Guy Peirce as well (the guy from memento) I've been following this movie for years now and sadly it seems to be the consensus that this movie is NOT going to be part of the Aliens franchise. This was originally written to be the prequel to Alien, explaining the origin of the space jockeys and the weyland-yutani corporation, and featuring a larger, more massive variant of the alien that would spawn from the space jockeys. However, due to disagreements between Scott and the studio over issues such as budget, use of violence/gore, and changes to the cannon (Scott's story would break the tie in with the AvP movies) it was decided that key elements of the story would be re-written so that this movie would no longer have any connection to the franchise. Supposedly it IS the same story he wrote, but they made slight changes to the monsters to differentiate them from Alien, changed the name of the evil corporation that rules the universe, etc... However there is ALSO a theory that none of this is true, it actually is going to be an Alien movie, and all these rumors about whether or not it would be part of the franchise are just a publicity stunt to generate hype and help distance the movie from the negative stigma generated by alien 3, 4, and the AvP movies. Either way, it does look like this movie will be fantastic on its own merit. Whether or not it will bring long over due redemption to my favorite movie franchise/fantasy universe of all time remains to be seen. | ||
