The one common denominator throughout is Puppey... I don't know about that. There are a lot of other teams that have excellent team fighting. PPD's team, for one. That's how they won the international, after all - by out fighting every other team there along with having excellent picks. That team's base defense is second to none. But what Puppey's teams do have above other teams is in-game and out-of-game decision making. This started in Na'Vi when Puppey, along with ArtStyle, used to out draft and out plan other teams. But the height of their in-game decision making came to be only after Puppey left Na'Vi - and Na'Vi went to shit - and joined Secret. We saw Secret out rotating other teams for six months in 2015, only to fail at the very end due to internal differences. Now, with a new team, we see it again, though how long it's going to last, no one knows.

EG has extremely good teamfighting and VG have had similar patches too but Puppey teams always take these strange fights that I think are impossible and come out 5-0 teamwiping the enemy. No other team has surprised me that much in the fights they win.

Fuck most top tier teams showed brilliance one game or another. Remember when VG looked unstoppable post TI4?

No other team has surprised me that much in the fights they win. But in that game it's actually quite obvious why they won: because of the out pick from the very beginning. The only opportunity Ehome had was the dark seer vacuum + wall combo but Puppey even had an answer to that in the form of Nyx. It was simply too difficult for them to fight past the mid game which is why Secret was able to wipe them easily. I think a lot of Secret's fights come down to this. They look as though they're behind but they're not because of their picks, else their farm. I remember back when Arteezy was on the team, Secret would sacrifice a lot in order to get him farmed, and then turn a fight with that farm. This is not to say Secret doesn't have amazing team fighting. But it is to say that Puppey stacks the cards with his plans.
