do you guys use the default dota_health_per_vertical_marker value? (250) i'm currently using 100 because it provides a bit more resolution and the numbers are easier, but i can easily see a case for changing it to 250 when playing axe for anyone who doesn't know, this is the setting for those healthbar dividers

Like, at HP values where 100 is useful, the divisions are wide enough that it's not really that hard to eyeball 100s when you see 250 markers, and higher than that, it gets cluttered when someone's HP bar has like 15-20 divisions.

I don't really die that much. I almost never die outside of team fights compared to the people I play with. I don't know how some guys can go 1-18 in a game but it happens frequently in the games I play... Like, 4 of them will be attacking our bot tower and a Zeus will go "come on guys let's defend this tower" and just walk over by himself and die instead of abandoning a tower that clearly can't be saved. I go into a game and everyone rushes for some kind of carry and I get banished to pos 12 support. Yeah, sometimes if I play outstandingly I can make an impact on the game by warding, carrying dust, smoke, etc and saving people in team fights with swap or whatever. But most of the time we have some guy who just wants to jungle by himself. Yesterday I had someone literally tell me to leave them alone and mind my own business. I had a guy buy a 22 minute midas. Just the dumbest shit. Just very frustrating.. trying to get better at the game but I don't really know if I am getting better because I'm 1/10 of the people on the field and my MMR isn't changing. But I got a couple of games where I was allowed to go mid Tinker and got ~9min bots and wrecked their whole team. So there's that. Sorry guys, Edit- to lessen the QQ and aska question.. do you guys usually try to get good at a specific position or just learn abunch of heroes that can fill whatever position is needed. Or are you one of those people that just goes "I AM MID" at the beginning of every game? I feel like that has some merit too, if you know your mechanics are good.... Also is there any measure you use to see how well you're playing rather than MMR. Say, I got bots at 8, 9 10 mins, etc. I can judge if I'm farming more efficiently or not.

so don't focus on what other people are doing. sometimes you can play as good as your capable of and still lose, but that's okay because it's what YOU take away from the game that matters in the grand scheme of things. not some stupid number. if you can focus on improving 1 thing (for instance: get 50 last hits and 10 denies in lane before 10 minutes) then you're getting better. it will be a while before you can actually carry a team of 4 retards to victory. ask teddy if he is able to do that when we all play together. he's playing in fucking dream league and can't carry us all sometimes. e: to answer your question though, spam a hero you want to learn. rinse and repeat. you'll turn into a god at your mmr

If 4 people are pushing bottom tower, why? What game situation has allowed for most of the enemy team to head to a single spot on the map and take a tower? Could you have applied more pressure on your lane to force the enemy to split up before taking the tower? Could you have turned that into an even trade? If you take a T1 as well and you have 4 people farming while 4 of them focus on a single tower the fact that Zeus died shouldn't be a huge deal. Did you ping out what you were going to be doing instead if it was going for an even trade? Zeus may be foolish enough to head 1v4 to a tower, but maybe if you had pinged out the T1 you were taking instead or tower you would have liked to push instead he would have made a different decision. If you want to win a lot then you need to put your allies in positions where they don't have to make hard decisions because you've already set them up for success. This is especially true because there are a lot of players that can play well from ahead, but crumble if they're playing from behind; so getting your team into a stable position is really useful in getting the most out of your allies. Honestly you can abuse out of position players on any hero, it's just a matter of what sorts of out of position things you can abuse and how you abuse them. Some, like Clock do that in a more obvious way, but there's a lot of other heroes you can do it be it by split pushing, picking off a tower, or getting the harass in to force someone back.

Also, how do I get my teammates to focus on objectives rather than kills? Often I have a Slark on my team who seems to be playing his own game of "farm the jungle for 20 minutes then go around getting kills." But in the last week I've lost several games ahead by 20+ kills because at no point did anyone ever listen and try to take objectives. We just wiped their whole team? Super! Time to farm that Skull Basher / Daedalus / whatever. Like, I try to tell them things like "hey guys, towers give you gold too" but its just not working.

This ties into the above response, but it very much depends on the hero you are playing. The easiest way to encourage your team to take objectives is also the best way to enable it: keep lanes pushed out. This is one of the reasons I like playing KotL: if my team loses a fight, as long as I managed to get myself out I can massively slow down enemy push. If my team just won a fight, the chances are good that I've got 1-2 lanes pushed out and a tower is right there for the taking. Obviously, communicating with them is good but a lot of players just don't understand that after winning a fight, if the lane is not pushed in you need everyone to go to take a tower while you have the chance (if indeed you do have that chance). I've seen many times when we could EASILY take a tower but because I had no help pushing the lane, by the time we got to it we were out of time. The kicker is when people go "oh, the lane is pushed in, I shall come attack the tower" and don't realize that now we have to back because the team is up and we're going to get eaten if we try and siege. tl;dr people are dumb; push lanes.

Some people are so obnoxious, you know they will flame and jungle till "they're ready" and thus dodge em.
