I've been playing dota for a while, but recently I found that I'm getting too stressed out. Most specifically I am too stressed to play ranked as much and just go to normal MM, I think the reasoning is I don't want to lose MMR. But I want to play, anybody have advice for coming over this stress?

This happened to me when I was playing StarCraft really regularly. I got to Masters then almost didn't want to play anymore because I was afraid of laddering / got serious anxiety whenever I queued up.
That's when I started playing Dota. I needed to just play something else for a change that I actually found fun and didn't care so much about.
Now obviously I've become a super try hard at Dota but I still see it as my 'second' game so I don't care about losing MMR.
Play to have fun, don't play for MMR. Solo queuing is really stressful because not only do you have a number that tells you exactly how you're tracking (up or down) but also you have the least control over the outcome. So it's easy to get really frustrated when you lose and it takes a lot of the enjoyment out of the game.
Queue up with friends and play team ranked. If you don't have friends you know then anytime you come across someone chill on solo just add them and see if they want to play again.
The point is you need to make it fun otherwise there is no point.

Do you still play Starcraft or have you put it on the backburner?

But I want to play, anybody have advice for coming over this stress? Just prepare something for each game. If you're stressed it's because you're worried only about the win/loss and not everything in between. We enjoy winning, but we play this particular game because we enjoy some aspect of it other than just winning. If you only want to win go play an easier game.
So remember that if you're improving your mmr will improve accordingly given enough games. If you play only thinking about mmr points you're distracted from the game itself and from overall improvement. So prepare something each game: skim through some of your replays, identify what trends you see in your play that you don't like, figure out how to fix the issue, and then go implement it in your next game. If it's hero or role specific, come up with a couple other things so you can execute some specific plan for improvement regardless of what hero or role you have to play.
Lastly, remember that even on your best hero, playing your best, with cooperative teammates of similar skill against enemies of similar skill, you can still lose. So don't let the pressure of losing effect you, only let the pressure of trying to perform better than you did the game before, day before, week before, etc, effect you.
Anything you can practice in normal you can practice in ranked also-- but there are no excuses in ranked. What's the point of practicing something with no stakes, where you can make a million excuses whether you win or lose? If you win in normal it didn't matter cuz there weren't points, and because the skill difference in each team is greater than in ranked, and because some of the other players "weren't trying". If you lose in ranked most of the excuses are gone, and what's left is how much effort you put in between games, isolating your weaknesses and working to improve them in-game.
You are going to lose mmr no matter what. You are also going to gain mmr no matter what. Whether the trend favours one direction or another is entirely in your control. So don't lock yourself up in worry, just play to get better. Because playing to improve and achieving victory because of your hard work both in-game and between games is what makes playing the game at all fun.

Getting back into it, but mostly waiting on Legacy of the Void before I get serious again.. game's about to change completely.
SC2 is so much more stressful than Dota though. When you fuck up in Dota, you're dead for a while, you have some time to think about strategy, calm down and think of what you're going to do next. When you fuck up in StarCraft you basically just lose instantly.
Honestly though, don't solo queue until you play a few games with friends just to dick around and remember that in the end it's meant to be fun. SC2 got to a point where it wasn't fun for me because I was taking it too seriously. A lot of pros have this happen to them actually.

For what it's worth if you can't reliably get back to an MMR then your MMR score is wrong anyways. There's nothing to lose by playing. If you are fine with having a score that's a lie, then just buy a boosted account and never play it.
There's literally absolutely nothing at stake when you queue for a ranked game.

What is the site called that lets you enter two lineups and compare their win rates?
I recall it also suggested that certain combinations were strong or weak together by % above or below average.

I just want to piggy back on this response, I used to be like high masters 1-2-3 in my division, used to play a lot of hours and stressed myself out.
The solution? I realized I wasn't going pro, I started playing a lot more 3v3 team games doing ridiculous builds then I would scurry on over to 1v1 maybe I win maybe I lose to some bullshit strategy and I would get angry but just let it go.
I stopped playing SC2 but now play Dota i'm an average player MMR nothing crazy and yeah I liked to play ranked just because generally the games are better and who doesn't get that small satisfaction when you win and see the points go up? Just don't emotionally invest yourself so deeply that you feel like you just had sex after winning because most likely when you lose your going to also feel that steep drop. Or you turn into the type of person who blames everyone but them self for a loss lol.

You can also focus on other goals like mastering a hero while you play ranked. Focusing on other goals will help you not care as much about your ranking while still 'working on it'.
Like for Starcraft I just focused on proving Nydus Worm is/was one of the best things in the game and it's only ignored/partially ignored because everyone sucks at non-euclidean geometry.

Both can be helpfull, although the first one assumes positions of heros so you cant judge the effectiveness of the line up when you felt creative or artistique And the 2nd one is based on i guess the majority of players so the higher mmr you have the less positive impact it could have. Still both good tools to play around with.

How do I trigger a "Go on <hero>" autochat?

What's an average decent CS as a pos.1 safelaner? I was told around at least 80 last hits. Yet, I feel like I get around at least 50 by average.

And of course if you are contested you are going to get less than perfect farm.

Over what game length? 80 last hits in a game that lasts 5 minutes is outstanding. 80 last hits in a 50 minute game is terrible.

Oh come on guys he's obviously saying 80 or 50 by 10 min mark.
80 by 10 is what you should strive for in a freefarm lane, 50-60 in a contested lane.
|
Yeah I meant how much cs in around 10 minutes.
|
Depends a lot on the hero as well. If you average 50 cs on Spectre that's very respectable given how easy it is to contest her farm while 50 cs on Jugg is meh.

Is Shadow Demon a good support for pubs? I haven't seen one in in my games in like forever and kinda want to try him out (as I enjoy playing less popular heores). Disruption sure looks tricky to use without coordination between teammates, but fun and rewarding when used correctly.
I understand you play him as a standard pos5 hard support with tranquills/wand/urn into (hopefully) aghs/sheep?

I mean, it's all up to the lane and your hero. A good Meepo can achieve around 90-120 last hits uncontested with a team that caters to his jungling needs. A Spectre dual lane that gets contested by pretty much anything that can bully won't net you a lot depending on your support (which of course begs the question of why you pick her) so be weary of picking your farmer.
I've seen people carry with 5LH/min on any given hard carry in lower brackets, but heroes like Naga/SF/AM will start out aiming for perfect lane lasthits (~8LH/min) and then escalate to a midgame ~15LH/min to a game average of ~11-14LH/min. Heroes like Bristleback and Viper with poor farm mechanics are made for farming heroes, and a Viper that starts out with ~5-6LH/min in lane will often keep that farm up due to lack of flashfarming mechanics and superior early fighting ability.
