And that's very sweet, until you realize they were the only ones for her to base anything on, and inspired by the muse of being hired to do it. I fully appreciate her professional work on the show, but the G1 abominations don't deserve credit by mere virtue of association. Managing to make gold out of crap doesn't automatically mean the crap was ever good. It just means you're really fucking good at it.
MLP FIM as a community have produced a significant amount of fan fiction and fan comics and have themselves even created stories around minor background characters, most notably, Derpy or Ditzy Doo. This doesn't make the show good, nor does it make the show bad, just because kids had to create their own "stories." Inspiration comes in various forms G1 was successful enough to spawn several reincarnations.

It's called rhetorics. If that's the way you handle opposing arguments, maybe you should just stick to subjects with less than two sides.
Would've expected more of TL.
I don't know what's funnier, labeling your arguments as rhetoric, or accusing Camail of being incapable of argumentation. Like, seriously, I don't see the point of getting so worked up about the quality of G1. It's like getting worked up about the quality of Star Wars Prequel trilogy. Or forum trolls. And you weren't exactly making new responses either. You more or less reiterated why you thought G1 was crap without adding anything new to the discussion. How is anybody supposed to respond to someone that just says the same things to a new argument. And furthermore, do you have any evidence behind your claims? You responded so far by making one rather belligerent claim to counter the counter argument without any real evidence before launching into a spiel about how crappy G1 MLP was.
Also, off topic, but FnF, why does it seem like the only time you post in this thread is to respond to, or make an argument? Like, in all honesty, dude, you need to chill out. From responding to the trolls to arguing about G1, all you seem to do in this thread is argue. Take a chill pill, love and tolerate, watch the show, enjoy its fandom. Friendship is magic, all that good stuff.
I don't know FnF, I think if Gen 1 was completely worthless Faust would have dropped it entirely, as she says she did with Strawberry Shortcake and Barbie. This is, of course, assuming that no one was actively forcing her to play with MLP instead of those other things.
And derivative works shouldn't be used as indicator that the source material is worthless. That would be to assume that pretty much everything in existence is worthless. I'd posit that inspiration comes from a delicate balance between an something that's interesting enough to capture and hold our attention, while being too flawed or too incomplete to leave us with a feeling of satisfaction. Gen 1, while nowhere near what you'd call "good," was at least interesting enough with its fantastical and mythological elements to keep Faust's imagination, while the other aspects of the show were too weak for her to accept as head-canon, so she made her own. Strawberry Shortcake and Barbie, lacking the mythology and fantasy, were both uninteresting and flawed beyond repair, so she dropped them.
'Course, that's just my thinking. And again, I'm not arguing that gen 1 was anything near gen 4 (you can't really even compare them), but I think "worthless" is a little too strong a descriptor for it.
Yay, EU qualifier \o/ If I had more time I'd try to switch to Terran, because this tournament seems very zerg dominated. There is however no time, so sorry all, here comes another zerg.
My friend's not going to make it (she has to go save British orphans from dastardly mustachio'd villains or some lame-ass shit like that), and I'm on third shift schedule, meaning I'll most likely only catch the tail end of it.
Well, this will be a short one. We wanted to try and do this every week, but because of the Mare-athon, I do not think we will have an organized drawfest this week. Instead, I encourage you all to watch the marathon instead!
We will still be having drawing, but it will be less organized. Since people wanted earlier times, I would say that we will start at 2 pm Mountain Time/ 4 pm Eastern Standard Time/ 10 pm Central Europe Time/ 5:30 am saurab time. So if you plan on drawing, come by then! I don't know if Saurab will have a lesson for us, but we may hold off on that as well for the mare-athon.
2) tredc 3) 852 4)Pick a favourite pony, do we really...oh wait...How about some whining instead? Okay I'll go with Pinkie Pie this time. 5) Zerg 6) posting ponies is good but picking favourites, no thanks.
Well I just got back from the MLP event in LA today. The actual show was fantastic. The first 40 min. or so consisted of the cast reading through a script, since Tabitha wasn't there they got a member of the audience to fill in (who was a guy, no surprise!). He actually did a really good job and got a few great laughs with his impersonation. Meghan McCarthy read all of the interludes and everything else was performed live. After the end the guy who sat in for Rarity got a gift bag full of goodies (I saw a mighty fine bag, the friendship express DvD, some toy set, and a copy of the script they used signed by the cast present). Yes, the audience did sing The Heart Carol at the end.
After that was finished, they played the actual episode for everyone (the moderator also encouraged the audience to be loud). So , of course, the entire audience sang the MLP intro and there was absurd applause throughout the whole thing, complete with another group singing of The Heart Carol at the end. Unfortunately there was no Q&A at the end, so I just went straight to the signing.
We managed to snag a parking space right outside of the Gallery, and Tara Strong and Meghan McCarthy parked directly behind us! There were probably 500+ people there, and they only let ~200 people in to get stuff signed. Unfortunately.....I was 204, which was SUPER depressing. I was literally one foot from getting in. I thought the staff running the event were kind of rude at this point when they were addressing the crowd saying they cut off the line (the old guy in particular, if you see any of the pictures). So I , and 300 people behind me, came out empty handed. Well, not entirely, they did hand out blind bag toys to the people who didn't get in, though I still left feeling really bitter. The VAs seemed to be on the side of the crowd, when the staff went in to say they cut off the line, all 5 of them looked out with a concerned look on their face. When they left they didn't sign anything (can't really blame them, if they signed one persons stuff they would probably be swarmed). But Ashleigh Ball stayed out for a while and took a bunch of pictures of the fans. They all kind of had a disappointed look on their face when they exited into their van.
I'm still glad I went, even though I didn't get anything signed, hopefully they will be back in LA eventually and I can give it another shot!
Also, before they actually started letting people in, they closed off the shop. My dad and my brother just walked right into the place (having not known it had been closed) And apparently all the VAs were already in there setting up, they also thought that they were part of the staff, and I bet they could have gotten away with it too! But they were too nice and decided to leave anyway (probably would have been caught eventually).
Thanks to all that attended the Mare-A-Thon! There were a couple of small hitches on my end (started randomly dropping frames like mad early on, then, during the intermission, my sound decided to get fubar'd, so I had to restart my PC), but those only accounted for about 15 minutes' worth of delays.
Ended up falling asleep during the intermission between S1 and 2. >_> To make up for that, here's John de Lancie having been infected by Tara Strong's madness.
