Bite is especially maxed out first when you are against melee heroes on lane. Nova is insanely poweful when you combo with another disable. Aura is very important for team going early aggressive plays. Ulti can deal scary amount of damage if you chose to get it against specific line up.
I really love CM and hope to cook up my own CM guide soon. The one thing bothers me is that replays wont be available after 1 month -_-
I'm kind enough to let you support me as cm for as many games as you need.

(170 is not awfull for constant item transfers) I have found that a lycan on a safe lane were i can pull is incredebly good, because u can jungle around 5 really well and then push. Just an idea you can just ask someone to upgrade the courier alternately if you random you can just upgrade the courier or buy extra regen and wait 4-5 minutes is really late for flying courier, it should ideally be upgraded before (or when) mid gets bottle

And a fast mid bottle is what? 2min, 2min 30, say a pub game isnt perfect a 4 min flying cour isnt impossible.

2 min is standard. if your playing shitty pubs sure but if wer going to talk about everything in that context then a lot of stupid stuff is possible.

If I am 5th position support I just get it as soon as I have 225 gold, which is usually around 2-3 minutes. Unfortunately when I play mid, my supports don't upgrade the courier and use it for stupid things when I need the bottle

I remember watching a game where vacuum was cast on units that were under the effect of nagas sleep but they still moved. dont think they took damage though. Is this still the case? Also, you used to be able to smoke to run away from panda ult. Has this been removed?

Can someone explain why having auto-attack on is better than having it off?

That makes sense. Another question: What's the best way to learn the characters? Should I focus on one at a time? Should I pick a small group and switch every game? Or should I just hit random every game?

My advice (other people have different opinions): When you first start, focus on playing a small pool of heroes, maybe 3-4 heroes tops. Whenever you come across a new hero that confuses you, read up what skills it has on wiki/whatever. That way you can focus on improving your play on a small pool of heroes but at the same time learn the spells of all heroes in the game. Eventually as you feel more confident you can branch out to more and more heroes.

Thanks! That seems much easier than trying to figure out everyone at once. Any suggestions on starting heroes? I've just been learning Windrunner so far.

What makes players stronger laners than other players? Apart from last hitting ability, which seems to be a substantial part, what is it about Mushi / Cty / Ohaiyo / Dendi's play which allows them to win their solo lanes so often.
Is it experience with heros and matchups? Or can it be teams and items ( e.g. Ferrari being pooled sentries when qop vs ta)

If you want fairly easy to play heroes that you can't harm your own team with I'd recommend.
Carries: Chaos Knight, Lifestealer, Ursa, Skeleton King
Supports: LICH, Tidehunter, Crystal Maiden, Jakiro
Others: Death Prophet, Nyx Assassin

Game sense, lane control (when to prioritise last hit or deny), smart use of spells/mana management, harass, positioning, ability to pounce on enemy mistakes, creating opportunities...there are too many things to list out tbh.

Lich is a very good hero to learn the game on imo because he introduces you to denying through his skill set, an important and somewhat abstract game mechanic. He can also replenish his mana very well and you dont need to be as conservative with his spells as on a lot of other heroes.
I would also recommend tidehunter while maxing shell, making him very hard to kill in the early/mid game and has a more forgiving playstyle while still contributing to the team. Just mind that your mates will expect you to initiate fights, so you need to learn how to gauge positioning (also an important lesson).
Most of my friends whom i introduced to the game tell me they had good experiences playing drow ranger in the beginning since most of her skills are passive and you can focus on farming and last hits. she also has a very long attack range, amking for relatively safe laning.
