dohohoho the amount of salt right now is so much more than the PL Alliance game yesterday

that might be because PL is just one hero among many (and not even that good one) whereas this fountain hook abuse was incredibly cheap

also i don't see how anyone can argue the fountain hook is a high risk high reward play, dendi only landed like 1 out of 5 of their fountain hook attempts and the failed attemps didn't really hurt them at all, he just kept fishing until he hit one and then it was guaranteed kill

because TF didn't capitalize on failed hooks. but sure, being in Na'vi's situation a 4v5 fight would have been SOOOOOOO favorable

It is hard to capitalize on because pudge has 3 seconds to walk forward while the rest of his team backs. If you walk forward to catch out the rest of his team, then he hooks you and thats instantly 1 hero down. If he hooks the carry then its GG. If you walk away to avoid the hook then you can't go back to catch out the rest of his team afterwards. There is literally 0 risk and massive reward. It does take skill to land the hook but even if he misses, he just comes back 20 seconds later and tries again. The strategy is just cheesy as shit. Maelk understood that, but it seems the casuals in this thread just like watching fountain hooks because it's "entertaining".

I don't care much about anything but the fountain hooks made me shut off the game because it stopped being entertaining for me.

What do you mean?

Everyone arguing one way or the other about fountain hooks.

Salty = FGC lingo for being bitter over a game/results.

I really don't get ppl complaining about fountain hooks. It's a cool feature in game and also very double edged sword. Sending pudge home can cost you teamfights so easily. Sadly, TongFu didn't capitalise on failed hooks.

Very well deserved win, suck it haters

they're the same people who complain about cheese in BW/SC2, basically people who have never actually played a video game in their life and live to complain about how others player games

It's not a 'cheese' though. They were only doing it because they were super far behind. When playing that far behind, you have literally no risk in doing it, especially if you are on your side of the map and by a tower. The fact that Dendi hit Hao when he had an aegis was a monumental deal; that swung the momentum heavily into Navi's favor.

"no risk in doing it"

yeah except fighting 4v5 if you miss the hook, you know how little of a risk that is against a team with a farm advantage over you

No.... they did it 30+ times and had no problems from it. Just send pudge ahead with forcestaff, team backs up, nobody gets caught, pudge is back with the team within 10 sec.

Hitting hook is really easy and undodgeable, especially after being force staffed. OH WAIT

Precisely.

And people are saying Na'Vi are killing and disrespecting esports apparently because of this.

This is fucking entertainment

Na'Vi are terrible people for using an intended in-game mechanic to win a game in a tournament where the 1st prize is 1.4 million dollars, they should be banned from all dota tournaments for life

I don't think IceFrog or the developers thought anyone would actually have the execution to pull it off. However, it does feel 100% bullshit from a player's standpoint that you outplay the other team the entire time, have a timing push with an aegis, and then lose because you lose the aegis to a borderline abuse that you honestly cannot outplay apart from 'dodging.'

Kind of funny that Maelk echoed the thought.

So being 4o5 in the ennemy jungle is low risk...

In a game like that yes. They lose 5v5 so being 4v5 is meaningless. If they get the hook though they shut down TF.

2009 was loving every minute of it.

Well ok, that's not true. He was pretty miffed about it for a while but the moment he realized that Na'Vi could actually win he went nuts.

So he was mad at the "delaying" not the actual "abuse" I guess?

No he wasn't really that mad about anything. Just standard, stoic 2009 commentating. Often they would contain some bias towards Tongfu, but thats expected obviously and when Na'Vi won he actually congratulated them for managing to pull this off.

Because newborns with milk still on their whiskers think they know dota after watching half a tournament in their whole lives, and propose balance changes.

There is no other team in the world that would have balls big enough to use this all-in strategy at a such a prestigious tournament. Na'Vi thrive in such a position. They are chaos perfected. That's why they are the crowd favourites.

New to Dota2: stupid question.

How does "fountain hook" work exactly? Pudge uses a meat hook and then Chen teleports Pudge to their base, bringing the enemy all the way to the base? Chen ends up at the home base, too?

chen casts a spell on an allied hero (pudge in this case) which sends them to the fountain in X seconds (3 at max rank). there's a (visible) buff counting down on the hero once it's been cast on them.

the pudge then casts hook just as he's about to be teleported. when the hook hits it brings whatever it hits to pudge. there's a cast animation to it, so if timed right, and targeted well, the enemy hero gets dragged all the way across the map as pudge gets sent to the fountain

Ya after thinking about it, I think it was more Tongfu's fault than fountain hook costing Na'vi the game. I think they could've actually pushed and exploited the times Pudge missed hooks and Xboct was off farming. They definitely had timing windows there, but it still sucks to see it.

1. Chen activates the send back on Pudge - its on a timer, 3 seconds I think.
2. Pudge throws out a hook and hook's someone.
3. In mid air of the hero getting hooked, the send back timer goes off and Pudge is sent back to base (fountain)
4. The hero in mid hook gets dragged ALL the way back to Pudge's base (fountain) and the fountain does massive damage.
5. Pudge uses his ULT and keeps the hero there for 3 seconds with the fountains damage = instant kill with no chance to stop it really.

god, i am loving this. even better than navi pulling out this absurd win is the fact that so many people have to eat their words.

all the people who were complaining about navi just delaying/trolling a game that was already lost. it gives me such a warm fuzzy feeling to see that pie dripping from your stupid faces.

with this much money on the line, you wouldn't give up even if you had a 1/1000 chance.

that was some julius caesar shit. alea iacta est.

Answer this question haters, why aren't other teams abusing this if it's so easily abused? Fountain hooks make the pudge miss out on valuable gold and exp (buying a TP everytime it fails, which is more often than not). Tongfu just got overconfident and didn't punish Navi enough.
