I watched it in 3D last night and for me it was definitely worth it. Unlike other movies the 3D isn't overdone, and it acts as it should, adding depth to the picture instead of just random gimmicky objects flying at your face.
As for the movie, it was good. I thoroughly enjoyed it, apart from the ending. I was enjoying the movie and then bam, suddenly the ending came in a very rushed manner. Other than that I thought the acting was great, especially that of Noomi Rapace(Elizabeth Shaw) which was very genuine and pretty much flawless.Unlike Ripley she has a more feminine side at the beginning, but then grows tougher as the movie advances, while still remaining endearing and delicate enough that the extremely shocking things she must endure are genuinely heartbreaking.

Totally uninteresting characters, none of which is explored in any kind of depth except the lead role which was one of the most boring characters to begin with. It is just a big mess but I hope there will be a directors cut since there is a ton of stuff they could have (and probably already have but it got cut) expanded on but everything just gets dropped in loose ends. My only positives in this movie is the setting is beautiful, the effects are cool, best use of 3D I've seen in a while and Fassbender is total boss. Otherwise the movie is disappointing which is sad because I saw a ton of potential.
Totally berates movie, and in particular characters, compliments one awesome "boss" character. K. Just making sure I got that right.
Just saw it... it was solid and enjoyable, but the script really lets it down. Contrivances upon contrivances.. it's basically just a shitty script saved by a great director and amazing visuals - helped greatly by material it's based on. + Show Spoiler +
I mean, why does every team of scientists in hollywood movies have to be a bunch of idiots stumbling through ancient archaeology or be badasses who will disregard protocol at every opportunity. How much cooler and more scary would the movie have been if the horror unfolded despite the crew sticking to protocol, instead of largely because of it?
But, like I said, Scott pulled it through and made it very watchable and worth seeing. The opening scene is amazing and mysterious. I basically have no idea what really happened in that scene - but it was still amazing (although the zoom-inside-body/DNA shot was a bit of a cliche) And Rapace did a much better job than I expected as well. Fassenbender is no Ian Holm, but still solid (though predictable)
Here's a review by Kermode.. I agree with most of his points:

It really is a silly mess of a film.
Sorry I don't share your level of pesimism. I'v enjoyed almost every movie I've gone to in the last 3years.
So you expect to enjoy this film, because you have enjoyed almost every film you have been to see in the last 3 years?
Please tell me how that makes any sort of sense. Oh, wait. I take that back. I think you will really like Prometheus. 8^D
Just saying that I usually enjoy most movies, even some that most people suck. It just seems everyone hates on every movie that comes out constantly and I don't understand it I guess since I thoroughly enjoy every movie I've had an idea about before I went to see it. I guess you can say I pick good movies based on my tastes and Prometheus is gonna rank up there from what I've seen.

Well now, we'll have to take this info with a pinch of salt. IMDB - 8.3/10 based on ~5500 reviews. RT - 80% staff (40 reviews), 97% audience (~38000 ratings).
So far it seems that the movie might be a blast. Especially that I actually do enjoy the fact that Scott wanted to disjoint it from the Alien franchise a bit.
I think you could categorically state that the script/pacing of the film is very bad. It is almost undeniable. How much this will effect your viewing depends on your sensitivity to such matters.
I would love to talk about this more, but it would involve spoilers.
How this film is getting 80% I do not know. Maybe if enough people will themselves into seeing what they want to see, they will see it. That is my only explanation.

Isn't that what anyone's opinions of it truly are? Simply willing yourself into seeing something you want to see. You practically go into a movie with a pre-conceived notion and not much is gonna change that unless it's some truly godly groundbreaking film.

Now i really want to see the movie, you made me curious.
anyone else tired of mass trailers basically giving you the whole story of the movie before you even see it? The very first trailer was great. It didn't tell you massively what was going on. Then came about 3-4 others... each giving more and more info on the story and action that was going to happen till basically I probably can call the whole movie without even seeing it in full.
Why does everyone hype everything so much? Why don't they take all that energy and money and put it into making a quality movie?

The masses like anything with pretty pictures and large explosions that they are told to watch by all the hype. Doesn't mean the masses know what a good movie is. The masses used to think the earth was flat and that mercury was a medicine.
Just because the masses like something or say it to be so doesn't actually mean it.

Not necessarly. I went to see this movie, curiously exited, and hoping it would be good. I had been anticipating it for the last few months.

it's really not that bad. Avengers has a 90-something rating on rottentomatoes, and Prometheus' script isn't any more random, nonsensical or messy than Avengers (it's still a bad script though - but this is Hollywood, after all) And Prometheus is a much more visually striking movie than Avengers.. the reason people are shitting on it is because it's not living up to the specific expectations of Alien fans and Scott-as-sci-fi-director fans. That doesn't mean you need a lobotomy to enjoy this film.

kind of, although it's difficult to explain without spoilering. Basically there's a lot of "proto-alien" stuff going around.. things that resemble what we know, but needs to evolve more to get from here to there. Also, I think it might be important that this movie is more concerned with Scott's Alien than the universe/morphology/whatever of Aliens or the other Alien movies. But as someone who loves all the mythology surrounding the Space Jockey, I was very happy with most of what this movie turned out to be.
Fuck, this movie was amazing! I have read some of the comments on it, and i cannot understand most of the critizism!
I was basicly in awe in my seat when i saw the enviroments! They were so well made, and so grand in scale! For some reason, the fact that they basicly spent the entire movie building up to the things was awesome!! To be honest i have actually never been so locked to my seat in pure excitement and eiriness. It just felt so mystical, because no one knew shit of what was excpecting them!! The ending was ok. I don't know much about the alien lore, although i love the movies, to say anything particular about it!
The things i didn't like though was the characters! Most of them seemed only to be on the ship to portray stereotypes and to utter action cliche phrases, such as "betting". The nerdy guy, and the "though", but not brave guy.
I was basicly sitting through the movie hoping they would die + Show Spoiler +
which most of them did anyways :D
And i guess that is not a very good thing.
Also i didn't like the cross/christianity thing at all! I really hope that had some symbolism to it other than "hey, you can't disprove it, so im believing it, + Show Spoiler +
because when you basicly meet the ones that made you on another planet it doesn't really disprove a god. BUT the christian bible and faith kind of loses it relevance!
All in all... A fucking awesome movie. Really because it was one of the few movies that made me ignore my hatred for the character just because it was so good otherwise.
And it was one of the extremely few movies that i have watched, where i simply do not want it to stop because of the enjoyment i am feeling!!
