also, someone who doesnt speak your language is likely to have a vastly different style than what one may be used to. that can be a pleasant surprise as well.

Ok this thought has been kinda in my head for a lil while. When I hear Nana Mizuki and Kana Nishino songs top the charts with ease, more and more I keep thinking that they're more and more overrated (vocally). It's probably because I can't stand Nana Mizuki's voice (and her singing to me is like above average). I really think that most of the "rock sounding" stuff she puts out masks her voice... I mean seriously, what am I missing from her that makes her stuff good?

As for Kana Nishino, I love her lol. But within her field as well, I know I've heard better singers. Plus her voice kinda reminds me of Nanaka in BRIGHT, and her voice is probably the lowest out of the four, and definitely not better than Mi-Mi

So I tried to find singers that are kind of similar to Kana and Nana that are better vocally and this is what I got...

for Nana Mizuki, I thought of Rina Aiuchi (Aya Kimiki's probably more similar right... then again I don't think Aya Kimiki is much better than Nana vocally although GIZA top to bottom don't have anyone blatantly bad at singing, and overall I can't hear a lot of female vocals that stand out unless their name is Sharon den Adel or something)

for Kana Nishino... fuck it I'll use BRIGHT

Obviously it's not all about vocals (although the counter comparisons I did list are successful in their own right) but what I wonder what separates them from other artists that I think are a bit more talented than them...

Regarding Mizuki Nana, I dunno. I actually haven't really seen any shows she has a voice role in(Kara no kyoukai excepted) but her voice isn't obscenely high or screeching which is a plus for me, and I like her music style.That and she can actually sing, unlike a certain Hirano Aya(LOL) And too bad High and Mighty Color broke up, new vocalist wasn't that great anyways imo.
