Thanks for the help. I know LS has been suggested to me in the past as a good hero to learn carry but I've always been afraid of armlet toggling.

i would suggest phase drums maelstrom helps you farm and gives you additional dps without worrying with toggles mjol isnt a bad item on him. the tricky part is when to use rage. rage too early then you might be a squishy target if you cant pick off heroes and rage too late and you get chain stunned

I remember midas used to be an early item on LS ... is that gone now? And I assume I may need to learn how to transition into jungle if my lane is really bad for some reason?

i go midas if i have pretty good laning experience. you could transition into the jungle but it gotta be a pretty hard lane to lose it, unless you do stupid builds like max feast. 4/1/1/1 -> max open wounds is my own personal preference since early->mid game is dictated on who could burst down fast enough and rage negates that especially with a longer duration. dont worry about being the first one to head on. Phase boots will help you in this, just phase -> rush inside + time your rage + open wounds -> right click (don't forget infest does damage too! do this for the finishing kill tho). again this is my own playstyle, you also gotta take into account the overall scenario

P.S. watch some Fnatic Era vods for additonal info on how to lifestealer

Then don't armlet toggle. I understand where you're coming from since I had the same concern then. Generally sny is fine. I'm not a fan of mael first because it leaves you with a low HP pool. Although its sort of hypocritical for me to say this since I suggested SB, but at least SB gives you solo killing potential. Anyway you can't really go wrong with phase drums sny. Or go something like phase halberd mjolnir. Then add basher somewhere.

True. That's why if your gonna go midas, dont go for mael as first item.

He is very versatile so armlet is an OPTION

you could go racecar LS
- phase drums s&y
or armlet LS
- phase armlet
or mjolnir LS
- phase mjol

with late game options depending on the situation with
- basher->abyssal for the added disable
- AC if there is no AC carrier
- desolater/daedalus for the added umphf

I always go for phase + drums + (item depending on the game)
since you're gonna be chasing a lot

on lifestealer, I would consider abyssal a must have item after your 1st big item. strength, dmg, and lockdown are all staples for melee carries.

I still like phase basi maelstrom opening on life stealer but I probably split push and farm more than others

I'd probably go something like Lifestealer, Wraith King and Sven to be honest.

Lifestealer has built-in BKB/attack steroid, a slow and two ways to gain health (one with a nuke one default lifesteal on attacks).

WK has lifesteal, stun and a built-in aegis.

Sven has stun, cleave and two abilities that you can just press and start running at people with before hacking off their heads.

All fairly straightforward, all have useful parts of the "carry kit" built into their character, all of them can nicely wreck teamfights with a couple of items. They don't have complicated micro and you don't actually HAVE to build armlet on any of them if you don't want to. Though armlet isn't really a scary item to worry about, just switch on before a fight and switch off after.

I have not played in this new patch. What's the merits of crimson guard aside that its an upgrade of vanguard. Is it pretty much granting your allies a free vanguard for 9s?

Much better than free vanguard for 9s. The block is a 100% chance for 50 damage, even on ranged heroes. That translates to a ton of physical damage block depending on what you're up against. For illusion heroes, summons, and mapos, the block is kind of ridiculous since they depend on a large number of physical damage instances that independently are relatively weak.

Up against single unit, large dps like a tiny, a drow or something similar, the damage block is significantly less noticeable, but hey, 50 damage an attack is still nothing to scoff at. If you can manage to take 5 hits from a drow, that's still 250 damage blocked. If you're a carry spectre and get crimson guard used on you and you take 10 attacks from a carry in those 9 seconds, that's 500 damage blocked.

Do note that damage block occurs before reductions and as such "500 dmg blocked" is very far from "500 hp gained" or w/e.

The active is exceedingly powerful but its a 4k gold item and it falls off fairly rapidly so you have to want the raw HP and armor and block from it yourself and you have to have an extension plan for when CG stops being particularly relevant.

^ of course. I'd say it can still be quite relevant up through the mid game and even early into late game. When you have a 6 slotted <insert hero here> beating on your ass, CG isn't going to save you, but in the earlier engagements when people aren't doing a ton of physical damage to begin with, the damage block reduces incoming damage significantly.

Meh still not fully sold on Crimson Guard. Feels like it becomes irrelevant too fast, and it's kinda expensive.

50 block has been scientifically measured to be exactly one metric fuckton though.

Viper doesn't count as a carry I guess?

I said this before, but the real draw of CG isn't just building through Vanguard, it's that it builds through Buckler for heroes that don't want Mek.

Buckler is quite a good item for cost (compare to Basi for heroes that don't have need for the mana regen), but was previously an 800 gold dead-end if you aren't making Mek with it. CG opens up the item for a lot of non-Mek heroes. The item itself as an end-product isn't really game-changing, but the fact that you can have Stout+Vit+Buckler (all individually high-effectiveness early fighting items) and have them combine into ONE item slot later is significant in and of itself.

Can you explain your reasoning behind that buckler a bit more? I don't particularly see the cost-effective value of a 800g item that gives +2 armor as an active. The 5 armor for yourself is nice sure, but I'm not exactly jumping at the idea of buying a buckler just for a bit of armor.

Isn't Jakiro's Macropyre super underpowered? Every time I use it or see it used it doesn't seem to do much. Is it because damage over time is less visible, or is it really quite a weak ulti?

It's shit but damage are real.
