edit: wtf is scripting? i went 18-3 on lina before we lost and this lich is raging the whole time that i'm scripting and to enjoy my reports. i know you can script invoker if you ...don't want to learn dota....but htf can you script fucking lina?
edit2: out of curiosity, how "big" is LoL compared to dota now? are the insane 400,000 viewer chinese streams like yyf and burning (or whoever) botted up or for real?
From what I know the Chinese streams show inflated viewer numbers. Not real. It isn't due to bots.
Last I checked LoL was like 11 times as big as Dota 2 in players. Don't know how that translates to stream viewers and monetary gain for the companies.

wow no way, i would have guessed dota was as big as LoL now, not that i know anything about LoL
but then again i didnt know chinese stream numbers were fraudulent ....

24-3 15-0 22-7 14-1 lina boiz Dota is way behind league. they got there first and they had much superior marketing (valve pretty much never markets)

Perfect World (Chinese publishers of DotA2), however, they do a decent bit of marketing.

Hey guys,
Playing VS as a support / ganker / initiator. I typically go for brown boots > soul ring > tranquils. Then, would you recommend going for medalion of courage or force staff first? Medalion is good in fights but FS helps me stay alive if I get ganked since by myself I'm not very good at fighting.
Thoughts? Does it depend on the other team comp?

Yeah it depends. Medallion is really good on VS because with that + wave of terror it's really easy to go Rosh.
I really don't think you need Soul Ring on VS though. That seem kind of like a waste of gold to me. Good use of a magic stick + tranquils + urn of shadows will solve most of your mana issues and with medallion or force you really shouldn't have that many mana problems.
Learn to appreciate Tranquil + Urn + Magic Stick. These are like the god-trio of items for almost all support heroes. When you get used using both Urn and Magic Stick you will start to appreciate them so much. Some of the most costeffective items in the game.

Noted, thanks. I usually get Magic Stick against people who spam abilities but sometimes I feel like without Soul Ring I don't have enough mana to stun whenever I want. Will try skipping SR to see how that works.

Any heroes that are especially good against VS? She seems like a good first pick in ranked games where nobody wants to support or pick a hero until the last second.
|
Is there a list of skills/items that don't use pseudo RNG?
Like I believe spirit bear's entangle and spirit breaker's bash don't use it but I'm guessing those aren't the only two abilities and I can't find a list anywhere.

She's not a hero that has an obvious counter pick or something.

According to Dotabuff stats, Razor, Drow, Dragon Knight, Sand King, Sniper. A bit of a drop, Bounty Hunter, Phantom Lancer, Viper.
All heroes that can either tank it or dodge a stun.

my understanding was that spirit bear's entangle was prng interesting, i always had the impression that bulldog wasn't just incredibly lucky, but that he was exploiting the prng on his bear to get the highest chance to entangle when he needed it

I'm seeing on Dotabuff tha the most purchased item for VS is... power treads?
I mean, I did that once when my team had no one to play mid (nobody picked a mid hero) so I played mid carry VS and we destroyed them (lol).
But otherwise it seems stupid?
Is there a way to filter by MMR.
|
treads are good on venge in general you don't need much mana so tread swapping is enough to fix ur mana issues, the attackspeed can be relevant since ur right-click is reasonable with ur aura, and obviously the hp is very very legit on a hero that does suicidal things all the time.
it's not an every-game type of item but it's definitely not bad.

I definitely like treads on Venge. for pretty much all the reasons sn0 mentioned. Especially since I would play Venge with Bottle most of the time after the rune patch.

Treads are fine. Tranquils are more economical in games where you're poor, and Phase is somewhat stronger early game when you don't have the luxury of rank 2/3 swap and mobility items (Blink/Force), but Treads definitely are a strong choice a bunch of the time.

You aren't supposed to be able to stun whenever you want, you're supposed to be able to stun when you have a good reason, i.e. you have a chance to kill someone or you are being gone on. mana efficiency is one of the most subtle and challenging characteristics of high-level play, even the very best players sometimes cast spells that accomplish nothing, limiting their immediate effectiveness. If you're stunning people as venge in the early game and not getting kills you are probably falling behind.

Well the games I play I am usually the only support (or the other guy never buys wards/courrier etc.) so I am usually dirt poor the whole time. I also get the "let me farm" guys in my lane like 80% of the time. So I find tranquils to be useful since I'm always going to ward and such.
But I'll try treads and see how that goes.
I also use my stun quite often as an escape if someone is right on my ass.. is that wrong? Probably something cured by better map awareness / vision but this seems to be the difficulty people have at low MMR :/ so I guess I'm okay playing a little less efficiently if it means not dying and feeding the enemy carry.

Venge is definitely more of a counter-initiator, especially once she has Swap, her kit usually guarantees you and your allies will be doing more damage than the other guys, so there's nothing wrong with playing her defensively as long as your lanes are doing alright...with that said, you should always be LOOKING for kills if not necessarily going for them, this is where your efficiency comes into play, as long as you have mana for a tp and combo your cores are very hard to gank, unless of course they're way out of position.
Oh and only buy treads if you're going to tread-swap, that's like 90% of their utility, especially on a non-core hero. And if no one on your team is going to build arcanes you should probably just do that because having just one pair of arcs goes a longgggg way, provided you use them effectively.
