If she was a spy, it wouldn't be out of character for Roose to kill her just to tie up loose ends. For all we know, even as a spy, she has no idea what is about to happen and she or Robb Stark would probably announce that they have an heir on the way.

Robb, despite his actual standing and relative importance as King of the North and a major figure in the ongoing war, has been portrayed quite blandly, to the point where he's much more of a throwaway character than Ned ever was. He didn't really stand out as a character even during his major successes, and I think that neither the actor nor the show as a whole have done his character justice (certainly not to the point where people would go mental when he gets offed).

Replacing Jeyne with some random foreign chick was also a bizarre decision that contributed to the whole "meh" feel of Robb's arc.

Edit: holy shit for a moment I thought I might have mis-posted in the non-spoiler thread. Scary shit.

This is pure book elitism. Other than Show Robb being a complete and utter moron by marrying Talisa compared to book Robb having a legitimate reason, they are essentially the same. All of book Robb's main scenes are in the show

Also the cast is considerably large this season so everyone has had less scenes compared to the much tighter first season

I have managed to get at least two non-bookers to watch the Red Wedding with. One of them knows Robb is supposed to die at some point but not how or when, the other knows nothing. I am so looking forward to see their faces when it happens.

I've got one non-reader myself, I've told him that this episode will feature the biggest event in GoT but apart from that he has no clue.

I've got one. I just said "the most awesome and compelling moment of the book series will happen tonight". I stand by this. There's thousands of dumb fantasy stories where the adolescent boy gets the sword of whatever, saves the world, and gets the girl at the end. ASOIAF is good precisely because it breaks this predictable mould and throws real strife and tragedy at the sympathetic characters.

Two more days. Those poor sods.

I'm wondering whether the internet outrage from the Red Wedding will match that from Ned's death in season 1.

I don't think it will genuinely match it.

It will probably be way more over-hyped though.

red wedding is way more emotionally devastating than ned stark dying. i know people who literally had to put the book down and walk outside because it was too upsetting.

Yes, it absolutely was. We only had a few hundred pages to get to know Ned, and his death wasn't a literal genocide of every one of the "good guys". I guess in the books we had a lot more time to bond with Robb's homies that we didn't get in the show, however. RW also blindsided me harder. Like Ned's thing always felt like a minute possibility. Once Robb ate at the Frey's I was like okay cool let's get this wedding going and go conquer the Lannisters herp derp.

I was also emotionally devastated that Arya wouldn't be able to re-unite with her family after being so tantalizingly close. Yeah, it sucked realizing that Ned wouldn't get to be with Jon, but Jon was a big boy with lots of friends at the wall already. Arya's a kid and is completely isolated; her re-uniting with family members would have meant a lot more but it was cruelly snatched away just the same.

Another red wedding lead-up "HAHAHAHA": Kwark's post in the other thread is perfect. I'd been thinking something appropriately Robb promoting was needed, as long as it wasn't deemed too hinting of a spoiler.

I've been waiting to hear how they start to introduce The Rains of Castamere during the wedding. I really, really, love that song and I can't wait to see it in its best environment (slaughters). Also this:

oh yes.. :D
some of my non book friends complained about the slow season start, they will be absolutely devastated after the next episode.

i really hope that the show can recreate the same feeling i had when i finished the last RW chapter. i literally sat down for a moment and could not believe that GRRM finished off two of the main characters in such a brutal and unforgettable way. for me this was also the peak of the whole series. i think beside some chapters that the RW chapters were one of the most memorable of the whole series. it has to be an absolute slaughter.

i'm so hyped lol.

I skipped over the red wedding chapter on accident (Chap52, i think?). i started to grow super super angry at Cat's chapters and I was like "FUCK, another Cat chapter -> Skip to Dany ->". Then, my friend who got me into the series called me a few hours later and was like "SO?" and I had no idea what he was talking about 8D

I feel the same. I will be majorly disappointed if the RW is not up to the book standards. I raged and raged for like 3 days after that, almost wanted to stop reading it was so brutal. But I am glad I continued, it was such an excellent book! Also, Rains of Castermere has been stuck in my head for so long, it is a painfully sad song, I sing it whenever I am down (which doesn't help the situation LOL)

Well in a way it doesn't matter that much how well they execute this episode, they haven't built up Robb or Catelyn this season at all in a likeable way. They've kind of just sat around doing nothing but being frustrated/sad about everything that's going wrong..the war, losing the north/family, Catelyn's betrayal. I think most viewers are just not going to care very much, it won't be anything like the effect Ned's death had on viewers. Now they're used to plenty of characters dying as well..They may see it as a blessing for more screen time for the characters they love, like Tyrion/Dany/Jaime..

That would be such an injustice. I remember reading this part and just needing a breather to gather my thoughts afterwards. Would be a huge shame if it isn't as intense on the show.

From reading this thread it seems like many book readers would only dislike that because they would like see the tears of others. I am so annoyed by that attitude, I am almost looking forward to see the tears of book readers if this doesnt thappen.

And I hate the trolls like Kwark who make these posts "Go Robb! Wohoo! (lololol)" in the non-spoiler thread. If you know the story you should just stfu there.
Its at the point where people are only trolling each other in that thread.

The scenes directly involving Robb are the same, or rather even more in the show than in the book, but in the book you would hear about Robb and his war success a lot more through other characters. In the book you get the picture of Robb winning battle after battle, his enemies praising his tactics etc, which is the kind of build up that really made the Red Wedding more painful.

Isn't Kwark an admin though? I wouldn't say it's stupid, i'd say its bold (like getting banned for not posting a spoiler lol)

I SWEAR, book readers will get spoiled eventually by show watchers because Dan and David will surpass GURRM eventually -- and they know how the story is going to end, so i think that the book readers will have a 'Winter is Coming" moment when they will end up being spoiled by show watchers, lol.

I think for me Cat getting her throat slit was the most chilling part of the red wedding. In the TV series she has had some great scenes and is a much more "likeable" character than Robb, so when her throat gets slit I think that will be the most harrowing moment. Also curious to see if they will show the wolf head sewed onto Robb's body or if they will just allude to it like in the books.

I think the episode will end with Cat's last moment and E10 will start with her body being dumped in the river and the "wolfking" will be in the background. D & D won't hold back.
