it is arguably more effective than bonds because everyone stuck in the slow is fucked if its not canceled getting both doesn't really make sense because if you bonds -> slow you're already too close, and slow -> bonds is silly because everything has been used by that point

You don't even need to ult, although that helps a lot. Upheaval is really, really strong, because it provides some of the best area control* in the game, right up there with Midnight Pulse and March of the Machines. Its special quality is that even though it does no damage, it greatly limits their positioning. They can't engage the heroes they want to engage (say, Sniper or Zeus) and can't disengage from the heroes they want to disengage from (say, Lifestealer or Ursa). The build also vastly elevates Warlock's target importance in those early fights, meaning that he's suddenly going to be soaking up valuable disables instead of the higher-position heroes. If he has a high early level in Fatal Bonds, he's going to lose all relevance to the fight the second his Bonds->Ult->maybe Word is blown. He can just be ignored after that point. With Upheaval, though, they need to focus on him. Of course, his weaknesses are that your team needs to be able to do a lot with that space he generates, and that there are some pretty great ways of addressing him. Rubick, for example, can Levitate him and then toss him into the rest of his team. Earthshaker can Fissure and stun the enemy team and him. Tide fucks everything up. So on and so forth. He can be really good, though. *that doesn't outright stop enemy action like Chrono or Black Hole

This is a great read. Not because it's insightful, but because the author clearly has an axe to grind and it just permeates throughout

Make sense to skip it then if you want to stay as far back as possible. wondering how to try this in pub without getting noob warlock no bounds report plx :-/ Yeah with bond puts you in range of a lot of stuns. Its cool in lane, but I eaten it a bunch of times trying to get that thing off before dropping word in a team fight.

And anyone out to shit on something a bunch of people enjoy isn't really worth my time anyhow, I think.

Try it out with some friends, though! Part of good pub strategy is ease of coordination. Upheaval is pretty hard to coordinate, because you all need to be on the same page of engaging or disengaging or it becomes kind of bad.

He's basically saying that Dota is an action game and should be made as one. Wow...fucking incredible. Gotta love any article that takes an entire chapter to explain why he has the authority to talk on these things.

You can break every single rule in every single rule book, as long as the game is more fun to play than its competition then it is a good game.

I made it halfway through chapter 3 before I stopped again. I made it through all the "Fixed camera master race" shit that's supposedly justified by his nametag of "Michael J Lowell, game designer", but I lost it at his argument for IMMERSION being really really super important in video games, and dota 2 is bad because the camera is a free camera, so you're not watching your omniknight pinned to the center of the screen shouting PURIFY and feeling like a badass. ...Seriously, he clearly hasn't played omniknight. You can't NOT feel like a badass as that dude. Get the giant sword that burns everything around you with radiant fire, press the R button that makes you not take damage, and press the W button that makes people not cast insults and logic at you. I think he could get behind that, you just live in your own world of unstoppable, immortal oblivion.
