Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |

- The rate they were filling the pit was faster than they could kill them - The longer they wait the more they will have to deal with
It basically came down to "we need to get rid of them all at once", and the safest way was to just direct the horde to avoid them.

I think it does. Even if it doesn't destroy the brain for some reason, it would still burn the limbs and immobilize them. They could just McGyver a flamethrower of some kind, climb on the trucks blocking the stone pit and fire away safely. Luring them away could still serve as a backup plan if something goes wrong, or if the bodies pile up so high that the zombies can climb out.

Fire not killing them was shown a few times.

As it turns out, a person isn't made out of paper and doesn't combust into a pile of ashes after 3 minutes. In some cases it might cook the brain or incapacitate them, but:
a) A lot of them are going to be basically unharmed b) Until then, they are still walking at you in a mass and are now ZOMBIES ON FIRE JESUS CHRIST

Yeah, about the only thing I can think of that's worse than getting eaten alive by a zombie is getting eaten alive by an on-fire zombie!

Wall them in and set them on fire. It's dumb that fire doesn't kill, but that comes with the whole zombie biology of walking dead. Still even if fire doesn't kill all of them and only a few it still puts them into a more manageable state where they have no limbs so they can't grab, walk slowly or have to crawl.
Why is fire zombies being treated as a bad idea when the base idea of redirecting zombies is best case scenario still unleashing them in the area near where they live. There is no way they can control the path of the walkers outside of their local area because they risk running into walkers in front of them and then will be unable to escape safely behind them. The walker horde can't be both a horde and easily distracted for long, eventually it will disperse due to random noise and even visuals.

A couple of caged steam rollers and some straight road would probably be one of the more efficient ways to dispose of a zombie horde. Assuming they didn't have that on standby though.

I must be in the minority here since I didn't really like that episode, but that to me was more of a function of the editing. Would have been better served writing it as one even rather than a pointless flash back
The pit is also apparently right near town. If that truck went down (as it did), it lets loose 10,000 zombies in their back yard. Obviously leading them away is a very risky plan, but the alternative was wait for the inevitable collapse, or for them to start trickling through, one catches the attention of the horde, and they all come.

Would have been better served writing it as one even rather than a pointless flash back I thought so too at first and I still kind of agree that they should've done it straight up, but in that case I think it would've been harder to keep the enigmatic vibe about what the hell they're even doing. For half the episode you don't really know what their plan is. Kept me curious but not that interested.
The other way to do it would've been the annoying thing where they cutoff before the plan starts to be explained. Many shows did this... reminds me of that cheesy soap, The Mentalist, where he purposefully keeps his law enforcement team in the dark, not because it makes sense but because the dumb audience shouldn't know what's going on.
So they had two cheesy ways to keep the audience puzzled. They chose weird black and white bits to mesh the two seasons together gradually. Not a fan.

Okay small annoyance. It's a post apocalypse world so why does the car that Abraham and Sasha are in have it's blinkers on...
|
That actually makes sense as they're trying to draw the walkers attention. Though if anything they should just honk every once in a while.
|
Except the flares, Daryl and the car itself were drawing them.

While the plan was pretty interesting if not stupid having Ron running around doing stupid shit, I like the fact it showed how ties were being built or repaired. Especially Rick and Carter, and Glenn and Nick. While Rick and Deanna's "power struggle" was pretty evident by the way the last season ended it's still nice to see how they interact with one another and especially how Morgan and Daryl influence Rick(I feel like those two along with Michonne are the only ones stopping Rick from going full Shane on everyone),
I also expected Carol, Carl, and Maggie to have overall bigger roles in this episode.

You're forgetting that most are already decomposing.

Was asking myself the same thing but then I realized: Its too risky. With such a huge amount of zombies theres a good chance that some of them are ninja or teleporting zombies. Also, retardism (getting grabbed by a zombie although he walks dead slowly towards you out of a store and you are waiting for him with a gun ) has to be calculated in. So they would end up losing too many unimportant side characters.
|
Why don't the characters just wear thick clothing that zombies can't bite through? Because it would ruin the show that's why.
Letting those zombies out was a retarded idea in the first place. Roll over some cars or build a fence around that giant ditch and you will never have a zombie problem. You can even fill it up with water if you're really scared of zombies leaving. The thing will turn into mud and the zombies won't be able to swim up.

More importantly why aren't the making shields, and looting police stations for Riot Gear etc. AMC that's why, the execs who to cut back costs prefer cheap make up jobs which are evident in the past episode.
And if I remember someone said that the characters in the comics use shields.
Another debate: Roman Legions vs Zombies on this show. Who wins?

I liked the episode, even though I still think that Rick's character development should have kept him a bit "softer"/more compassionate than what we're seeing now.
I also thought that their plan was poorly thought-out, and that it looked like they could have both consolidated the barriers preventing the zombies from getting out and killed some of them to thin out the herd a bit. It would have been useful to keep it there as a magnet to attract other zombies, all the while keeping a close eye on them to make sure the barriers don't break down.
I really wanted Rick's plan to work, though... If only things had gone well for once :-D

I honestly just want some Eugene and Alexandria filler before you know who, I'm going to be pissed if they skip over how Eugene becoming one of Rick's and the Towns most trusted friends.

Erm, you're not supposed to discuss things from the books without spoiler tags, StealthBlue... :-)
