Martin said he would finish TWOW in three years optimistically, and that was said in 2011, equaling 2014. But knowing GRRM-time, I'm estimating more around mid 2015 to possibly 2016 because Martin said there would always be the possibility of being unable to finish in the desired time-frame.
The most alarming thing he said in a recent interview, i think with Wic.net, that whenever he has to travel or handle something else somewhere, it's hard to come back, and it takes a couple of days of not really progressing to get "in the zone" when he can write a lot.
And looking at his scheduele, which i dont really have, but last year alone he visited at least a dozen countries, not to count US states, made at least 100 booksignings, readings, talkshows and shit, plus his involvement with the show, plus his fucktone of other random projects that now have a lot of attention because of his name... So as i said, 2015 is almost wishing for too much.
I mean it took 6 fckin years for ADWD and a good chunk of that was written at the moment AFFC was published, and only in the last maybe 2 years of that period did he get all the attention and busy scheduele i was talking about earlier.
Yeah...I honestly have the feeling it won't be before 2017-2018. He has a crazy busy schedule and it isn't slowing down anytime soon. And in interviews he is kind of saying that he is making little to no progress. I wish he would draw the lines of the story, let ghost writers write it down then review it. I think it would be a good way to speed up the process without losing too much in quality.
He has always worked like that. I once read that if he has to do anything else than writting in a day, that day he does not write at all. So if he has an appointment with the dentist from 4 to 5, he just doesn't write.
But on the other hand, if we were as rich as he might be, I doubt many of us would continue writting at all.

im sure that's not true. Pleasure and accomplishment in life isnt measured in money. I dont think he got into writing cuz he wanted to be rich, nor would i, or anyone really go down that path then say, mission accomplished now i have x million dollar, time to retire. Goodbye everything i worked on and built up

I agree, I remember reading that there are two things that motivate us: sexual desires and the desire to be important/great, his books are what gives him the sense of importance.
Looking at the show thread I can't help but make the observation that the show watchers are all Sansa and the readers are Sandor right now. Everyone is happy to see a new season. The show watchers have this light-hearted 'kid at christmas' joy about it while the readers are more along the lines of a smug/schadenfreude fuelled "Yes, fun....more blood, more dreams destroyed. Killing IS the sweetest thing there is."
I really hope they do not make the red wedding too obvious. Must outdo reactions to Ned's death.

So they are doing the red wedding this season? cool, i cant wait to see everyone depressed and mad as fuck
The only way they can "hide" the RW is by having the whole riverrun sequence happen very early in the season and maybe even cut the greywind warnings. I honestly think almost everyone knows what is going to happen anyway.
I'm curious on how they are going to change Loras, the actor already said it is very different from the book.
I'm pretty sure RW was confirmed for this season, with Joffrey's wedding likely taking place in the next season. Hope it's done well, because it is one of the things I'm anticipating the most of this season, just to see everyone's reaction .
I really hope this season doesn't deviate as much as the second book. I know stuff has to be cut and edited for TV (lack of inner thoughts and monologues, as well as budget reasons for battles and such), but some of the changes in the last season seemed so pointless. The Jon/Ygritte thing, Talisa, Dany changes seemed rather idiotic, not to mention the fact that Littlefinger's character was butchered. The Arya changes with Tywin were very nice though.
Maybe its because of those that I'm actually not all that excited for this coming season quite yet, I really hope it surprises me for the better.

Wikipedia has the episode titles for all of season 3. Episode 9 is titled "The Rains of Castamere". I can't imagine that not being the RW. Also, episode 7 is titled "The Bear and the Maiden Fair", so I guess we know when the bear fight is happening too. Also also, tsk tsk at TheToaster. I'm not going to get all high and mighty and say I don't pirate things, but it's frowned upon on TL.
I feel like the part where Dany inspects the Unsullied was a bit too rushed though. It's a really fun part in the books and it's just not as cool in the show. The viewers don't even know Dany understands what the Wise Master is saying.
Happy that Selmy appeared. No Strong Belwas but he's a pretty useless character so I don't really care.
EDIT : Btw did I miss something or is Loras not in the Kingsguard ? Guess that solves the Loras - Sansa problem.
Does it bug anyone else that they made it so sam did not get the birds off at the battle of the fist? Its a small thing but in the book thats the start of sam becoming a man and not a bitch.

G.R.R. said that the RW will be in the last episode.
