He has no real inner conflict with whether it's right leaving Sasuke alive, he's single minded on this and he's a simpleton with everything else. It's not really questioned why Naruto's so intent upon saving this one person even though he's endangering the lives of everyone in his village. His relationship with his dead parents and Jiraya were his other humanizing elements, but again there's no complexity. It would have been more interesting to see how he would react if his parents were actually disappointed in him and how he would have dealt with it, or to see some long lasting effect of seeing his mentor of years die on an away mission and whether it would change his view of death. Nope, nothing complex, just good feelings.
Look at luffy, he's notorious for being a total retard. He had a single chapter of mourning and he goes right back to training. Maybe it can come later, but will Luffy harbor a hatred for the Marines for killing his brother? Doesn't appear so. Has demeanor changed or matured? Nope. The death brought him no lasting effects.
But that's the point of Shonen mangas, they're there for instant gratification, there is no exploration of complex issues. Character do good thing because it's good to do, characters do bad things so they'll be defeated by good characters usually sums up the entire experience.
Try reading mangas like like Berserk or Gantz or Homonculus. Those are mangas for adults.
Remember what had happened in those few chapters with Luffy mourning? Not only did Jimbe bring him back from practically wanting to kill himself, he had realized he could still find happiness among his friends. Of course after those few chapters and two years, he wouldn't be all mopey and sad. For Naruto, let's put it this way. When Sasuke almost died against Haku, Naruto went crazy with rage. When Jiraya died, Naruto did not go crazy because of how he had changed with Jiraya's teachings, becoming more accepting and understanding. Both characters have grown slightly, but not in dramatic ways which people could easily see, especially in One Piece's case. Haven't read any of those mangas yet, but planning on reading Gantz soon.
The Gantz response to any issue is:
1) Get angry. 2) Cry.
Absolutely phenomenal manga, but reading through it in one shot changes the how the frequency of the events feels to a reader. I'm sure I'd have come to a different conclusion had I read it incrementally.
I also read Gantz as a pretty much straight through read so I find your comment

1) Hilarious. 2) Spot on.
Well, I read the manga, and I think i might be able to come up with a more accurate definition: 1) fan-service 2) fan-service 3) fucking fan-service 4) "KEI-CHAN!!!" "TAE-CHAN!!!" 5) cry and fight aliens

lol @ #4. So true.
Author could've avoided this instead of time skip + reverse hyperbolic chamber... acknologia or whatever could've just thrown them into the future by 7 years or something lame like that
I don't really get what Ultear said, but this could work out pretty well. Fairy Tail is back to being a manga I really can't wait for the next chapter. Gerard looking badass, and its good that these characters are getting some screen time. Forces of good ftw!!

Mind is blown!
lol no its the opposite...
3mo real time = 1 day spirit time 7years (84 months) = 28days spirit time
Celestial guys been chillin in spirit world partying for just under a month.
Yeah, now I wonder how the fword do they manage to recover in the Celestial realm after a massive battle. I mean, if time runs that fast in there, they must be summoned back to fight again almost immediatly after their arrival. Way to rest...

Oh, they probably use an intermediary realm for that which slows time down to a crawl of course! Or the author pays no attention to plot holes, one way or the other.
And yeah, this chapter was cringe worthy. FREE POWER FOR EVERYONE! WOO!. And as always, bad guys are good guys in the end.

Bad guys being good guys I can handle.
Free power-up is just retarded.
Ultear said they would go through a lot of pain. This could actually create good scenes with short, intense trials or something showing off the character's skills. Also, we know they'll somehow have extended time so Wendy can learn her new spells or something like that. If this is done correctly, we'll be able to see an awesome reveal at the tournament of Fairy Tail's powers.

Unless they get permanently damaged from it, pain isn't a big deal. A few minutes of intense pain and bam, you get 7+ years of training. Seems like a pretty good trade to me.
I'm guessing Wendy won't participate in it and instead will opt to learn her new spells.
Seriously? Free Power Up? recently discovered knowledge? WTF IS FAIRY TAIL BECOMING TO????????? I still rememberd the good old days when it is still decent. Fairy tail with One Piece are the only two manga with an actualy WORLD, however while OP is going on the right track with its plot, fairy tail.......... -_- don't even get me started on that.
I wish I had healing powers, because that way I could shoot myself in the face every time I read Fairy Tail. That way I could feel the pain of being shot in the face so I could determain what I would rather spend my time doing. And to be frank I deserve it, if you read fairy tail you kind of deserve to be shot in the face and have it heal up so you can be shot again.
It's a shame because the last chapter it totally looked like they were going to go through with the no powerups + hardwork finish the tournament but then I guess the writers realized OH WE CAN'T DO THAT GUESS WE GET POWERUPS ANYWAYS SURRY GAIS.
