Broaden your knowledge with some Html/Css. C# and Java are used for the same things. If you need to learn C# for a job that you want, you will be able to learn it quickly if you already know some other OOP language like Java.
SQL probably has the highest usefulness/effort ratio to learn for anybody whose not a programer That and python for scripting I guess

Gonna drag LeLoup's conversation from another thread into here because it probably shouldn't be happening in the IHL thread.

Its seems like most thought out plan and addresses a lot of the issues(like picks, people getting grumpy about drafts) and puts all that shit in the hands of the RNG.
And I understand why folks are disappointed that the TLIH isn't as competitive focused as it used to be. I don't think any of the more casual/less skilled players wanted to mess that up for people. Some folks just want to play some community games that are a bit lower impact. And if people wanted to have a set of competitive matches with a minimum MMR next weekend, I don't think anyone here would be upset or fell left out. While I can't speak for the others, I don't think it's the experienced players who are more interested in serious type games. We already have alternatives in the form of open tournaments, IHL's and matchmaking, and I doubt that we have enough players to arrange something like TLIHPro™. No you're pretty much correct. The people that 'want' the more serious CM games are people like me who are still trying to really understand this game at a higher level as compared to what we know now. I do wish that Valve would add weekend tournaments or something though. Would be pretty fun to just group up randomly and play in them occasionally. That would be fuckin' kickass. Play DOTA2 for hats, practice teamwork and shit with your friends.

I would be all about them and they would be fun. The only issue I can see is that people might game the whatever system is made(and they will figure out a way, they always do), but thats the nature of the beast.
But until then there is 5 stacking.
|
How can you game it if the winners get items? If you spam bots, then there will still be tons of other people getting free games.
Only problem with that style of tourney is that it would take fucking forever if there's any sizable number of players.
|
It would have to be some sort of point based system or something that didn't use brackets. I think that's the main problem with tournament based systems is that any reasonable set of games takes so long in Dota if you include the draft. Its not like street fighter 4, where the matches are so short you can play a full set in like 7-10 minutes.
Still some system where people could compete in more serious matches would be good. Or maybe just an API to let players do it themselves and have some sort of interface within the client.
|
But then that's just turning it into TMM with more hats.
|
True, but you need to overcome the main issue of competitive dota: time. The games take forever, drafting takes like 15 minutes and the matches are not over quick. A best of three could be like 3-3.5 hours. Maybe if they were bo1 it could work out or if they ran the thing over several weeks.
|
Not everyone can play every day or even every week. Really, the best thing available is some kind of league, which is actually already in the game.
Maybe some update to bring more light on TMM would be helpful.

Man, I just realized how absurd Poison Nova's manacost is. It literally takes up 3/4 of Veno's mana pool at level 11.

Can you PM me your address so I can take you as a legally mandated slave?
But seriously, Lycan is an order of magnitude stronger in organized play than in pubs. He's very strong in pubs, but it's perfectly reasonable to see him not picked. The exact opposite is true of Void and Tinker.
