There's a bug that treats the spot where a hero last died as it's position prior to respawning, so it gets Glimpsed back to the location of it's last death.

I was bored enough to test that. A new meepo clone goes to where it spawned.

Was kind of hoping dota would crash. Oh well.

There's some strange mechanic involving Weaver's Time Walk and when you skill it as well, if I remember correctly. It returns you to the point in time where you skilled it, I think. Might be full of shit, not sure.

More seriously, have supports abandon the lane, stick a survivable hero solo there with a stick, aggro tri.

Basically turn your safe lane into your offlane. I doubt that lane is beatable in pubs. Just avoid fighting it.

id rather keep the carry there (something with mobility to not get dived) and have free space for 2 supports to jungle/roam/runes and not show on map

it was because the "timer" on time walk that tracks where you were 5 seconds ago only starts when you levelled time walk. i think this was fixed though

Wasn't the "timer" for time lapse implemented by having an invisible Weaver being located where the real one was located 5 seconds ago?

Or was that the DotA 1 implementation?

That's the dota1 implementation, which caused the aforementioned bug. I would be surprised if that behaviour had been intentionally ported.

Is there some tricks outside of good focus/attention to counter PL? Dispell + cliff hoping makes doppelganger very hard to play around. I've yet to lose with the new PL and I just had two huge comeback games on his back, played by other players.

Strong initiation is good overall. When PL gets to start right clicking and using all his spells/manta the illusion number quickly grows to the point where its very hard to find the right one. At that point you're kinda left to just hoping your heroes can deal with it. If you have a Timber, lucky you. If you have a Drow, Lifestealer, Viper or similar, prepare to die.

So the point is you dont wanna ever let it reach that point. With something like an Axe call or similar which can start the fight on the PL you can hopefully burst him down before it gets out of hand. A good PL will obviously make it hard to land an initiation on him, but if your heroes cant clear the illusions your only chance is to find him quick and kill him fast in fights before he gets to do anything.

In fact PL counters timber, it becomes very hard to get a second round of spells because of the mana drain and doppel makes it easy to dodge his first round of spell until PL can tank it.

you need to suppress the pl and crush his team early. i dont think i've lost a game where i've had freefarm and once i get my skadi/satanic, the illusions just become too much to deal with
