I get one shot (or otherwise destroyed) by everything act 3 and beyond even with 60k HP and 583 to every resist. And rare packs in Act 2 still kill me unless I get a lucky modifier.
Builds in general dont matter because the way you progress in Inferno in Act 2 is to corpse loot chests in Act 3 and 4 with a party in large MF gear. Or do the same in the Magical Rainbow Pony Land. Which is prob a lot better.
Boon shield is also irrelevant because no matter how much you spam it its only a 15 percent shield. So your gonna die to the first thing that headshots you through shield.
EDIT: Speaking of Monks. I need an ok geared Monk for Inferno Diablo kill. I need the second monk.

anyway even if that bug gets fixed, run with 40% attack speed and some spirit regen and you should be fine too. i have been tanking all kind of shits with same strat only w/o quickinging, didnt knew it before. About the mantra of healing spam, its just the most obvious thing to do and the best imo, all other spells doesnt give you enough avoidance and also keep enough + healing for whenever you dont dodge a strike. I run some test on it, to see how it fell. The major problem I see with it is the initial cost of Sweeping Wind. Sometime if I start a pack with not enough spirit to use it, I have huge trouble getting enough spirit do it and start spamming the Boon shield thing before dying. :<
in these cases just use your serenity ..? normally with a non elite pack it shouldnt be a problem to engage w/o sweeping wind, if you have a blue or other elite pakc just attack some random mob nearby to get the spirit. also use w/e that jump is called its awsome to get away incase things get messy.
@mendreea which resistance you decided to get to 583 and why? (getting in range for infernoo soon lvl wise) fire/frost/physical ?

Poison since its budget per point seems to be lower than everything else.
I still need a second monk for Last boss of inferno difficulty. No takers really?

kind of disappointed with the variety of builds for this class. all i do is literally right click put up sweeping winds and almost everything is passive. playing any sort of aggressive style doesn't even seem to work since you just get instagibbed.

Thats how I ended up playing as well, turn couple passive offensive skills on and spam aura. I should probably bind mantra to RMB.
Although I don't actually mind it too much, pretty relaxing way to play. Definitely making a Wizard next though so I can experience more panic moments.
Also a question, do Monk heals scale with anything else than levels, or should I assume they become useless at Inferno once you're health starts going up?

Conventionally speaking, every class is useless in Inferno after Act 1 until Blizzard fixes it.
I can kill bosses in Act 4 Inferno, but some modifiers in Act 1 are really hard or impossible.
|
That FoT-Quickening + Sweeping Wind bug is the only reason I'm killing a lot of these elites and champs in Act 1 inferno. Thanks to the near infinite supply of spirit, spamming MoH-BoP with Transcendence allows me to ignore plague and molten.
|
Inferno Act 1 still allows for a lot of flexibility. I can straight-tank almost every single elite pack without using Quickening/MoH/Sweeping. Act 2 is where it starts to get rough and Act 3 is ridiculous with the scaling. In order to actually straight-tank Act 3/4, I think you need something in the range of 950 resist all, which might be impossible to reach without a barb's War Cry/Impunity.

Been wondering about something a for awhile.. Shield or Dual wield for survivability?
DW: 15% more dodge with that passive, much more damage. Shield: More armor, chance to block damage, frees up another passive slot
I've been using DW ever since I got access to that 15% dodge passive, but I'm curious if someone has found sword'n'board better. I haven't experimented much myself.

im rockin the shield and weapon, coz i find that in inferno you really just die TOO EASILY, so im doing everything i can to prevent that from happening, while maintaining some decent dps. currently at 1300 dex 1300 vit, around 11k damage (with heaven light buff) and 5.3k armor ( i use the 100% dex/armour buff but im considering changing this) anywho, it seems both monks and barb are fucked in inferno coz just cant handle the dmg

This is what I was wondering about.
15% dodge is a ton, and I'm not convinced some extra armor/block chance is worth giving it up for. And then there's the drop in DPS from only using one weapon.
42 HC monk in NM act 2, I might add.

I heard shields are periodical (in Hell), you use it until you have good offhand weapon because dual wield will be always superior in most cases.
hi btw

tbh shield isnt gonna do much if you get oneshot by something so if shield doenst help with that stick with dw imo. Only if shield makes you stay alife where you would otherwise have died. The times you die of melee attacks, most of the time you would have with either dw or shield because dmg is just to high to soak up. With the dw you have more spirit to spend, more dmg and if you like some extra dodge i see this all help more vs all non-instagib dmg. also stats on weapons seem better.
|
Depends on RNG tbh. Both shields and DW can get gibbed very quickly by unlucky strings of hits on inferno, and smart CD usage is what keeps you alive. Currently on act 1 inferno and for me (1h+shield), I have to rotate cooldowns for most mobs in order to not die(not using the BoH spam thing). I'd say I'm not terribly geared for somebody going into Act1 inferno, but it definitely hurts, especially when not abusing stuff that's probably going to get fixed.
34k health, 6.4k damage and 4k armor.
