Don't expect it any time soon. It is not something that is really needed. If it is a main focus for you I suggest you try other games. I'm gonna take Monday off for this... I have been playing dota since something like ... 2008. So yeah at some point random match making is not fun anymore in a e-sport focused game. I don't get why people say that ladder is not a main concern in this game. Do you imagine W3 or SC2 without ladder ? NO, then why DOTA2 should be different ? There is a reason why the pro player I watched in the MYM/SK era are still the same one that are competing today : it's because there is no easy way for players to start playing comp games. And I don't think things like going to a invite league full of retarded BM player who think they are all the next Yaphets or Dendi or switching to ShitLeague of retard as was suggested in an other post is a good option to start player interest in playing serious DOTA and growing the pro scene. we still have them around because they're still really good at dota and still want to play There are up and coming players in the scene too, Hell, like all of Speed gaming, Qojqva and Wayto? RTZ, there are new players coming into the scene. None of these players are new unless you count new being "started playing dota 2 near the beginning of the beta". Seriously, speed gaming? ? I'm sorry. How many players on Alliance were at TI for the first time? 3. I don't know what your criteria for new players is, but people like Aui, EE, Bulldog? All of these palyers may have played WC3 dota but they're certainly new to the competetive dota scene overall. As for the fact that they palced WC3 dota, its not that WC3 dota allowed some sort of pro growth that we need to have ladders to emulate, its that Dota is an incredibly complex game and its hard as hell to compete on the professional level without a TON of knowledge thats exactly why the KR teams are so BAD
Aui_2000 was playing competitively in like 2009. Regular SECS participant and stuff.

Same. I remember a game - pretty sure it was Nv.int against a team with aui and TidesofTime - that involved a Drow/Troll/Venge/Luna quad-lane with a Beastmaster mid because auras yo.

but thats just sorta my point.
I'm sure there's a bunch of dudes who play in SECS and shit and 4 years from now they'll be playing in TI, but I don't really know who they are yet, so when they come in and get picked up by a big team, to me they're new players to the competitive scene

That doesn't seem to be a plan for the forseeable future though, so I have no option but to use workarounds like mass smurfing.

Gotta admit, turning away from the 'fat mexican' stereotype that has been stickied to Storm bastardizes the sarcasm hidden in his lines.

Imagine Magnataur or Batrider being released today. What?
A hero with an AoE stun that ignores BKB?
A hero that bathes you in oil, lassoes you, drags you to the forest and proceeds to utterly destroy and laugh at you?
Icefrog has definitely gone too far.

Hey, you can combine this lassoing hero with this other new hero they released that pulls an ally 1400 range and the item Force Staff to drag someone like two screens away!

Looking at ember spirit's suggested items, I can't get over the fact that not 1, not 2, but THREE battlefuries are recommended on him
I must try this out

Kinda sad it interrupts Skewer, that'd be totally not overpowered either.

I must try this out Double battle fury situational build, 10/10 would cleave again.

Yeah, but in 2009 if you were trying to watch competitive Dota, there really weren't that many options. So SECS was a bigger deal in a world without MLG qualifiers, DreamLeague, D2L, BTS doing stuff every day and EMS. A lot of the teams that you used to discover in SECS you're now learning about in qualifiers to bigger tournaments. SF, SSD and Kaipi are all examples of this.

Volvo gave diretide! And two spirits. I don't see the point of all them gems but I guess it gives people who care about items something to do with them
Though all that said, still no LC....

Storm was my favorite dota 2 hero design Why did they change the handsome devil :/

Well it's also a bit different because when people were playing in like f4f or secs or whatever there was no money in the scene. So arguably the people who were already very dedicated to the game were the ones playing in those tournaments. Playing in Dota tournaments was something done by a tiny percentage of the population so even if people were just in small cups 4 years ago that's still a pretty significant sign for what level they were at during that time.

Oh man, my Sven sword is going to look so dope with these gems. Time to become a fashionista.
