Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |
This thing is so popular that we started watching it nightly - right now we are somewhere in Season 2 and we are essentially continuing just to make fun it. How the hell this got such a following? The premise has a great potential and it could have been really epic, if only it was done completely differently. The main characters are useless idiots for most of the time, they almost never do anything right and they choice of actions is so dubious that it completely invalidated the plot, because every problem they are facing is more of the "if they only weren't so stupid" over and over again. Also there would be so much to show in the world turned upside down when the destruction has likely planet-wide dimensions, yet we are watching a handful of irrelevant people who are alive by a random selection that somehow prefers the biggest weirdos imaginable. This choice of purposefully controversial characters makes sense for a reality show, but it really doesn't make for a relatable set of heroes in a long series.
And then there are the "small-scale" relations of the characters that are completely unbelievable: Rick joins the group and becomes the alpha male from day 1 - wtf?; the thing with women doing the laundry for example was completely silly - or is this set in 1960? Then those same people, who have been acting like complete savages get to the farm and suddenly the old guy is the boss and nobody even thinks of showing him that the times have changed? It's just inconsistency upon inconsistency for the sake of having a plot. I understand that the line between "they are going good it's boring" and "everybody dies" is pretty thin in this kind of setting, but come on, it has been done before with much more success.
But the greatest flaw is obviously how absurdly slow the pace of the plot is, there are entire episodes where the only change is that some people move from one place to another.

That's an unusual statement about a TV series In that case, I'll give it a show.

this was a much better episode as far as pacing and editing. this felt like it had a real director vs a kid who figured out just learned abou b&w flashback scenes.
I generally enjoy the moral dilemmas the show presents, but having Morgan refuse to kill people as the attacks are chaining and slaughtering his friends was absolutely stupid. That's the kind of dumb lazy writing you jam in there to create conflict.

morgan must be really fucked up from something that happened to him. takes his time to tie up a wolf while his group and community are being slaughtered around him... then lets them go and they take a gun.
carol is such a beast at this point damn

Great episode, even without Rick or Daryl. Carol is really carrying the show too. Morgan is annoying, I hope he changes soon.

Something tells me Morgan is going to be forced soon to kill or let someone else (someone good) die. Hopefully they'll do that right.
Also, I'm a little worried about the one with the gun in the armory. Still a chance she'll blow the brains out of someone by accident when they open the door.
And that mom got lucky that the one Wolf that got into her house wasn't wielding a weapon like all the others and then calmly walked over to get the gun whereas the rest are all going Firefly-Reaver like on people.
As for the walker horde, given that the horn was shut down and we haven't seen anyone else I think the most logical outcome is that they were able to get the horde to move back on to the road using weapons fire once the horn was silenced. Otherwise I think we would've seen them entering Alexandria already.

I want a montage of Morgan teaching the Priest how to fight with a staff set to "I'll Make a Man Out Of You". The priest seems like he wants to learn to fight, and maybe he'll be inspired after watching Morgan.

+ Show Spoiler +So that girl is one of them and ran away? There was a letter A on a house, which I wasn't sure what it ment.

Whatever happened to the negro with the sword?
That scene where Morgan was taking on five guys was so cheesy it was like a bad kung fu movie. It really turns the show into an action/martial arts genre which I really don't like seeing in TWD. Same goes for the samurai sword. It just doesn't belong in this sort of series - imagine seeing dumb shit like that in World War Z. It just turns something trying to be realistic into something with elements of fantasy.

At least this weeks episode was better than the garbage from last week

Anybody else see the new 'doctor' Denise (Zoey from Nurse Jackie) and were like....what?
Seven seasons as a nurse in a dark/comedy/drama series, and now they put her as a doc/medic/nurse type in TWD? She won a best supporting actress Emmy for it.
Good for her but I can't get her past being Zoey.

Whatever happened to the negro with the sword?
Did I fall down and land in 1970?
Funny thing is most people would be useless with a gun anyway, especially a pistol. A legit Samurai sword would probably be one of the best weapons.
What's fantasy are all the headshots, not to mention the ammo.

it's a thing, gotta give the characters signature weapons.
tyreese = hammer. daryl = crossbow. michonne = katana. rick = colt. sasha = sniper rifle.
