I don't think I've ever gotten a visa denied, and I've had a lot of visas in my life. Yea but what kind of visa have you applied for? Do they come with a 6-million dollar stake? (not sure how much this year's champion will get)LoL is officially recognized as a sport in the US since 2 years ago, why haven't dota join the ranks? C'mon Valve. Work your magic already.

I didn't think Valve allowed that, seeing as their invitations go to five specific players instead of a brand/team. What would Navi do if Sonneiko didn't make it? There is. At TI2 KuroKy played as a stand-in for Mousesports because ComeWithMe couldn't get his visa. See note at the bottom of this page: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/dota2/The_International/2012/Rosters

Probably bring Vanskor, i'm pretty sure they'll sort it out though.

The root of the problem is that Dota is not officially recognised as a sport or even a real job, and the players are not recognised as athletes. To the visa officials Sonneiko's tourist application is that of a young man who has just graduated, has no job, no wife, no kids, no previous travel history, i.e. absolutely nothing that could indicate that he has reasons to go back to Russia. Their internal regulations state that they should deny the visa in this case. That's not specific to the U.S., any country with immigration issues acts exactly the same.

Well, they have worse problems in the health sector and nothing gets better so I don't see anything good coming given the "threat" of terrorism. Back to the team, I really hope Sonneiko gets the visa. It will be such a waste, if a young and promising player like him misses such experience. Maybe next time Valve will hold TI somewhere else, at least until Dota becomes a sport.

A friend of mine got it done to get his parents in for graduation after they kept rejecting 1 or the other over the years when they wanted to visit, to make sure they could never come together.
