overall valve doesn't seem to ban for scripts and shady stuff (for now, they might do a bunch at once at some point), so there's little in the way of recourse

He seems to have dropped in popularity and one of the reasons I can think of is the rise of popularity of Shadow Fiend, Lina, Leshrac, Storm, and QoP, most have a good amount of nuke. I don't think you can steal Necromastery damage but the minus damage can cancel out the bonus. When do you generally pick Razor? And is it worth it to pick Razor just to win mid against heroes with no reliable nuking farm abilities like Tiny (Tiny can't actually ava-toss just to farm because of his poor mana pool even with bottle -- and even so it will open him up to ganks with no way to esacpe) and Ember?

In a side lane he has an easier time running down an enemy to steal big chunks of damage, or even get kills. The fact that the lane are much "longer" really matters for Razor. Also enemies cant just bottle crow to withstand his harass in side lanes. In pubs you could probably duo offlane him with a sup with pretty good results too. As for when to pick him. You should be more likely to pick him when: - You feel you need a strong laner because you're getting contested. He can stand well against undying lanes and similar, where other heroes will flat out lose. - You want a midgame carry. This could for example be either because you want to implement some pushing strat or because you feel you already have a hard enough carry in some other lane. But remember Razor really doesnt do very well late compared to many other carries. - You're against enemies who cant break link easily. As an example Razor is pretty bad against Storm, Qop, AM, Morphling, Weaver or similar heroes. You're unlikely to get much drained damage from any of these. Even fast melees like Slark or BS can often run away from your link. Meanwhile heroes like Gyro, SF, WK, DK, Luna, etc are much more vulnerable. Razor can run them down with link up and they pretty much neither can run from the link nor fight him back because they're losing their damage. As for Tiny or Ember: Razor should beat both of the in lane. Later in the game hes pretty good againt Tiny and pretty awful against Ember. Tiny cant run from Link, he can toss Razor away but thats still not ideal for Tiny. Eventually later in the game though when Tiny has multiple lategame items Razor will struggle too. When Tiny hits you for 400 per swing with good attack speed, youll die (or go to low to fight back) before you get a change to steal much damage. Ember however you need lock down or long range initiation to reach, which Razor has neither. A good Ember can likely run in circles around Razor and only fight in his terms. Even if Razor somehow gets close enough to get a link up (which is no easy feat to begin with), Ember can just remnant away. I certainly wouldnt want to play Razor against a good Ember.

To me it seems smarter to have him in a side lane too, in mid its too hard to steal much damage, which he depends on to out-cs his opponent. Nukers like Lina and Lesh will stand so far back Razor likely wont be able to steal anything. And while he does shit on a bunch of melee heroes and short range heroes, the close proximity of the mid towers makes it hard to steal large portions of damage anyway. And once enemies get to lvl 5 or 7 or so and level up their nukes, they might be able to CS well even with their damage stolen. Thanks for the insight! Would it then be ideal to get Razor to safelane and shut down the enemy melee offlane with the hopes of getting Razor farmed enough in the midgame to push and generally have map control?

That's a standard way to use him, yeah. One important point is that razor safelane relieves your supports of most babysitting duties. If he's in a decent matchup razor doesn't need any/much babysitting and can usually zone the offlaner on his own which allows your supports to do whatever they want on the map.

(I can't really check right now cuz the last time I played, my Macbook Pro can't decently run Dota 2 Reborn on any combinations of settings, I always end up with <20fps even on the lowest resolutions. :/)

I want to know whether I should just chill and play other games or I I should start going to bot matches to adjust. It has been that way since the Reborn client came out, so I wouldn't hedge my bets on it changing any time soon.

Does it have any effect (aside from cd reduction and mana cost) when he's 25?
