Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |

And there are other things like the arm falling off the truck, they waste like 20 seconds of air time picking up a fucking arm. The way they did it you thought it was gonna be like some b-horror flick where the thing just grabbed Andrea and she starts streaming and shooting it. Lots of poor decisions but there are definitely moments worth watching and remember out there, and that's why I'm still watching. I will admit there are SOME stupid scenes in the show. But thats not really enough to take away from the show. They have to waste time in some way. And they have to make drama like Lori car rolling over and stuff. They are catering to the masses. Its what shows do. But, when it comes down to some of the poor time wasters in the show like that arm falling off the truck, they just weren't thinking. Great dramas don't waste time like this show has done in a lot of its two season lifespan. They intertwine arcs for a number of characters, and build on each of them. Every scene has a purpose. This goes for film too. They don't have to make that bullshit drama with Lori happen, its just flat out lazy ass writing and manufactured drama and most viewers will see right through that shit. You apparently see through it as well but you won't admit it is a fault and be critical because apparently that isn't allowed?
Don't be afraid to call out stuff you think was poor. Be critical. It's not a big deal, and the show can still be good, or ok, or worth watching. It just isn't great.

I felt like the arm scene showed the loss of humanity of the survivors are going through. The same way Carl says he'd shoot Sophia if he had the chance. Eh I can see where you are coming from but I don't think it had any point of being in the show at this point. It would have been better served being shown some time in season 1 or in early season 2. Andrea already had her "omg I'm a badass" revelation moment. We already know picking up severed limbs is nothing for her. So that time was essentially wasted because you are telling the audience something we already know.

You're talking about things from the comic books that haven't happened in the show yet (regardless of whether they will happen or not). Now go to the top of the thread and read the red bold letters, specifically this part:
"However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book."
You're trying to justify your failure to read, just follow the rules, it's not difficult.

I guess I'm not like you. If I'm critical of a show along with other people, it will make me dislike the show, and not watch it anymore. And I believe theres no point of being critical of a show because it would change nothing. If enough people actually were up in arms because of some of the stupid things in the show, then the possibility is there that they would change it. But theres just not enough people to cause that kind of change.

you dont have to be so black/white about it lot of people may complain but will still watch just to see what happens and will hope things change for the better, nothing wrong with that

I hear what you're saying that the show, especially this second season, and for sure this latest episode seems unnecessarily slow and plodding in moving the plots along and actually getting anywhere for once. But they're doing this, writing this, acting this deliberately, not because they can't think of ways to fill an hour.
You mentioned the scene where the arm falls off the back of the truck and Andrea has to go and pick it up as being worthless. In my view, it's a well executed scene. For one, it shows you the progress with the corpses. Big deal. It also, however, links back to the slaughter of the barn walkers and why they're in this fix in the first place. It's a common motif when there's a scene of doing an unusual activity, like hauling zombies, and of all things to happen, an arm falls off in the midst of the weirdness. And thirdly, and most importantly I think from the writers' perspective, that last shot of Andrea flinging the arm back on and sitting back on the truck and getting the truck moving again displays her growing confidence and not 'bad-assery' per-ce, but something along those lines.
That's just my take on the scene. Like I said, I know the show feels too slow for its own good, but really the show runners want to focus on scenes like that fallen-off-arm to present the human condition in such circumstances. It isn't a show of a group of people killing zombies, it's a drama of people dealing with each other that just how happen to be in post-apocalyptic world. And that's where I think much of the misunderstanding and misplaced criticism stem from.

As someone who loves spoilers, can someone summarize the episode? Didn't get a chance to watch it. I hate adds on TV. Would rather watch it without adds.
|
umm. they killed all the zombies in barn and hersh got sad and went to the bar and rick followed and lori tried to follow after and crashed the car for pretty much no reason (confirming she is retarded) and then rick shot a couple dudes in the bar.

Xivsa my point is I had exactly the same feeling about Andrea when she was sitting with her legs splayed in a "yeah I'm a badass look at the stuff I shot" pose. It was like a deer hunter being hauled off the field with his prize buck almost. A very masculine pose and most people can notice the body language. That said it all. I had that "Andrea is a badass" thought in my head already. That was enough. Everything they had done up until that point was enough. They were trying to embellish that motif and drive it home when they didn't need to, and they wasted time doing so. Picking up the arm changed nothing.
edit: I mean this is a woman we had this pseudo-Matrix style shootout moment in the suburbs like 3 or 4 episodes ago. Its a friggin arm. Big whoop. That moment was the equivalent of Trinity bending over and grasping at the nothingness that is left when one of the agents is killed. Utterly pointless.
How slow the show is moving doesn't really bother me. Its that they failed to provide any tension in the process. My heart was pounding when Shane sacrificed Otis and then ritualistically shaved his hair. That was cool. But it took them like 7 episodes to get that sort of feeling back in me again. That's a really bad sign but hopefully it is more telling of Darabont and there are talented people at the helm now. That last scene was extremely promising.
|
I have to agree that there are some really wonky scenes in the show. Some of the decision making is just mind-blowingly retarded. Lori is one of the most retarded characters on television.
The scene in the bar was pretty awesome though, particularly because it puts Rick in a similar spot as Hershel at the start of the season. Just really well done overall.
|
I will not be sad if they kill off lori and andrea. Maybe not kill off andrea because shes semi-hot. Lori's actor has the body of a 12 year old boy.
|
I think we are all overlooking the most important part of tonight's episode. T-Dog got like THREE lines! Plus his token zombie head footsmash.
|
The new cowboy Rick is too cool for Lori anyways imo.
|
The most confusing thing to me was HOW did Herschel get to the bar? He didn't take a vehicle, didn't take a horse(from what we saw), meaning he must of walked...and its a damn far unsafe walk, let alone he beat the 2 guys in a vehicle somehow.
|
Yikes...the Lori flips the car scene must have been one of the worst story-crafting bits I've seen in some time. The bar scene tension was good, it really was.
My hopes for the show remain low. They should try to ignore the existential garbage. "Oh I don't know!! Is it more meaningful to hope to live or to live to hope?" The actors don't have the chops to carry that stuff and the writers can't write it. It's a zombie show with guns and stuff. Go with it.
