I can imagine people who didn't read the books looking at Ned as more or less the protagonist of the whole show and someone viewers identify with. Robb, despite his actual standing and relative importance as King of the North and a major figure in the ongoing war, has been portrayed quite blandly, to the point where he's much more of a throwaway character than Ned ever was. He didn't really stand out as a character even during his major successes, and I think that neither the actor nor the show as a whole have done his character justice (certainly not to the point where people would go mental when he gets offed). Replacing Jeyne with some random foreign chick was also a bizarre decision that contributed to the whole "meh" feel of Robb's arc. Edit: holy shit for a moment I thought I might have mis-posted in the non-spoiler thread. Scary shit. This is pure book elitism. Other than Show Robb being a complete and utter moron by marrying Talisa compared to book Robb having a legitimate reason, they are essentially the same. All of book Robb's main scenes are in the show Also the cast is considerably large this season so everyone has had less scenes compared to the much tighter first season

I just said "the most awesome and compelling moment of the book series will happen tonight". I stand by this. There's thousands of dumb fantasy stories where the adolescent boy gets the sword of whatever, saves the world, and gets the girl at the end. ASOIAF is good precisely because it breaks this predictable mould and throws real strife and tragedy at the sympathetic characters.

Yes, it absolutely was. We only had a few hundred pages to get to know Ned, and his death wasn't a literal genocide of every one of the "good guys". I guess in the books we had a lot more time to bond with Robb's homies that we didn't get in the show, however. RW also blindsided me harder. Like Ned's thing always felt like a minute possibility. Once Robb ate at the Frey's I was like okay cool let's get this wedding going and go conquer the Lannisters herp derp. I was also emotionally devastated that Arya wouldn't be able to re-unite with her family after being so tantalizingly close. Yeah, it sucked realizing that Ned wouldn't get to be with Jon, but Jon was a big boy with lots of friends at the wall already. Arya's a kid and is completely isolated; her re-uniting with family members would have meant a lot more but it was cruelly snatched away just the same.

Then, my friend who got me into the series called me a few hours later and was like "SO?" and I had no idea what he was talking about 8D

I will be majorly disappointed if the RW is not up to the book standards. I raged and raged for like 3 days after that, almost wanted to stop reading it was so brutal. But I am glad I continued, it was such an excellent book! Also, Rains of Castermere has been stuck in my head for so long, it is a painfully sad song, I sing it whenever I am down (which doesn't help the situation LOL) Also : [/QUOTE] I've been waiting to hear how they start to introduce The Rains of Castamere during the wedding. I really, really, love that song and I can't wait to see it in its best environment (slaughters). Also this: + Show Spoiler + ![]() Made me laugh. That Mackklemore Robb was so good!

They've kind of just sat around doing nothing but being frustrated/sad about everything that's going wrong..the war, losing the north/family, Catelyn's betrayal. I think most viewers are just not going to care very much, it won't be anything like the effect Ned's death had on viewers. Now they're used to plenty of characters dying as well..They may see it as a blessing for more screen time for the characters they love, like Tyrion/Dany/Jaime.. That would be such an injustice. I remember reading this part and just needing a breather to gather my thoughts afterwards. Would be a huge shame if it isn't as intense on the show.

I am so annoyed by that attitude, I am almost looking forward to see the tears of book readers if this doesnt thappen. And I hate the trolls like Kwark who make these posts "Go Robb! Wohoo! (lololol)" in the non-spoiler thread. If you know the story you should just stfu there. Its at the point where people are only trolling each other in that thread.

In the book you get the picture of Robb winning battle after battle, his enemies praising his tactics etc, which is the kind of build up that really made the Red Wedding more painful.

I wouldn't say it's stupid, i'd say its bold (like getting banned for not posting a spoiler lol) I SWEAR, book readers will get spoiled eventually by show watchers because Dan and David will surpass GURRM eventually -- and they know how the story is going to end, so i think that the book readers will have a 'Winter is Coming" moment when they will end up being spoiled by show watchers, lol.

In the TV series she has had some great scenes and is a much more "likeable" character than Robb, so when her throat gets slit I think that will be the most harrowing moment. Also curious to see if they will show the wolf head sewed onto Robb's body or if they will just allude to it like in the books. I think the episode will end with Cat's last moment and E10 will start with her body being dumped in the river and the "wolfking" will be in the background. D & D won't hold back.
