One thing I do is download replays from high MMR players and watch from their perspective. Every 15-30 seconds or after major actions I pause and think 'what would I do here', then unpause and see what they actually do. Usually what they actually do is correct, so it's a good test to see if you're on the right track. I also find that it helps me remember to actively think about what I should be doing at any given point. It's easy to get zeroed in on something unimportant when you're playing the game instead of self reflecting frequently.

I hope my question qualifies as a simple one. How does one go about finding like-minded reasonably similarly skilled people to play with?

If no such people exist, consider that the common factor in all of those games is you and as such consider improving your own attitude and comportment in solo queue. If you are looking for friends, you'll find them.

What I'm looking for is people to play with. While I enjoy talking with them about the game or whatever random stuff comes up, for various reasons I only play a few goofy games with them once in a blue moon because they aren't interested in applying themselves - their idea of fun isn't tryharding unfortunately.

You'll get a list of nice and semi-nice guys that way over time. Also you can still ask in the chats for people with a similar skill level. There's no guarantee that they'll be nice, but at least they speak the same language. TL has a tavern where you can look for ppl to play with btw.

you know there's clubs, discord, community forums full of people looking for the same thing, etc. honestly you have to build a small community yourself, or bring friends into the fold if your purpose is to find a friendly environment. otherwise, you're just looking for scrims, and practice. you could try getting vouched into an inhouse league or maybe even try to set up something yourself to get people into higher level party MMR games. i've done this earlier on, but now i'm content with solo or even unranked now to practice little mechanics things. what they're saying is sometimes you meet someone special during a match in queues who very obviously has an 'applied' mindset to the game. that is a solid way of building up a good group of friends to start playing around. i don't think that approach is wrong at all. if in life you liked most of the people in and around your life, wouldn't that be great? however, since that's not the case, the few people you do open up to who 'get' you are worth that much more. same as in gaming, except it's easier since everyone has the common interest of gaming.

This has a pretty fast cascading effect. Find two decent players and they likely have 2-3 decent friends. Netting enough people for a 5 stack.

nobody likes that guy who whines or rages hard when they don't get to play the way they want, so if that's what you're trying to avoid, that is easy, ask a few questions on their way in. it's a thinly veiled screening for both sides.

I probably haven't given enough people enough benefit of the doubt over the years - should've lowered my standards sufficiently.

look at the pro-gaming scene, consistent hopping, partially burned bridges when all pointed to good chemistry. so i agree that what you're looking for is probably very rare.

actually i think theres a new advanced option to use alt to double tap, yeah there is, i was gonna use it so alt-3 should doubletap wards on quickcast hoefully edit yeah it works perfectly just tap alt-a to switch between them during quickcast i was gonna use it for force staff but 33 feels better for that but it works for wards

Valve's hotkey updates are a constant battle for me.
