Well I just got back from the MLP event in LA today. The actual show was fantastic. The first 40 min. or so consisted of the cast reading through a script, since Tabitha wasn't there they got a member of the audience to fill in (who was a guy, no surprise!). He actually did a really good job and got a few great laughs with his impersonation. Meghan McCarthy read all of the interludes and everything else was performed live. After the end the guy who sat in for Rarity got a gift bag full of goodies (I saw a mighty fine bag, the friendship express DvD, some toy set, and a copy of the script they used signed by the cast present). Yes, the audience did sing The Heart Carol at the end.
After that was finished, they played the actual episode for everyone (the moderator also encouraged the audience to be loud). So , of course, the entire audience sang the MLP intro and there was absurd applause throughout the whole thing, complete with another group singing of The Heart Carol at the end. Unfortunately there was no Q&A at the end, so I just went straight to the signing.
We managed to snag a parking space right outside of the Gallery, and Tara Strong and Meghan McCarthy parked directly behind us! There were probably 500+ people there, and they only let ~200 people in to get stuff signed. Unfortunately.....I was 204, which was SUPER depressing. I was literally one foot from getting in. I thought the staff running the event were kind of rude at this point when they were addressing the crowd saying they cut off the line (the old guy in particular, if you see any of the pictures). So I , and 300 people behind me, came out empty handed. Well, not entirely, they did hand out blind bag toys to the people who didn't get in, though I still left feeling really bitter. The VAs seemed to be on the side of the crowd, when the staff went in to say they cut off the line, all 5 of them looked out with a concerned look on their face. When they left they didn't sign anything (can't really blame them, if they signed one persons stuff they would probably be swarmed). But Ashleigh Ball stayed out for a while and took a bunch of pictures of the fans. They all kind of had a disappointed look on their face when they exited into their van.
I'm still glad I went, even though I didn't get anything signed, hopefully they will be back in LA eventually and I can give it another shot!
Also, before they actually started letting people in, they closed off the shop. My dad and my brother just walked right into the place (having not known it had been closed) And apparently all the VAs were already in there setting up, they also thought that they were part of the staff, and I bet they could have gotten away with it too! But they were too nice and decided to leave anyway (probably would have been caught eventually).

Ah the event sounds really cool i'm jealous I could not go, I'd have LOVED to attempt a Rarity impersonation on stage with the VAs

That is really too bad about not being able to enter the gallery though such an opportunity missed, I can completely understand your disappointment, the VAs too no doubt since it can be hard to leave anyone disappointed.
I'm glad the mareathon went well, I had originally intended to show my face but i'd have only been able to appear for a short time and i'd rather have not just seen what I was missing, but these sorts of events really help bring the community closer together so thanks for organising it those involved.
