Note: Skrillex does have some non-dubstep songs too. From First to Last was one of my favorite bands back in high school. Edit: One of FFTL's hit songs ((I always thought this one was good, just not their best, but it was one of their most popular and they always played it at concerts))

How do you guys get used to the awkward timings compared to regular music? What do you mean when you say awkward timings? The wobble part/bassline of dubstep tends to feature a lot of n-tuplets and syncopated rhythms. The technical explanation isn't important, but basically it comes down to playing N number of notes or 'wubs' in the time that you'd otherwise play 1 note. In other words: playing something with X beats even though it sounds like it should have Y. Most of a typical wobble pattern is composed of a combination of different n-tuplets (both different 'N' and different base note length). In the case of quarter triplets (the most common), N = 3. You would play 4*3=12 notes now instead of the 4 you would otherwise - this results in a 3/4th or "Waltz" sound, even though the rest of the song still sounds like 4/4th ("Normal"). The above is a variation where it makes the notes go faster than a normal 4/4th quarters bar, but you could also do half-note quintuplets: 5 notes in the time of one normal half note ("2 counts"). This is a more complex version of the same principle, which would result in a 'slower' and 'awkward' feel - 10 notes per bar, which is not easily divisible by 3, 4 or 8 as we're used to and as such, the rhythm becomes harder to 'feel'. -- Note that this is nothing new under the sun. Use of complex rhythms like these dates back as far as African/Indian tribal music and is used extensively in for example rock, metal and other progressive styles. Even your typical pop song is bound to feature these rhythmic devices at some point and you'll be hard pressed to find any half decent drum track that doesn't use them. The difference in dubstep is that using them in the bassline - which is arguably 90% of a dubstep track - makes them a lot more prominent and they dominate the overall feel of the track a lot more. For people who are unaccustomed to the rhythms this creates (it's easy to ignore them in most music), dubstep can sound awkward - you can genuinely not get a good sense of the tempo of the song or how to dance/listen to it. edit: Another factor can be how dubstep reverses a popular music 'rule' in that the bass/melody can be a lot faster than the drum beat. These two are normally somewhat equal in 'speed feel', or in the case of styles like DnB, the drums are a lot faster than the melody/bass. This can also create awkwardness in that if you try to dance to just the bassdrum and snare hits (like normally), you'll be moving very slowly and that can feel wrong.
