Zecora and the potion are about the worst plot device I've seen. I get it - Zecora got out of the woods because of the forest.. but the potion? Really? Like, how convenient is it that Zecora knows how to make a potion that only alicorns can use and that it shows what happened in the past? Too much if you ask me.
Also, when they find the tree of harmony, Celestia mentions(and its a pretty important mention) that the tree can stop any kind of malicious growth as long as it has magic. This helps Twilight realize that the tree is what stops the evil-vine to grow.
However, it's pretty obvious that Celestia and Luna didn't know about the evil-vine when they get the elements, as Discord plants it after they get the elements. What kind of future telling is that?! How would she know that the tree would stop things from growing specifically?!
And at last, why didn't Celestia bother restauring the Tree's energy during the 1000 years? Like, bring the elements back, wait 900~ years or so, take them again...
I enjoyed new hoers. I have a feeling the marelesters will be all over certain aspects of it. It's also one of the first episodes with a standard sitcom structure, except it's in three acts instead of two. I think it's the work of a new writer, too. Today was a good day.
For about half of the episode I was convinced they were going to find out what the box was, and I was rather displeased about that. Glad it didn't happen. Interesting about the shadow pony though. The way they ended that makes it seem like that might be this season's antagonist.

Nah, it's a standard kids show thing. There's claim of a ghost or something that they run from, turns out there is a logical explanation, then right before the credits, the audience sees a real ghost go "MWUAHHAAHAH" or something just for fun.
This episode was really interesting, mainly due to the implications it has for the rest of the series; it seems MLP might be moving away from one-shots into a more plot-oriented type thing. Should be pretty interesting if the subplots (Most Daring Pony, shadow pony) make an appearance in later episodes, since they're definitely left wide open.

if they do indeed start moving towards bigger plots the show might suffer a bit. not sure though. it depends on how good the plot is, but given the actual target audience it's hard to get a great plot going. good things about MLP in the past, at least for me, were the life lessons as well as the funny/cute stuff you'd see.
:/ sometimes i don't understand why I watch, then again it's not like it matters why i do
that said, even if a plot weren't introduced you could still very well get same shit that made mlp good before so i guess it's not that big a deal. especially since the first seaons still had plot; it was just really stretched out
