Vanguard is not amazing on Razor. It's a reasonable choice when you're behind and need to finish an item right now, but in the majority of situations it gets outperformed by other items. (Mek, Janggo, Hood, naked Vit Booster + Bottle, etc.). BKB is a poor choice on Razor because you essentially nullify the usefulness of one of your own spells (Unstable Current only is useful if they actually can target you).
Razor is a hero that wants to take some of the heat FOR your team. You want your enemies to throw some of those single-target spells at you and not your teammates because you know you can survive and it will hurt the enemy when they try to kill you. You want things like Hood/Pipe that make it hard for them to kill you, but you don't outright want to make them unable to cast spells at you and throw them at your teammates instead.

As a big Dazzle fan, it saddens me that he is never seen in pro games, and I'm curious why that is. Is he a weak character, or does he just not fit in the metagame? What would he need to make him a viable pick?

My 'standard' razor build is get the vitality booster and get pipe, make heart later. Throw in a Yasha in between if i feel like i need to chase down the enemies.
Dazzle is a very situational hero just like omni, requires some special line up to work with otherwise they would be 'useless'. For some reason healer heroes are not that popular in current meta.
edit: lol just played a razor and did the exact same build https://dotabuff.com/matches/83326098 that swap to bot vs bone was genius <3

What would he need to make him a viable pick? cant say this with much confidence but dazzle isnt terribly good at anything his poison touch only really gets good from lvl 3 onwards, so ganking with him early game is difficult. the only skill that dazzle has which is good is his shallow grave, and maxing this by 7 is standard, meaning levels in poison touch will come much later if you opt for heal over ganking potential. speaking of heal, dazzles heal is very weak. short range and 150heal is honestly quite useless late game. his ulti is decent for teamfights, as bonus/minus armour is always a good thing, but you have to cast it well before a teamfight starts so you have a notable boost in armour by the time you clash, and if you cast it too early the opponents can choose to just wait the duration out. in the recent metagame, when teams well all about pushing, dazzle provides no anti push whatsoever and mediocre pushing skills with his heal and weave. until he gets lvl 4 poison touch he also isnt that great of a counter ganker. sure he could tp in and save someone, but he wont be able to do anything to kill the attacker either so thats a bummer. he has decent base dmg and int pool though, so laning wise he is actually quite good as he can trade hits quite effectively, but other than that there are heroes who are better than him in almost everything he does. shallow grave can be replaced to an extent by chens test of faith, kotls recall, force staffs etc. there are many others who heal but are more useful than dazzle such as necro and omni. as for ganking, pretty much any other lane support is better than dazzle and there are better ulties than weave out there.

Why limit yourself to just two posts?

Dazzle's like a shadow demon that can't kill anything. He has to fit into very specific lineups. And unlike aphotic shield, shallow grave doesn't dispel or remove stuns.

Does Nyx Assassin's Mana Burn do extra damage to units under the effect of ethereal blade?

Yes. All magic damage is amplified.

hey guys, very new to MOBAs but i do know basics just from watching dota 2 matches and playing a few (maybe 5) games in dota 2, and being a semi-competitive wc3 player my mechanics seem to be on point atm.
but my question is, when it comes to MOBAs (specifically dota 2), is it good to pick a few heroes and just learn item builds/strategy exclusively with those picked? and if so, should they all come from the same category (like the few I choose should be all support, or all carry, etc).
Also just as a general question, do certain heroes excel on certain lanes?

To start with, yes it's a good idea just to learn a few heroes. Eventually though you'll want to have played every hero a few times to get an idea of how they work. There's no reason to limit yourself just to one role at the beginning though.
Yes, some heroes excel in certain lanes. Some heroes that need protection are better in the safe lane, whereas heroes with good escape skills work well in the suicide/off lane. Heroes that have good mobility/pushing power and can make use of fast levels are great in mid.

oh yeah figured as much, I guess a majority of this comes with experience.
Thanks alot ^^
edit: 1 more quick question, does getting "suggested" items a good way to start? or should i just skip it and actually learn an item build?

Suggested items are quite good for most heroes when your first learning, but you will want to learn to adapt to the situation and when to buy situational items.

What's the reasoning for both aspects of Puck's "Dream Coil" being negated by Linken's Sphere? It [Linken's] seems like an unusually good item against Puck's ultimate.

Linkens sphere only negates either the initial stun/damage or the stun/damage when the hero breaks the tether.

It doesn't seem to work versus either actually. Test it in game.

That was my first response. But I looked it up and found http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/Puck
Initial stun/damage and coil break stun/damage are two separate effects. Linken's Sphere can block one.

Normally linkens doesn't pop on AoE targeted spells so that part makes sense to me, but the latter portion not procing is kinda strange.
It is something I've been meaning to test in game, but I'm currently on vacation so I don't have the means to. I was playing a Puck game against someone with a Linken's sometime ago and I swore they kept on blocking either of the effects through their Linken's.
Thank you for testing in game
