I'm wondering if things might have been different if TongFu attacked when they saw a failed fountain hook. 5v4 is pretty good odds no, with no risk any further fountain hooks for the next minute or so.
Okay, people are really overselling the "coordination" of the fountain hook.
You understand they can talk to each other, right? You understand Chen's send back isn't something he does in response to a hook? It doesn't require multi-person timing.
Dendi says "send me back", Puppey doesn't just cast it when he feels an opportunity with his star sense.

How does "fountain hook" work exactly? Pudge uses a meat hook and then Chen teleports Pudge to their base, bringing the enemy all the way to the base? Chen ends up at the home base, too?
chen doesn't end up at home base.
chen casts a spell and pudge has a small window to hook someone. after the window, he gets sent back with or without th ehooked opponent. if you hook someone and you finish the hook before the teleport, then the other champ doesn't get teleported either.

Chen casts the spell on an allied hero and after a delay (something like 4 seconds I think?) that hero is teleported back.
Chen stays where he is. So it requires some pretty technical timing (remember how many times pros actually messed it up that game).

That's exactly was Tongfu was doing; they were winning every fight because Dendi kept missing hooks. The second Dendi started hitting hooks though the game swung immediately into Navi's favor because they instagibbed a Doom, Gyro twice (once with Aegis), and their supports a few times.

Chen sends only the player he casts the spell on. So teleport on pudge, pudge hooks just before the TP happens, if hook lands it will drag the hooked hero with him to the fountain. Thanks Dota2 seems really cool. Only if I had more time heh.

Yeah that's essentially it. The hook if latched needs to complete so the latched hero follows the Pudge back to base.
Chen does not go back to base, its one of his skills to send a teammate or ally unit home.

You lousy buggers are missing the point. Doesn't matter if it worked, all that matters is that navi tried it in the first place. Every other team in the long history of dota would be too scared to pull this off in such a game.
Not like any other team would pick PAJ in TI semis to begin with lmao.

You guys realize that Na'vi still had TWO tier 2 towers left. Tongfu had a significant advantage and they did not push with it. Every time a fountain hook went off, it was 4v5 with no possibility of Na'vi saving either funn1k, kuro, or XBOCT with the sendback. When Dendi missed a fountain hook, Tongfu never took advantage of it. Let's face it. They were obviously unprepared to deal with a strategy that wasn't "standard" play.

That was awesome to watch. Last time i saw that strat it was ROOT gaming and they failed miserably.

It's not hard for the best players in the world since they do this every day all the time.
it was called fungal growth, except you didn't have to time it, it wasn't creative and it was just one ability.

I get this was all Opterown's gimmicky scheme for pumping 300 pages of ethics and morality around fountain hooks.
Well played, sir, well played.

Not really. As Draskyl pointed out Pudge can just tp back.
And the force staff + hook range means chen is about 1500++ range from Tongfu. So i think the risk is exagerrated.
It still takes coordination to execute though so props to them for that.
Just feels like the old CK where he had that ridiculous crit
My feelings is just like Maelk's. The feeling is that Icefrog left it in for novelty because it's funny ( just like chaos mode). But once it starts affecting competitive dota then maybe icefrog will take a second look at it.
But as a competitor, do whatever you can to win.
More importantly : Anuxi sets best sets.

this is the best possible international ever. from awesome games, to 90 minute pre 2009 esque dota and now people in an uproar.
