and when she's not fighting, her relationship with Mako and friendship with Korra and Bolin is all she has in the world -- which is why they specifically showed us her being friendly with Korra in a sincere way. She doesn't hate Korra for Mako being a bonehead and Korra isn't making any attempts to steal him away from her. Mako is messing up the situation, not Asami.
