For some reason I didn't really like him before I played him (don't really like his model) but my god if you like high action with impact throughout the game that's the hero to go for. Yes he falls off versus BKBs but you'll have sooo much fun up until then :D
Even late game he is really fun as if you win a teamfight you melt towers so fast as return actually works on them!

In pubs, how do you beat stacks that run heavy push line-ups? They pick stuff like Shadow Shaman, Leshrac, Venomancer, Lycan, Nature's Prophet, etc. (at the last second so they don't get counterpicked) and I find it really difficult to win when my team just picks random heroes. (~3500 MMR)
And how would you counterpick such a team anyway?

And how would you counterpick such a team anyway? For the most part you probably dont. Pushing is fairly simple to execute compared to defending it. And if they're a stack and pick last second while you have a mishmash of heroes you shouldnt really expect to win.
As for counterpicking it, theres probably no one way to do it. But what you could consider at least is: - Good anti pushers. Can be long range nukes to clear creep waves and minions (Kotl, Shaker, Timber, etc). Another example is veno, pushing into a wall of veno wards is very hard early on. - Good early game team fighters (Brew, Kunkka, Tide, Undying, Phoenix, etc). Take the fight when they come to your towers and try wipe them. - Strong laners help too. Stuff like having a Viper on your team who wins his lane and gets an early mek can help loads.

Is Pheonix ok for pub play? Had to play it for the 10 hero champ thing and really enjoyed it. I'm guessing good teams will focus you instantly when you ult though right?

Phoenix is very good for pubs yes. He has some pretty hard counters like Silencer but overall very strong. You need to use your Fire Spirits and try to hit as many as possible before you ult. Can also be used during your Dive. The massive attackspeed reduction will make people unable to quickly focus the egg. And if they still focus it they should end up dying to the rest of the team.
Don't yolo in too hard into the enemy team and egg right in the middle of them. It still does a huge amount of burn damage even if they don't get stunned it the end. It will force the enemy team to either focus the egg or run. And if you landed enough Spirits on the enemy team they can't focus the egg so they have to run. Then if they run, they aren't fighting and you just won the teamfight cause you will end up getting a few easy kills
Best item is Shiva's as the reversed-beast master aura makes it harder to focus the egg. I don't think it's first item material though. Probably like Mek -> Shivas but haven't played enough to find the item progression I like the most.

I wrote a pretty good guide on him for the thread. The thread also has a video and some other cool discussion that you can check out as well.

IMO he's an amazing pub hero because he can be used as a solo laner, or a support in a dual lane, he has some of the best teamfight in the entire game (I was regularly playing him against QW invokers when that was broken, and winning almost every time) and his ganking and solo kill potential is very underrated.
The keys to him are getting good with Fire Spirits and understanding that using all of your spells, and then Supernova in the middle of the fight. Supernova does really good damage and forces the enemy to disengage or take a lot of damage and the stun.
Items IMO are Tranquils, Urn, Mek, Shiva's/Halberd and then into more utility items.

Phoenix is an amazing pub hero because the other team is often so disorganized that they won't be able to coordinate whether to kill the egg or run away. Often you'll have one guy, usually the carry, trying to kill the egg while the supports run away because the burn damage is so high. Then the carry finds that he can't kill the egg in time or he's getting disabled by your teammates that he tries to run away, only to find himself stunned by Supernova and killed. Then the supports die anyway as you pick off stragglers. The trick to pulling this off consistently is to find a place where the enemy team has to put thought into whether or not to attack your egg. If you just jump into all five of them and nobody else is around to back you up, your egg will get killed immediately. If you ult off to one side pinning them against cliffs or trees and making them hesitate, you're going to do a ton of damage and survive long enough for the rebirth.

2 Questions:
1) Versus an evasion hero (PA, Void); How fast do you want to go MKB?
2) When going for a shrapnel build on sniper; what is your first item, generally? I've been trying out the build and I really like it but I don't know what to do after I build my treads+Aquila. I hardly ever see this build being played and none of the highly rated guides are shrapnel builds; a lot of snipers using the passive build go shadowblade first. I've tried this and it is definitely useful for escaping, but I'm not sure if it's actually the best use of your first few thousand gold.

