I often find myself reading up character guides before the match but I want to know what to buy when to buy without the help of guides. In other words what items suit what usually? Things to consider/look out for? Depends on so many factors. Who your hero is, what type of hero you're playing, what your role is, how your farm is going, how the game is going, what heroes are on the other team, and how the other team is playing. The best way imo is simply to play a lot of games and watch pro dota games with a knowledgeable caster. Just stick to the recommended items for now, theyre usually ok. Another great site to use for simple item guides is dota2alttab.com. Otherwise your question right now is far too broad to answer. Is there a certain hero / type of hero / role you're particularly interested in??

I often find myself reading up character guides before the match but I want to know what to buy when to buy without the help of guides. In other words what items suit what usually? Things to consider/look out for? Hard question to answer... I can't give any definitive answer but you need to think in terms of how the hero needs to be played in a particular game and what are the obstacles to achieving that. That makes items quite situational. (Note that everything I say below is very general and won't apply to every hero.) In general you buy items for one or a combination of two things. Active/passive abilities and auras Stats/regen The next important thing to understand is that items which give stats get less efficient as they become more expensive. The humble Branch gives 3 x 1 = 3 bonus stat points for 53g. By contrast a Ultimate Orb gives 3 x 10 = 30 stat points for 2100g. That's a lot less efficient. The only reason (generally speaking) you buy more expensive items is that you are limited by item slots. What stats you want to build on a hero is largely determined by that heroes role and the starting stats/stat growth on the hero (< 2 is approx below average). Very very generally speaking, a Strength based carry would want to build armour and attack speed to supplement their low agility. So items like Assault Cuirass are common. An agility carry by contrast probably wants to build survivability because they have naturally high dps and armour. Eg BKB and Manta on Drow. Building regen on a hero often indicates you are going for a farming build. Things like Linken's Sphere fit into that category. Some passives are also used for this. Radiance and battlefury are bought mainly to help the carry farm. Support heroes are a bit simpler. You generally want survivability. Things like Urn, Bracer (and later drums) as well as ghost scepter are popular for this reason. Also utility items which help with things like position (eg force staff) although these are good on most heroes (along with blink dagger). That being said, some items present excellent value for money. Mek is the most common example. It gives armour and burst heal to you and your team for only ~2300 gold. Good in almost every game (one per team though). Drum of Endurance is another good example. Is slot efficient and gives a team based aura as well! Ghost Scepter I would argue also presents good value for money. 3 x 7 stats plus an active which counters entire teams in some games. Magic wand is also excellent. with just 3 charges it gives more hp than a bracer.

Watching Zhou play morph in TI2 in his perspective essentially made me learn how to play a carry hero properly (and its pretty much what I play exclusively when playing with friends now, mainly because I'm better than my friends at it ).This so much.. I love that you can watch from someone's perspective AND you can actually see their mouse movement.. contrast this with SC2, yeah.. its cool I see the selection or what not but when you can see the cursor, the learning is so much better. I have been looking at ZSMJ replays on how he does his last hitting........ SOOOOOOOO crisp... man.. he hits at that sliver of health and the way he pokes the enemy is so good. Wonder why they dont blank out the enemy minimap icons when in one faction perspective tho... Could help with the immersion to know what is the info available to the player.. Even so.. I really enjoy Dota2 replay.. :D

And why do you miss arcane ring? All it did was take up an extra slot, it was a great idea of Icefrog to combine it with boots.

I prefer arcane ring than arcane boots cause it gives u 3 armors early game (its so good for some str heroes lack of armor and have poor mana like doom,ck or any other heroes) and had low cd 33 secs . Instead of purchasing arcane boots for Tauren i could replace it with phase boots ( faster ms + do extra damage + with his combo ) and u see tauren with phase boots + arcane ring is best combination

I've been getting Mek and going for aghanims after that. someone told me to get a bloodstone late game but isn't that redundant since bloodstone need to accumulate charges from ganks? Any other good items that can boost my spell casting? well Mekan is not rly good support item for Orge cuz hes melee and not worth . Urn + Arcane boots and force staff are better items for orge if ur support ( u can stun enemies to let ur mates escape and force staff them then heal with urn )

Any other good items that can boost my spell casting? Mana boots and force staff are the 2 items considered core on him (and wand ofc). Otherwise you should just split all the support items between yourself and the other support(s). Mek, urn, drums, pipe, and maybe euls / sheepstick / shivas depending on ur farm. Ogre magi's relatively large str gain renders him a lot tankier than most supports so you don't really need the mek imo, unless your other support isn't getting it for some reason, in which case you should definitely invest in 1. If ur supporting I wouldn't be getting aghanim's scepter. It's very expensive and its seperate components do very little for you. Unless you're in a farming role there are better options.

Arcane Ring sucked because it increased the downtime of for whole teams if you didn't have one. It had a clunky build up and wasted inventory slots (unlike mana boots which both upgrades your boots and provides mana). If you value armor, you can still buy a casual RoB for doom/ck, not waste 1.1k on an item that doesn't really contribute to your dps. Regading bloodstone, it's a terrible item on Ogre Magi. You don't really have spammable spells to justify needing the regen. Aghs is fun, but it's pretty mediocre for it's 4.2k cost. Casual support items like urn/forcestaff/drums/euls are solid pickups on Ogre since you should be spending most of your money on Wards/Detections/Stuff your team needs.

If the target enemy Hero has Aghanim's Scepter, Rubick will steal the upgraded version of the spell. An Aghanim's Scepter held by Rubick will also upgrade a stolen spell. Source: Dota 2 Wiki

I know, I read about that before, but ingame it says the opposite. And playdota doesn't even list Rubick as a hero that gets anything out of it.
