Theres a very good reason I should be directing my hate. I love Diamond, he's a great friend of mine, but he doesn't deserve to be in the beta for filling out false information when he says he hasnt played a game of Dota since 2006. If he fills out that he is a complete noob to the game and isn't highly skilled and gets in then that is reasonable in terms of helping out the data they want in the beta. But people are going to take away spots from people who should be getting into beta from that demographic.
Who knows, if they're distributing it evenly then odds are filling in that you're a 3/10 will give you a better chance to get in since everyone who IS bad is going to say they're fucking awesome. i really doubt they'll be inviting people cuz they picked good stats on a survey. Really. For example, someone who always plays supports is probably going to have a shitty KD:R and bad gold/level but could easily be a better player. Theres just no real way for them to choose based on it

But the survey asks for your top 5 most played heroes. Which is pretty funny if someone randoms their top 5 to be mostly supports and put down getting an average 800gpm with 15 kills per game. Actually the top 5 most played is pretty bad if you play the game at a high level and tend to play every hero and all roles non-exclusively

How do they classify people who lie (high gpm and mostly play supports) and stuff like that, where are the cutoffs, I think they'll just be looking for realistic numbers to prove you know SOMETHING about dota rather than going through each one induvidually and reality testing the numbers.

I Really doubt they will even read the stats, just something for people to fill out so they have to do something. Do people honestly think valve has the time to sit down and read 100000+ surveys?

omg I'm so hyped.. really hoping I get a key soon Long time dota fan

Interesting survey. Got it working by restarting steam, windowskey+r, paste steam://takesurvey/1/, enter.
Hope it helps if you are having problems.
|
survey will also not open if your steam client is not updated to latest version

Meh I went with a 7 cause I've been able to give some good games vs some pretty good amateurs, but apparently everyone are picking 9/10 rofl? I consider 10 to be the top pro level but w/e
Regarding the stats I just copied mine off dotalicious
|
I put down a 5, 7 kills and an average of like 4 deaths an average level of around like 15ish
|
was honest, and put like 2 kills and 4 deaths per game average... Even though i end up with 15+ assists every game >.<
i play like 100% support, so the last thing I want to do is get last hits on hero kills.
I hope this is taken in to account in the survey, and they don't just bring in people that rate themself a 10 and reckon they have an average 20-2 kd. (rated myself a 6 personally)

I'm assuming it all gets put in to a database, and they will pull people who's survey results are in line with what they need. For example if one hero isn't getting played as much as another I assume they will bring in a bunch of players who put that as their #1 played hero in dota. Or they might need someone who has a specific video card so they can test compatibility with it so they'll use the hardware survey results... etc etc etc.

...its a survey, you look at the collective data not the individual surveys
They can see what are the most played heroes and then base who they want to put into beta next on that.
Also, Im' wonder as well if you are already in beta if they'll give two keys to you, or just the new people who are going to be invited during this wave.

Confirmed on the Dota 2 official website. http://blog.dota2.com/
If anyone has extra codes they want to give out, please pass one to me.
Will be appreciated .

Well the whole point of the survey from what I gather is to place you into the correct games that fit your skill level when using matchmaking. They will probably look at the results and give beta keys to people on every skill level to make the population balanced like a normal probability distribution. That being said, they will probably put high weighting on the question where you place yourself between 1 and 10. As for the other answers like average kills and levels, you are probably right about using the answers to support the fact you know something about the game to justify you giving yourself the number between 1 and 10. To classify whether or not people are lying about their results, I guess you can compare results with some kind of benchmark for each role at a certain skill level (carry, support at skill level 6 etc.) with some kind of margin of error. Also it doesn't take as much effort as you think to analyse data with the correct techniques and software.

is there any info on when to expect the keys to start rolling out? or is it from now until whenever...?

I couldn't even answer that properly about myself, let alone imagine that theres some kind of metric. Dota is a team game, you could just have bad team mates, play support and finish every game with 8k earned and lvl 14. BUt what if you had a really good team, and you push really hard in every game, and just finish the games really fast. Honestly, if you're imagining that valve is putting some super secret formula to those survey results and picking people based on it, you're delusional.

wow are you serious, do you really belive they will invite people based on the survey instead of the computer specs, how deluded are you
they probably just want some general information about the new players, chill the fuck out

The latest blog post on http://blog.dota2.com/ says:
We’ve just finished our first significant expansion of Dota 2 server capacity around the world, and that means it’s time to kick this thing up a notch. Starting this week, we’ll be handing out Dota 2 in increasing volumes.
So with any luck, we should start to seeing the beta keys for people who signed up for it anytime now =>

nice one, thanks.
Did anyone have any odd results in the scan that was done on their pc? I only ask because mine seem to think i was using Windows XP, when i have vista on my machine. Is there any reason it would think this? It's a shame that you arn't able to change it, but then i suppose people would change bits and peices to all sorts to try and get in. It was just slightly anoying as I know some games are now stopping to support XP and i'm hoping this doesn't lower my chances because they see its on XP.

Probably use a weighted average of both support and carry at skill 7. Yes dota is a team game and yes your stats depend on the skill of your team and their team which is why you put weighting on on the scale of 1-10 and not your average stats. The average stats are there to give some form of evidence, they may not be good evidence but they are still something you can measure.