MKB does not remove Void's passive evasion.

MKB disables evasion (pa, butterfly); as does Chrono and hex. It depends on the circumstances when and if MKB is a feasible and worthwhile investment.

Mask of madness is always the first core item you should get. Then maelstrom and a mobility item like blink. Shadowblade works instead of blink I guess but too greedy to work against good players most of the time. Alternatively you could go for the movespeed build of drums SnY MoM, but if you're playing against a lot of initiation heroes than blink is the safest item to get. Phase boots is better with either build than treads imo, although treads is good mid since you can switch to get more mana for bottle and shrapnel.

I think MoM -> Blink is better than MoM -> Maelstrom -> Blink
|
I usually get maelstrom first since sniper is pretty shit in terms of farm speed so maelstrom really helps you catch up to real carries.

First off I am new but watched the youtube vid and read rules so if this post upsets anyone or is in the wrong place I apologize in advance. Quick background on me. I have 520 hours on Dota. Not a lot I know. 233 won games out of 501. Putting my Win rate at about 45%. I jumped into ranked games recently because of a desire for better gameplay. MMR after the 9 determining games was 1875. I know thats considered extremely low. My mmr as of right now is 1450. I hung around low 1900s for about a month before game after game brought me to below 1500. I raged every game and kept telling myself "i need to get out of this shit mmr" then I realized something: I belonged to this MMR. I stopped blaming teammates and became more open to the idea that I was the one who messed up. So now I have 550 hours of dota and a better mentality. That was a big step, but my goal is still an MMR of 2000. Ive read guide after guide on how to raise mmr. I dont want to solo carry lycan or furion. I also cant because even with midas at <5 minutes and all enemy T1 and T2 taken by me alone at <20 I still lose somehow. I dont get cocky and throw games anymore. I try hard support and even when i buy wards dust and smoke galore my teammates think themselves better than life (my previous mindset) . In games i try saying things like "axe, a good purchase is Vanguard instead of poor mans" as opposed to my prior method of "WTF ARE YOU BUILDING POOR MANS FOR F***************" haha So basically, should I accept the 1450 mmr and hope somehow I rise up to 2000mmr after about 150-200 games or should i actively pursue higher mmr? If i need to delete because this is in the wrong place again im sorry and i will! Thank you for all and any feedback.

IMO your MMR is a relatively meaningless number. Don't read into it too much, a lot of importance is placed on it that could instead be placed on things like proper rotations, lasthitting, warding, avoiding ganks, etc. which will improve your mmr. So focus on those things instead.
Edit: You can definitely raise your MMR by playing any position well, from 1-5. All of them are very important, though some place more importance on the 1-2 roles because of the nature of solo queuing. However, if you are a good support/offlaner and you and your team communicate, you can be infinitely more helpful than yet another hard carry.
|
Something I did when I first started out playing was play games with one to three personal achievements in mind.
What I did was pick about 10 heroes that I rotated through and each game I decided on a few personal goals. And those goals were all that mattered. This game I focused on cs, this game I focused on map vision, this game I focused on rune control, then lane control, then pulling and stacking creeps, then pushing, then jungling, then kda, then....
If you choose to adapt something like this I would recommend playing unranked however, as it is an extremely selfish way of playing. A lot of these goals could be achieved through bot games, but I soon detested that because bots have patterns and don't adequately prepare you for the unpredictable nature of real people.

Yeah I'm inclined to say that while you'll probably raise MMR a bit faster to your "true" level by playing high-impact 1-2 position heroes, you'll still be able to go up with supports or other heroes. And I've had a player go support bounty hunter and play the roaming so well that I as mid was able to proceed to roll the game, not because I played well but because he did, so as Fencar said, good supports can be more helpful than another hard carry.

So I've been trying for awhile but I can't seem to stack the neutral camp right next to the radiant mid lane more than 1 time. Is it possible to stack it so that there are 3 sets of neutral creeps? I spent 20 min trying to do it in a created game and could never do it. I tried pulling up and also pulling to the right up the hill. The jungle creeps just seem to run into each other too much to stack a set of 3 or more.

Hey guys just got into an Ursa game, does Eye of Skadi and Satanic stack? The guide im following says it does but I thought they're both unique attack modifiers?
