I also want to offer a public thank you to FO-nTTaX for putting together the strangeness that is the Americas bracket.

so secret won't get the defending champion direct invite? or will they invite EG seeing they aren't in the qualifier bracket

pretty lame if that's how it is

almost as hillarious as NaVi's placement in the winner's round 2

Maybe they are based on TI5's results of each team. EG was the champion and Na'Vi had advanced to the main event.

I imagine EG is getting the direct invite in lieu of Secret because of Secret's massive roster change but I don't actually know

I don't really mind them inviting EG. Inviting the "previous champion" wouldn't have made much sense given it's not the same team any more. At least EG has 4/5 of the TI winning squad. Also inviting EG guarantees that the tournament will have 2 NA teams, and for this tournament they need English speaking players to make the event work. From that angle inviting Secret would have achieved a similar thing I guess.

Though as a spectator it's a bit annoying how all these NA teams never really get to challenge EG because they never play online and there doesn't seem to be any NA focused LANs.

Yeah I don't really know how you can argue against the EG invite, it just makes sense.
-The previous winner changed 4 players out of 5
-EG placed 2nd at last summit, won TI and only changed one player since then. (the new player being from the team that won!)
-From a starpower/marking value standpoint you want EG in your tournament
-Especially since its an NA tournament
-In the current state of the scene EG is probably the only team that doesn't have anything to prove (maybe VP too) forcing them to go through a qualifier makes no sense and is probably the best way to make them skip your tournament.

As far as VP goes I somewhat disagree. Their position is in a way similar to CDEC in China. Both had good TI results and are now getting direct invites, but before that they were hardly all that dominant. VP was top4 in EU, but outside of TI they never were the best in their region. VP didn't make it through the EU qualifiers when all teams were playing to a bunch of tournaments for example: they missed DAC, SL12, and Summit 3. Obviously other teams around them changed their rosters, but still there is imo plenty of room for doubt whether VP is actually the top team of the region or again just close to the top. In that sense I don't really like it when there's at most a few spots per region at each LAN and then some of those are given out as invites to Secret/VP/CDEC or whoever. EG is a different story because they've been by far the #1 team in their own region for a long while now, and now they even won the 2 biggest tournaments of the year and have been one of the absolute best teams in the world.

But of course there's also the angle you mentioned, if you as an organizer want some teams to play in your tournament then you may have to invite them because they simply don't have time for the qualifiers if they are right in the middle of a busy LAN season. Though in Summit's case all teams seem to be playing despite the fact that the entire month is already full of games: there's 3 LANs, the Major qualifiers, different leagues like Defense/D2CL/Dreamleague. Interesting to see how many teams will be invited to the Major, if they don't invite Secret for example then their month is going to be really hectic with constant travel and important games all the time.

Na'Vi getting a qualifier round 2 invite over 5jungz, MB and NiP is pretty fucking weird though.

ROFL

They should've just invited more teams instead of playing NaVi into the second round, so stupid honestly. BTS is always biased to teams with big brands like Alliance and NaVi anyway

it's not such a big deal really, it's a DE bracket and top 2 is qualified, doesn't matter in the end where you are seeded

according to ixmike, they also intentionally fail to load in games so they can run more ads. but seriously, i agree, miracle is better than navi and probably newteam as well

NiP appears to be getting thrashed on kills but doing kind of okay on farm so they might be only behind instead of enormously behind?

I will never understand why NiP changed Apemother to Limmp, he's so so much worse than Ape

Also, they became a t2 team after the change
