Murdering the Karstark guy and some of his council meetings have been pretty good dialogue. Excited for him maybe taking Casterly Rock that'll be big. Two more days. Those poor sods. ![]()

Yea but I don't think they've built it up as well as it was built up in the books. I'm just skeptical about them being able to pull it off true to the books because it seems like there are so many ways they can fuck it up and they're already behind as far as the build-up goes.

Robb, despite his actual standing and relative importance as King of the North and a major figure in the ongoing war, has been portrayed quite blandly, to the point where he's much more of a throwaway character than Ned ever was. He didn't really stand out as a character even during his major successes, and I think that neither the actor nor the show as a whole have done his character justice (certainly not to the point where people would go mental when he gets offed). Replacing Jeyne with some random foreign chick was also a bizarre decision that contributed to the whole "meh" feel of Robb's arc. Edit: holy shit for a moment I thought I might have mis-posted in the non-spoiler thread. Scary shit.

And yeah the whole Jeyne replacement is the oddest decision of the entire series for me.

Then Robb/Catelyn gets butchered when Arya is literally at the doorstep of the castle and in one fell swoop, the Starks are completely broken, all hope of the good guys prevailing is gone, the bad guys (Lannisters) have won and are now the biggest power in the Westeros. Ned's death doesn't even come close.

As opposed to a random domestic chick? Book Jeyne is about as bland and boring as it gets. And it was really hard to understand why Robb threw everything away for her.

it always, even in the books, came to me, that MR. Martin just needed a reason for Robb to break his vow to get his story developed. No son of Eddard of House Stark would ever break a vow!

I had to read it like 5 times to get a grasp on what the hell just happened. After the shock was gone though I was kind of glad he was gone, same with Cat. More time for better characters like Tyrion... 10 years later in book 5. And yeah the whole Jeyne replacement is the oddest decision of the entire series for me. I wasn't a big fan of Robb overall either, but at the point when his campaign was on the upswing and he broke Lannister armies several times and captured Jaime, it was easy to imagine him as "the hero". In the show he just wears the same bland face most of the time, and his "badass" moments were never really on display. It just seemed like they emphasized his mistakes and failures a lot more than his accomplishments earlier on, thus foreshadowing his demise more so than the books did in my opinion (and making him even less likeable in general). As for Jeyne, her actual character doesn't matter either way. But there is a significant difference between the daugher of an old Lannister-aligned house with holdings on the doorstep of Casterly Rock, and a literal nobody. It just gives the whole romance plot more weight and general symbolism. She might not have been the most appropriate match for a King, but she was at least in the same league.
